ALDO! 🐾

Meet our handsome young German Shepherd mix, a sweet and playful pup who’s just under a year old and weighs around 50 lbs. Despite his rough start—he was sadly dumped and left to fend for himself—this incredible dog has kept his gentle and innocent demeanor.

He’s a fast learner and keeps his kennel and space spotless, showing he’s well on his way to being a perfect companion. While he’s got the basics down, he’ll thrive with a family who can provide the training and authority he needs to grow into a well-mannered adult.

He’s full of energy and would love an active family to join him in all kinds of adventures. He gets along well with other dogs and would do best with respectful children who understand the needs of a young dog. If you’re looking for a loyal friend to share your life with, this sweet boy is ready to find his forever home!

🐾 SHELDON TIMELINE 🐾

I know people are asking and wondering “when?” ❓

When will we ‘open’ and when we will start accepting clients?

Here is what I know as of now -

In 8 days the building is officially Missy’s Grooming ✂️

After this there will be a remodel/revamp happening that can take a couple weeks.

ALL new equipment has to be brought in & set up (this will be done around my current Spencer schedule)

Once everything is set in place, a state inspection has to happen. This will be the major thing holding us up if they do not set a date to inspect the facility in a timely manner, but I know they are doing things as quickly as they possibly can. Everybody is just busy everywhere & that’s A - okay!

After the inspection has been set we will know a better “opening” of the books to get your pup on our schedule! 🛁

Trust me, we are excited too! We will let the world know when we know more 🤩

Happy Saturday! ☀️

We are absolutely LOVING this cooler weather & are so ready for it to stay.

I’ve been thinking lately about small businesses especially after our flood in town. I don’t think people truly get the grit and determination it takes unless you run a small business, have tried, or you work hand in hand with one.

When you are running a small business in a small community, some people like to put you in a box of ‘small’. They are inconvenienced if you start to grow. They are inconvenienced if you no longer can have the flexibility that you used to have. I think some people want the businesses to stay ‘small’ because it benefits them. But I hope that when you see a small business trying to grow, wanting to grow, and actually doing so, that we cheer them on. That we continue to support them.

It kind of reminds me of this chihuahua, people think they are ‘small’ but if you’ve ever met one without any guards up, they have more personalities than a lot of big dogs I see.

I am forever grateful for the people who have supported me throughout the last 6.5 years and continue to do so, as there has been a LOT of change and growth. You can’t grow unless you make changes, learn to pivot, and take opportunities when they arise.

Anyhoo, I felt I needed to share that it’s okay to support small businesses as they pivot & grow just as you did when they were small.

Good morning ! Happy Friday! ☁️

Just some food for thought here 💭

When you go into a boarding facility, you should expect to hear barking 🐶

If you go into a Christian store, I would fall over if you went up to the owner and asked “how do you listen to this music all day?”

If you go into a sports bar, I would fall over if you went up to the owner and asked “how do you listen to people yelling and cheering on teams all day?”

If you go into a daycare, I would fall over if you went up to the owner and asked “how do you listen to these kids all day?”

It’s no different. If you hear barking, that means that we have clients, we have dogs in our care. I would be {worried} if it were silent.

I get this question probably every. other. day.

(how do you listen to this?)

What my response is “you get used to it”

But I’m tired of that.
The truth is..

Well ma’am or sir, that noise is putting food on the table for my family, that noise is paying our mortgage, that noise is allowing me to buy the next size clothing for my son, that noise allows me to take time off, that noise allows me to be a good wife, mom, friend, daughter, etc.

I pray we can all be a little bit more respectful and understanding for every situation. 💫

H☀️PPY M☀️NDAY !!

I’m not sure where the last almost 10 days have been since I last posted on here, to say the last 3+ weeks have {FLOWN} by is an understatement.

Personally, these last couple weeks have taught me that things can turn upside down in a matter of seconds & I am trying to LIVE & spend time with my family when I’m not working. I recently put an end date onto my photography business so that I can dedicate more time to this business as well as my own life.

Business side of things, a dog boarding and grooming outside of town has closed, and starting this fall a groomer in town is cutting way back due to losing an employee. This leaves a lot of people wanting in with us, which I am GRATEFUL for, but unfortunately it means that our time is now more valuable than ever when it comes to work. If you don’t respect what we do or our time, we will not be afraid to ask you to find elsewhere.

People think what we do is a joke, but to us it’s very important work. We wouldn’t be breaking our bodies left & right if we didn’t believe so.

Here is your reminder to be kind, get your dogs on a schedule & be respectful to everybody you encounter. We’ve all been through a lot, we get it! 💓

This last week was a sign that I am doing the right thing putting my all into this business.

Believe me when I say it is {draining} some days.

& this was before the stress of overflow dogs from the flood needing a safe, dry & cool place to rest their heads.

You truly have to have the right heart to work with dogs day in & out. It is not for everybody & that’s okay because it’s for me & I am blessed to have jumped on this journey when I did. I am so grateful for the tremendous support from the communities, friends & family. I am so thankful for the friendships that this business has blessed me with.

Happy Thursday! {I think}

The days are kind of getting jumbled all together, but we are hanging in there!

I need to send some THANK YOUS out 💓

To Megan LeAnn Hegwer to coming out last Saturday & being brave riding in a boat & letting the animals out. Without somebody knowing the clinic I’m afraid it would have been too late.

To Morgan Prantner for being my built in therapist & letting me vent when I was so angry & sad & overwhelmed. For always coming prepared with a bed to sleep on, snacks & sunscreen. I appreciate you so very much.

To Selena & Ramsey for always being there no matter the time of day or night. These two will never go without lending a hand.

To my husband from getting water out of my shop last Friday night, keeping me from doing dangerous things, and always willing to lend a hand with my wild adventures that come my way. After long hours of helping days after days, a hug from him makes life feel okay.

To our parents for taking our 2 year old during all of the chaos. Without help, we wouldn’t have been able to be where we are when we were. Being a mom is something I am proud of, but unfortunately this last week it wasn’t my priority & that’s okay. He was safe and that was all that mattered in the moment.

To all of the people who have checked in, sent donations, sent $ to help keep things running, a thank you doesn’t feel like it’s enough, but we appreciate you.

We will be continuing our boarding hours 8-9am and 4-5pm throughout today & tomorrow.
Saturday hours are 8-9am
Sunday hours are 4-5pm

We will (as of now) begin grooming Monday July 1.

Thank you everybody for the grace during this.

TUESDAY UPDATE :

All of the animals that were in my care from the clinics have been reunited with their parents or at least friends which is HUGE. They underwent a lot of stress as I’m sure you can imagine so it’s heartwarming knowing they are with people they know. ❤️

I still can take a couple dogs in need ‼️
(I am unfortunately not a shelter & you cannot surrender dogs to me. There’s steps that have to be taken before the dog comes to me for that)

If your dog needs medication or has an emergency please call the HARTLEY animal medical center if you vet with AMC. If you vet with Homestead their emergency number is through Dickinson County Vet Clinic! 📞

We do not know what our new normal is, but we do not feel comfortable GROOMING dogs when people don’t have beds to sleep in, clean water to shower with, or without our vet clinics right down the road functioning.

We will be in contact with all of our grooming clients eventually to find a new date, I promise. There’s just… a lot of you 🤣❤️❤️ we were in the trenches of busy season so 25+ people per day have to be contacted to reschedule.

Please be aware our system AUTOMATICALLY sends you reminders. We have not had time to be able to go through & cancel via online.

The words I have for the last 2 days & for the days to come are hard to put together..

But overall I am {grateful}

grateful for all the help, the support, the kind words, grateful to have such a passion that doesn’t allow me to give up or move on.

seeing a clinic with dogs inside going underwater & having to watch it from the sidelines for hours. watching water continue to rise as I had to wait for a boat willing to go towards the animals was hard. the tears of joys that came out when I saw them coming out that door alive is something I will never forget.

I am grateful for the extra set of hands from 2 veterinarians from the clinic the last couple days helping care for these dogs.

I am grateful for the people who have checked in multiple times & whom have brought the dogs & cats food, litter, etc.

I am grateful I have a home & my family is all safe.

I am grateful I was capable of helping when & where I could.

But with being grateful for all the things, I feel [guilty]

I cannot shake the feeling of guilt.

We feel guilty when we are done helping because maybe we could have done more, kept going, etc. I feel guilty because I feel like I’m in the wrong town at the wrong time that needs the help. my town is flooding & I have to watch from sidelines as there’s no way into that town.

I am grateful I had a roof over my head lastnight as I stayed at the shop, but I feel guilty because my business is still running & many many are not.

My heart hurts so so much, but I am grateful.

We will get through this!

Thank you to everyone & for all the rescuers of people & their pets. Prayers will continue to come from the south side of Spencer to all those affected.

Today was not how I expected it to go ..

Letting out dogs this morning turned into rescuing animals out of the vet clinics, and helping people and their pets to safe dry places for 8 hours.

I’m not looking for a round of applause, I’m looking for some GRACE during this time as we navigate getting the dogs to the right owners and working with the vet clinics.

All dogs from Animal Medical Centers in Spencer are currently in my care. Please be PATIENT with us as a lot of my time will be taken up by simply caring for the animals.

Today there were a lot of tears shed, both good & bad, but I am grateful to have gotten the opportunity to help out the Spencer community & will continue to do so the best I can with anything.

Please say a prayer for the Spencer Community & all of the people whom lost their homes, pets, or family members.

PSA! The people that are selling Aussie puppies in the parking lot at the Spencer Bomgaars are currently under investigation by the USDA. They are an unlicensed backyard breeder with several complaints.

We would never encourage buying a puppy from a parking lot and always check someone’s credentials/license, ask to meet parents, ask for vet records and make sure there is a return policy if something doesn’t work out.

Buying puppies or kitties from a parking lot (or livestock sale, flea market or pet store) might seem like you are helping or saving that baby but in reality it only reinforces the humans to continue their breeding and selling. The only way to stop the cycle is to not participate. The supply and demand circle has to stop in order for the issue to get better.
