Unfortunately we need assistance in the laundry department. If you are interested in washing blankets for the shelter please call Katie at 806-736-1477. Another option would be to donate a washer and dryer to our shelter. It’s amazing what a blanket does to a scared soul coming in and we change out their bedding everyday so that comes with a lot of laundry 🧺.

Education time 📚
I love how people look out for our four legged community. I receive MANY texts/Facebook messages to my personal phone. I like to be advised , but there is a special protocol.
1. Any/ALL animal control complaints, emergency’s, etc. MUST be called into dispatch. There phone number is 806-659-4140
2. I am legally not allowed to go onto someone’s property without their authorization just because someone has informed me of possible cruelty etc. So it is vital if you make a complaint that you also be willing to provide a voluntary statement just Incase I am not allowed by owners to proceed on to their property.
3. If you need to get a hold of me regarding animal control or code enforcement my work cell phone number is +1 (806) 330-1864

This being said I want to thank the people who do notify me this is not to make you feel bad, but to effectively do my job correctly and help these innocent animals the fastest way possible. Thank you Spearman for your support.

Update this dog has been reunited with its owner (it was recently rescued and had been shaven) it is being nursed back to health. Thank you to all who helped.

This dog was reported to AC today. Unfortunately it is out of city limits (by the S curve) but we thought we would share in hopes that there is someone out there looking for their lost dog.

06/15/2022

As we mourn the victims in Uvalde, a national conversation is underway about how to prevent similar events. In addition to the actions under consideration, there is a behavior that violent criminals frequently exhibit before they commit extreme acts against people: animal cruelty. If we report acts of animal cruelty and enforce animal cruelty laws, we could potentially identify those likely to commit even more violent and extreme crimes.
The Uvalde shooter committed several acts of animal cruelty before he savagely gunned down 21 innocent lives. How do we know this? Because in the months leading up to the mass shooting, he publicly posted live videos of his torture of kittens and cats on multiple social media outlets and boasted that he and his friends tortured animals "all the time."
But nobody reported it. In fact, people rarely report acts of animal cruelty, and they only become known after mass shootings or other violent crimes. In many cases, that's because people aren't aware of animal cruelty laws, or where or how to report these heinous acts.
Texas has effective animal cruelty laws. In fact, THLN led a successful effort to strengthen our state's animal cruelty law in 2017. But a law can't be effective if animal cruelty seen online isn't reported in real life.
To date, Texans and law enforcement don’t always associate acts of cruelty against animals with acts of cruelty against people – yet both data and experience support the link between the two. We need to change that.
The warning signs these troubled individuals send to schoolmates, family members, and others in their social networks continue to go unreported. Incredibly, these gunmen have no problem incriminating themselves by broadcasting their felonious acts of cruelty against animals on their social media accounts.
What can THLN do right now? We can educate. When law enforcement officials graduate from their respective academies in Texas, they have zero animal cruelty training. The Texas Humane Network, our c3 sister organization, is continuing our FREE animal cruelty training for Texas law enforcement, district and county attorneys, and ACOs for continuing education credits throughout this state. Today, we are hosting such a training in Williamson County.
What can you do? Raise the awareness of this link so that every Texan takes animal cruelty seriously. Like those who broadcast their cruelty on social media, we need to broadcast to everyone that when you torture and abuse an animal, you are committing a felony under Texas law – and we need to report those individuals and ensure that law enforcement follows through.
What can people working in our legal or animal welfare systems do? If you are a judge, government attorney, law enforcement official, or shelter professional and would like to host Texas Humane Network’s animal cruelty training, please contact me at [email protected].
