Happy Thanksgiving!
To celebrate we want to share a story about love and happiness for two of our very special clients.

Mia and Hazel are littermates who were in various shelters for years before being adopted from the Humane Society. They were difficult to place as they were older dogs who had to remain together and had to be the only pets in the home. To compound matters, the timing was in the thick of the COVID pandemic.

Samara and Jacob were preparing to buy their first home and were considering getting a dog when they saw these two at Bark Rescue Pub. What other families saw as obstacles for adoption these two felt were positive attributes. They knew they could provide them with a safe and loving home.

Once the adoption was final and Mia and Hazel joined their family, there were challenges ahead as with any new addition. Samara and Jacob weren’t discouraged and they loved the girls through it all.

Mia and Hazel started coming to Free Range Boarding in September of 2020 and have stayed with us 242 times over the years! Last year when our new office manager Sheena started working with us, Mia and Hazel weren’t her biggest fans. They seemed familir to Sheena and when a coworker asked where they had come from all the pieces came together. Sheena had been one of their caretakers at the Humane Society during their tenure in the shelter. She had fed them, vaccinated them and watched them be adopted and returned several times before landing in their forever home.

The girls took some time to warm up to Sheena, but once they realized they werent going back to the shelter ever again they decided she was a great friend to have on their side!

Soon Jacob and Samara added another member to their household and they weren’t sure how the girls would do with a new baby in the home. Mia and Hazel rose to the challenge and loved their new sister with all their hearts.

Sadly, Hazel recently crossed the Rainbow Bridge and Mia has cancer in her spleen. We don’t know how much more time Mia has with her family, but they and the staff here at Free Range Boarding are making the best of the time we have left with this sweet girl.

A true rags to riches story for these beautiful girls and we are Thankful for them and their family.
