These side-hustles are hard! You may notice in the events below that we're supposed to be in Somersworth at the Crafters and Vendors fair with some of our animals and merchandise. Not because it'll make us rich but because we truly enjoy seeing people interact with our unique and gentle animals.
A lot of time yesterday was spent getting ready for the fair. Trailer cleaned, merchandise packed, hay stowed, and plenty of grain on board for the kids to feed to feed to the animals.
Oh-dark-thirty this morning and Les is haltering animals and feeding the rest of the herd. Animals are loaded and we make the two-plus hour drive across the state. Looking forward to what the day will bring but also anxious that we'll arrive too late to set up appropriately.
The GPS lady announces that we've arrived at our destination. The sign on the building says this is the place. But the building is dark, the parking lot is EMPTY and the doors are locked. What the.....?
A mad scramble on cell phones through websites, social media, and email. Did I get the date wrong? Wrong town? No, everything says this is where and when we're supposed to be here.
We wait, alone in the deserted parking lot of some mega church. No one shows.
Headed home, Les finally gets through to the event organizer. "Oh, I cancelled that by email either yesterday or the day before." she said.
Lots of time wasted. Animals stressed with a five hour round trip. Good will lost.
At home, I scour every folder of every email account that the organizer's cancellation notice could have landed in. Nothing.
I understand that emails could easily be misaddressed. But the organizer of this event had two phone numbers she could have reached me on. A simple, sixty second call yesterday to say "hey Mike don't pack up" could have saved a lot of frustration, stress and annoyance.
I realize that telephonic conversations have become passe'. Apparently courtesy, graciousness, and respect have too.
So, to any of our friends who might have made the trip to Somersworth to see us and the animals, I certainly apologize. I will make it up to you somehow.
