I have a number of appointments open this week due to cancelations. If anyone new would like to get a quick appointment without the wait, or any existing customers would like to skip the line, please let me know asap.

I can manage dogs and cats of any size and condition and I'm comfortable with dogs who have behavioral challenges and or have been excused from other salons.

I am also certified in rabbits and small animals so I'm more than happy to accommodate rabbits or ferrets for full grooms, and I can do nail trims and tidy ups for guinea pigs, and nail trims for hedge hogs, rats, hamsters, and chinchillas.

Katie here!

I'm popping in to give you all the bittersweet news that I only have a few spaces left in my 2024 calendar for new clients.

This is your official warning that if you want your pets to keep seeing me, you need to be on a recurrent schedule or I may lose the ability to fit your pets into my schedule.

For the time being, Zevi (Pronounced ze-vy) still has room in his schedule for additional recurrent and intermittent clients, and as I continue to overflow, those of you not on a recurrent schedule with me will still be able to come to NWGR and see Zevi instead.

This is such a special milestone to be approaching at only 18 months in business at this location. Thank you all so much for the love and support!

🖤 In memory of sweet Lucy 🖤

Last week Lucy came for her annual grooming appointment and as always she was a perfect girl. She could no longer get around so she laid down for her bath and I dried her on a blanket on the floor so she didn't have to get on the table. She left smelling fresh and feeling soft.

Later in the week, she went in for a dental procedure and to have a mass removed and sadly she did not come out of anesthesia. This was a known possibility for a dog of her age, but I'm so thankful to her parents for commiting to her care and never letting old age be a reason that a pet doesn't continue to recieve medical care.

Lucy was close to my heart and will be so sorely missed by everyone who knew her, but especially her parents who spent so many wonderful years with her by their side.

Fly free Lucy. Onward and upward to your next journey.

🏔️ PRO BONO PUP BLITZ 🏔️

Today we were blessed to have the opportunity to shine up 6 local shelter dogs in need of a little TLC. Both and SpokAnimal C.A.R.E. sent three dogs our way, and all six were lovely for their appointments!

In order of appearance-

SCRAPS DOGS

Nelly 60089: Nelly is a wonderful mid size poodle mix of approximately 30lbs. She is an energized and fun loving spirit who would likely accel as an adventure companion or beginner sport prospect. She may be a dog that becomes bored if given no extra stimulus in life. She tolerated the groom well and was easy to handle for everything except her foot shave which made her highly agitated, but seeing the condition she arrived in, it's clear she has limited experience being groomed. It can only go up from here. She is exceptionally soft and seemed very friendly to all.

Gumbo 59214: Gumbo is a large middle aged to senior shepherding type dog who plans to just go with the flow and take naps. Boy he was filthy today but he was a gentleman for his groom and even though he was uncomfortable being handled on the table, he settled in as time passed. He has crinkley little ears that indicate a history of hematomas but he looks pretty cute with his tiny custom ears. He would make a great companion for someone who just wanted a buddy to share the couch with and go for casual walks.

Joe 59706: Joe is a large mix of sorts with soft, dense hair, and a killer dad bod. He is definitely a relaxed dog that just wants a quiet home where he can rest. He was great for his groom but did seem to have some potential arthritis because he was grumbly about having his legs manipulated. After a good nail dremel he's getting around even better than before, and now he smells like flowers to boot.

SPOKANIMAL DOGS

Smokey 105860: Smokey is your ideal shepherd type. Energetic and willing but also tolerant of touch and handling with no interest in lashing out even when uncomfortable with new stimulus. He was EXCELLENT for his entire groom, including a nail grind, and he was a gentleman in his crate. He also attends play groups at his shelter so he is known to be tolerant of other dogs.

Lucky 106637: Lucky was such a wonderful boy here at the salon today. All around an excellent dog who tolerated the entire process perfectly. He also attends play groups at the shelter and is known to be good with other dogs. He would likely fit in well in a variety of homes that vary from relaxed to active as he didn't seem to be too needy, but he's definitely physically fit and willing to participate in things with his people.

Bella: Bella is adorable and soft like a giant teddy bear. She was very good for her groom but was suspicious of being handled and did not safely allow her feet to be finished. She is overweight with signs of arthritis and seemed pretty uncomfortable standing by the end of the process. She is a relatively aloof dog which is to be expected from a Samoyed/Chow Chow type. She would be a great option for a quiet home or someone who appreciates independent personalities and wants a room mate type dog who isn't always in the back pocket. Hopefully her future owner will help her shed some weight so she can feel her most comfortable self. Overtime as she lives in a healthy environment, her coat staining will go away and she will be a beautiful biscuit shade without all the urine staining. Here's to a literally brighter future for Bella!

Today we appreciate the incredible hard work of groomer Zevi as he conquered the nearly impossible and turned these two farm dogs into glistening white clouds of perfection.

On Monday 05/15 we will be hosting a special cats only day to accommodate all of our new and existing cat clients!

9am and 12pm slots are still available for lion cuts, and 3pm slots are still available for bath and blow out appointments for non matted cats.

🐾Katie and Zevi are both certified in cat grooming through JKL school of grooming and have years of handling experience.

🐾 We have specific degreasing and shampoo protocols for our kitty clients to keep them shiny and sleek without drying out.

🐾There will be no dogs present on 05/15, so cats that are uncomfortable with other animals may do best on this day.

Lion cuts start at $75. Bathing and blowing out starts at $75. Additional handling charges may apply for severe matting or especially challenging behavior.

This weekend I encountered one of the risks of pet grooming first hand when I ended up at the minor ER with a cluster of hair stuck in my eye! Luckily the folks at Providence got me back in order with an eye flush and fluorescent stain to make sure we were all clear.

Grooming is not for the faint of heart or body. It's very physically demanding, very dirty, and carries many short term and long term risks to the body. I'm so thankful to all of our clients who appreciate what it takes to give them great results and to keep their pets safe and healthy.
