Spay and neuter rules, you wanna know why 🤔
→There are many many benefits to fixing your pet, here are just a few...
🐾Reduced Risk of Certain Cancers: Spaying female pets eliminates the risk of ovarian and uterine cancers and significantly reduces the risk of mammary cancer and neutering male pets eliminates the risk of testicular cancer and can lower the risk of prostate problems.
🐾Behavioral Improvements: Spaying and neutering can lead to calmer behavior. For example, spayed females won’t go into heat, which can eliminate behaviors like excessive vocalization and restlessness. Neutered males are less likely to engage in behaviors such as marking territory with urine and roaming.
🐾 Decreases Unwanted Litters: Spaying and neutering help control the pet population by preventing unwanted litters. This helps reduce the number of pets that end up in shelters and rescues, where they may face long waits for adoption or be euthanized due to overcrowding.

So what is TNR exactly 🤔⁠
TNR stands for "Trap-Neuter-Return." It is a method used for managing populations of free-roaming cats, particularly feral cats. The process involves trapping the cats, having them spayed or neutered to prevent reproduction, and then returning them to their original habitat. TNR programs aim to control cat populations in a humane and effective way while reducing euthanasia rates. It is considered a more humane alternative to traditional methods of managing feral cat populations. If you have a feral cat around your house, check out of community cat program 🐱⁠

Pet Savers offers a community cat program, which is the same as TNR. No appointment is required to made online, instead check out the requirements for this program...⁠
- Community cats can be dropped off Monday through Friday from 7am to 8:30 am. ⁠
- Limited number of TNR drop offs per day, so it's a first-come first-serve basis.⁠
- 40$ copay ⁠(will be $50 starting 8/1)
- 1 trapped cat per owner per day⁠
- Cat must arrive in a hard carrier or in a trap ⁠
- Service included are spay/neuter, anesthesia, pain medication, core vaccinations, and a REQUIRED ear tip⁠
- If your community cat has fleas, ear mites, worms, or other health concerns and you cannot afford the treatment, we have additional funds available so the cat can still get treatment! ⁠

It's Back - Testicle Festival 2024 is in 3.5 weeks!!

Pet Savers Spokane is taking a ballsy approach to help cat owners control feline populations by offering FREE neutering for 150 cool male cats during their sixth annual “Testicle Festival” on October 6, 2024. The approach is so popular, neutering appointments are almost sold out. We have 48 spots left!!

Why free? Because there’s a cat overpopulation problem in our area. More than 3.2 million cats enter shelters across the U.S. each year, and only 2.1 million are adopted or returned to their home. Inland Northwest/Spokane is no exception.

If, however, we get cats spayed/neutered, we will no longer have this problem. That’s why Pet Savers is hosting their Testicle Festival.

The initiative is just one of the ways Pet Savers has been working with the Give Them TenTM movement and their way-too-cool mascot, Scooter The Neutered Cat to increase spay/neuter efforts.

Playfully catty and gonad-free, Scooter has been on a mission to build a better world by spreading the word about low-cost spay/neuter to help build cat-caring communities across the U.S. Introduced in Cincinnati, Ohio, in 2013, ScooterTM has remained an essential and memorable part of Give Them TenTM, a nonprofit movement funded by The Joanie Bernard Foundation.

Pet Savers stopped giving out rabies tags when a pet received a rabies vaccination in 2023 💉
→But why did we stop giving them out 🤔
Rabies tags were not a fool proof way to show that an animal had been vaccinated because anyone was able to purchase one off of common websites such as Amazon. Instead of rabies tags, we give out medical records for each pet to show if a pet has received their rabies vaccination or not 🤩

Topical Spot-on insecticide: many spot-on insecticides are formulated with chemicals that can be highly toxic to cats

→Petsavers offers a rabies vaccination for both cats and dogs for 20$, plus 5 more dollars for the 3 year rabies vaccination 💉
→A rabies vaccine can be given at EITHER a vaccine clinic appointment or during a spay/neuter appointment. Vaccine clinic appointments are held every Tuesday and Saturday and spay/neuter appointments are held every day Monday through Friday

Foxtails refer to the seed heads of certain grasses, which have a distinctive shape resembling a fox’s tail. These grasses are often found in the wild and can also be cultivated as ornamental plants 🌱
→The seed heads are covered in TINY, BARBED HAIRS THAT CAN EASILY CLING TO FUR.
→Foxtails can be problematic, especially for dogs 🐶.The barbs can get stuck in their fur or paws, potentially leading to infections or other health issues 🤒.They can It's a good idea to be cautious ⚠️ when walking in areas where these plants are common!!
