We had calls for 3 more owner surrender dogs today…of which we had no space to say yes to. Took in a tiny baby kitten that was all alone and screaming and covered in fleas. And took in a 9 week old kitten from 3 counties away because it’s a medical needs case and we don’t turn those away. She’s missing an eye already at her young age and the other one doesn’t look good but we will certainly try to save it so she can see. She’s a sweet lil thing.

And by the way….even the big shelters are buried. Sioux Falls Humane Society just closed their doors to intake as well. It’s not just us little guys that are feeling the pain!

Please, please, please….. stop making more. Take care of the ones you already have and spay and neuter everyone! No your cat or dog isn’t so special it needs to have a litter!! And if your kids want to see the miracle of birth you can foster! But in the same instance teach them how when animals aren’t taken care of they don’t just go away peacefully! Some suffer horribly before they pass away.

Now we know you our friends and supporters probably aren’t the ones that need to hear this so please share! Maybe your friend, relative, neighbor or co-worker is the one that needs this message. Help us by educating others.

Reminder that we will be hosting “Yappy Hour” at the Spencer Municipal Golf Course clubhouse this Friday, July 19th from 5:30-7:30. We will have street tacos, street corn cups, chips & dip, and a dessert! Cost is a free will donation to help the dogs and cats at the shelter. Please come out to support us, enjoy some live music from Jill Barr, and to get a good meal! 😉🌮

Flood Pet Care Update:

We are continuing to take in dogs & cats. We have been able to send some home & that makes our hearts happy to see the reunions. If you need somewhere safe for your dog or cat to stay please reach out.

Pictured below is our training/indoor play area. Never did I think we would have rooms of dogs boarding in there. However, I am so glad we have been able to set up extra rooms to help take in more dogs temporarily. I hope to never need to set these rooms up ever again. One major disaster is enough for a lifetime.

Please check with the local shelters first but if you have an extra blanket or two lying around. We would greatly appreciate it. With the all the extra dogs we have a shortage especially when we need to throw some in the wash with the rain & muddy paws.

If you need boarding for trips. Yes, we are still doing regular boarding as well.
