Henry completed puppy bootcamp. He was a little spitfire with all the energy I wished I had.

If you have a puppy get them started off on the right 🐾 by signing them up for our puppy package. 4 visits 1 week apart. Visit 1,2,3 are all table time - getting them used to standing on the table, the clippers, blow dryers, Visit 4 is a full service grooming. The earlier you start them the better.

Meet Tucker. Tucker has been coming to K9 Designs since 2018. I (Beth) has been the only one to ever do him. Tucker does not have a mean bone in his body!!!!!! This is a case of he is used to me, I am his groomer and Hope is not. Dogs get so used to routine and the same people in THEIR routine it's hard for some to accept change.
That's why we feel it is very important to not jump from groomer to groomer. That is hard on them. And a new dog coming to us will take longer for a couple of times because we are getting to know each other. Allow us to build that relationship.

Let's talk FLEAS...the dreaded 5 letter word.
Nobody likes to hear their pet has fleas, but fleas do happen. If we see fleas or signs of fleas on your pet there is an extra charge of $45 for shop treatment and a special citrus shampoo.
We DO HIGHLY RECOMMEND all pets are on a flea prevention that your veterinarians recommends. If pets continue to come in infested with fleas, per our discretion said pets may get sent home not completed with an additional charge of up to $65, that is a $145 total charge.
I don't like having to penalize for fleas and 98% of the time it's only the $45 extra, but when a constant infestation occurs we have to protect all the dogs in the shop at that time.
Even though a prevention is used that does not guarantee fleas will not get on your pet.
We hear so often " oh, they don't have fleas we use such and such". Then we get the gasps when we inform owners about the fleas.
Coming into fall fleas will be more prominent so make sure you are using the prevention as recommended by your veterinarian.

Coco- was new to us today. She came all the way from Algona and she was the best girl!
Mia- got a little color on her mo-hawk for the first time. We used chalk because it's a lot less permanent and will wash right out. We think it looks good.

Let's talk about licensing!!
All commercial kennels (boarding and grooming) facilities operating in the state of Iowa MUST be licensed. We get inspected yearly to make sure we are following all Iowa codes and regulations. Failure to be licensed can be up to $1000 fine, and can be fined for every day you are operating without a license. K9 Designs follows all state regulations and have NEVER gotten a "non compliant" in the 11 years of being open. In fact I have been grooming for 35 years and have never gotten a non compliance. I am extremely picky about our disease prevention protocalls and biosecurity. If anyone asks if we are lisenced I have no problem showing them my verification.
Please make sure that the groomer/boarding facility you choose to use are licensed. If they are not they could be jeopardizing the safety of your pets.
If you are unsure if your facilty is licensed you can got to the Iowa Department of Agricultural and Land Stewardship website click on licensed business directories, under animals and livestock click on licensed companion animal facilities, then
enter in the information, then click on filter.
Or just enter in the county then filter.
Please make sure your animal provider is licensed. If they are not what are they hiding.

Due to time, circumstances and gut feelings, Hope will be staying at K9 Designs... Even though her long term goals is to at some point own her own business, it's just not in the cards right now.
So, with that said.....

11 years ago today K9 Designs became reality. All of my great customers, 4 legged and 2 legged have made it the success it is today. Thank you everyone who have entrusted us with your precious pets over the years. There have been ups and downs, and challenges, but that's what builds strength and character.

WE GOT OUR GAS TURNED ON!! So that means we will resume grooming dogs on Monday. If you have appointments this week they will go on as normal. Not knowing what everyone's situation is with flood damage and cleanup if you can't make your appointment please let us know.
If you had appointments last week we will be in touchb to get those rescheduled.

WELL....was I wrong on thinking we would be up and running fully. Gas is still shut off in this section of town, so we don't have any hot water to bathe dogs with. (I will not bath with ice cold water) once the gas gets turned on I will be in touch with everyone to try and find a reschedule day. Please be patient with us as we navigate through unknown time frames.

K9 Designs will be closed until further notice. Spencer still doesn't have a sewer system up and running yet, so until that gets back up and working we cannot function. We will try to get everyone contacted as soon as we can with reschedule dates.
Please keep in mind that this is the busy time for groomers and we are booked out for weeks. We will do our best to get you rescheduled.

K9 Desigsn is not damaged and is dry. We won't be up and running for a few days though. We will be closed through Tuesday for sure to allow the city to get power, water and sewer up and going again. If those things are not up and running by Tuesday then we will go day by day until we have those things restored. Keep an eye on this page for further updates.

Neither Hope or I can get to the shop. We don't even know the status of it. So, we will be closed for sure Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Hopefully by then someone can get to that area and assess the situation.
