Stay & Trains at Priority Canine Training
Our Stay and Train Program looks a little different than most!
The PLACE Command
We use this command almost everyday with our personal dogs!
Introducing our latest Introductory Stay and Train program graduates, showcasing their newly acquired skills!
Play Group Interactions
It’s always fun watching dogs interact with one another and seeing their breed characteristics play out in those interactions. This definitely brings me back to the old days when I ran play groups!
Ignoring strangers in public is often overlooked during puppy socialization. While it is important to socialize your puppy with people, they also need to know that you are the most important person in their environment.
Duke has one more week of practice before he is officially an off-leash dog. So far, he is doing well and loving his freedom!
Refresher Training
Looking for more than just boarding? We offer Refresher Training during your canine’s boarding days to ensure their obedience stays fresh! This service is available until 3/27 and costs $80/night. Just look at Ranger…he loves the extra attention and mental stimulation!
Our New Adventure!
***BIG ANNOUNCEMENT***
Off Leash Recall
This. Right. Here. This is why we offer a 5 week program so that clients can have a reliable off-leash recall with their canines! A reliable recall makes life more fun for the people and the dogs!
“I always feel like somebody's watching me ”. 🤪
Naughty Boy Turned Good Boy
Everyone meet Stark! Today was his 6th lesson and he did AMAZING! Turns out he had a bit of a busy weekend as his mom was hosting some friends over. For Stark, it was the perfect time to really act up and be naughty! He ended up escaping the house and had all the guests and his owner trying to round him up on their street. What was surely a blast for him was not so fun for his mom. So…what did we work on today??? Off leash recall of course! Now Stark’s mom can quickly and easily communicate with Stark from a distance whilst he’s living the naughty boy life (a.k.a eluding capture by the humans).
Off Leash Recall
Prior to training, Winston would have completely ignored commands and continued frolicking in the field. Thankfully, his parents signed him up for our Mastery Stay and Train program which means this guy listens off leash now!
We have two spots available in July so contact us ASAP if you are looking for a Stay and Train! We require a 50% deposit to hold a spot and space is limited as we only take 6 Stay and Trains at a time!
In-Home Follow-Up Lessons
Night Time Routine
I receive questions all the time about what our day looks like at my training facility. So, I figured I’d film our night time routine so clients can see what it looks like.
Believe it or not, some places close up shop at the end of business hours and the dogs have to hold it until the next morning. Not here at Priority Canine Training! We take a lot of pride in the level of care we provide our client’s dogs. Late night potty breaks and having someone on site overnight is a guarantee at my business!
Here is a video that walks everyone through our nightly routine with the dogs!
Group Recall: Off-leash and Under Control
Four dogs off leash can be a lot to handle for 1 person which is why it’s important that I have FULL CONTROL of each dog.
Now as amazing as these dogs are, they aren’t robots. They will make mistakes from time to time which is perfectly normal. Don’t ever buy into the “my trained dogs never make a mistake” B.S. In the event that one of them blows me off, I can quickly correct and redirect them thanks to their e-collars! Then we all get to go back to what we were doing...having a blast off-leash!
Supervised Socials 🐾
What sets us apart from other training facilities? This. Right. Here. We offer supervised socials for all of the dogs in our training program and our graduates who have come back for Refresher Training. Why is this important? It allows us to fulfill each dogs’ physical activity requirements for the day. It also allows the dogs to learn appropriate social behavior. And last but not least, it allows us to continue to proof dogs on their obedience while surrounded by distractions. I don’t know about y’all, but we think these dogs look pretty happy about their supervised social!
E-collar Corrections trip
Tyke can now enjoy the freedom of being off-leash thanks to his new e-collar and training! In this video you can see Tyke get a correction for not listening...[Insert dramatic gasp] 😱. What happens after that correction is important...he listens!
Why do I have to correct him though??? He was having so much fun frolicking in the field and that correction ruined it!!! The simple answer: consistency. If I didn’t correct him, how is Tyke supposed to know when he has to listen and when he doesn’t. How unfair of a standard would that be? To leave a dog guessing what he or she is expected to do because they get differing feedback with every behavior.
Dogs crave structure and leadership. They want to understand their environment and their limits so we have to be willing to teach them. This means using both positive and negative feedback to set those standards and shape the behaviors we are looking for. And that right there is the beauty of balanced training and why it works for every dog!
Prior to training, Tyke would run off and his owners would have to chase after him to get him back. Thankfully those days are long gone now because Tyke’s owners have an efficient way of communicating with him.
Sadly for us Tyke goes home tomorrow. But, we are excited for him because Tyke will serve as another ambassador for his breed and balanced training in our community!
