Emily (Great Dane) has been staying with us for 4 years now and not only is she enormously in size but she also has big energy. What I mean by energy is similar to an aura. Dogs read energy so well and often it's hard to find her playmates because of her big energy. She just exudes it so when she walks in to the kennels the other dogs feel it. That can be very intimidating! But Aggie the sheepdog/poodle mix is all in! She's been coming to us since she was a pup and she's still an adolescent, confident, playful and was ready and willing to play with big Em. It was nice to see a big dog Emily could have fun with. We love to find matches for all types of dogs and sizes!

The magic of a stable and playful dog is on full display here. Freya (Brittany Spaniel) has great energy. She's confident, stable and loves to play. More than that she can instigate play. Many dogs follow others and some can start it. Maggie (shepherd) is a follower and for 3 days she's been fairly shut down. When in the play yard she would immediately start drooling, her body language said she was unsure and nervous, but she would smell Freya every time she'd pass by her kennel and give a slow tail wag. Maggie told me that she was interested, so we gave it a shot, and voila, a friend! Freya knew what to do to get Maggie going. Lots of play bows and silliness and Maggie couldn't help but join in. Let's of positive chatter for Maggie to keep her playing.
It's great to see a nervous dog release stress and let go to just have fun, and get great exercise! And Freya was having a ball too.

This is my sensitive group. All 3 of these dogs need only positive reinforcement which is why I'm talking in a high pitched and happy tone. Tina is a rescue dog and gets very stressed here if we have thunderstorms or fireworks. During this day we had both!She gets what's called the gulpies. Luckily she was only minorly stressed And did not have any issues.. Her rescue sister Stella relies on Tina and is very sensitive herself. When Tina is feeling unsure Stella is feeling unsure. But Blake the golden retriever has the skill set to know what each one needs. He rolls over for Stella and he playbows and bounces for Tina. He himself is 1 of 2 brothers but he is the sensitive one is Almost overly affectionate at times. He's a great guy and I appreciate how he is so in tune with other dogs. It's been fun seeing them play together.. Even when Tina is nervous snervous she really enjoys playing with Blake.

Companions Brandy and Baylor are a funny pair. Brandy is a very dominant and confident gal and Baylor is a very sensitive and gentle guy. They rarely play while here but this time Brandy was feeling it. Kind of awkward play but play all the same 😆

It may look rough but these companions truly love each other. Fritz and Lou Lou were both adopted and come here often. Other than Fritz's booming bark at anything (ah hounds!) They are great dogs! And Lou Lou just completed one of our dog training classes. She did amazing!

Denali is a 1 year old unruly Great Dane. His family is working on it but he is prone to tantrums and because he's so big he gets his way all the time. He's like that with dogs too, until he met Emily! This girl has stayed with us many times and not only is she very large but her energy is enormous. I don't mean physical energy but her aura, her being just exudes confidence and many dogs are scared of her just because of that. Remember that dogs are all the same species so it's not always the big dog that's in charge. In this case it is. Watching Denali, you can see it in his ear position, his backward movement, that Emily is in charge. She controlled their play and it was play even though he was uncomfortable. He learned a lot in the few hours with her, so much more than I could teach him. Emily is a great girl and did a great job helping us out. #greatdane
