The berries are getting their blush on! Our early berries are on a slope in a strange micro-climate so they take their time waking up. We're thinking the 2nd week of July. We always say "Just because they are blue, does not mean they are ripe." Blueberries actually get larger and sweeter as they hang on the bush a bit longer and we'd prefer you have that berry, not the smaller tart berries. If you would like to order pre-picked, we are taking orders. They are $32.50 a gallon this season. We'll hopefully see you soon!

A correction to the pricing on blueberry bushes for our class. They will be $15 for the Calypso, not $12, due to royalty since they are still under patent. The other two varieties will be $12. Sorry for the miscommunication. but still a huge deal! We were at Home Depot the other day and saw the puniest of bushes for $12.98. The difference in quality, health and size in these bushes will be notable. They will look like this. Looking forward to seeing you there!

Just a few more weeks until our class on growing blueberries and getting them to thrive here since they are an acidic soil loving plant we want to grow in our very alkaline soil. It's the perfect time of year to plant them! The Rosarium will have three varieties for you to purchase for only $12/bush while you are there, which is an amazing price. Dukes, Chandler and our beloved Calypso! Calypso are still under patent so they are a special treat. I will let everyone know the special attributes of each variety during the class if you haven't tasted them at the farm (AND, if you bought one of each, you'd have berries all season long in your home garden!) With this great spring weather, we're looking forward to seeing everyone there! I was so excited to talk to Carol at the Rosarium the other night. Looks like she will have three of our favorite varieties of blueberry bushes available to purchase at our class on April 7th at a GREAT price so you can learn how to plant them AND take some home if you'd like. This was very exciting news! Hope to see you there!

It was a GREAT show this year! They even had live music and the band was great. But for those of us in the Ag community, it's a great way to connect, to see what's new in technology, to get our continuing education credits and touch bases once again. As Melisa says "Meet, Learn, Grow." Another great year. Thanks Melisa Paul and Spokane Ag Show!

Every season I like to post the forecast for winter for those who haven't seen it. Per the USDA, we're in a drought. Drought isn't a good thing for us farmers or for us dependent on a well. I like a mild winter as much as the next guy, but not when it means the drought is going to continue. For us, it is. A mild winter with mild precipitation. This is from the National Weather Service.

I haven't meant to be absent so long. Whew! I FINALLY got released from PT just this past week and hoping for a full-time release to farming from the surgeon this next week. I'm just not the normal old lady patient. We did a ton of extra sessions to get me back into fighting condition. ๐ŸฅŠNow onto the real work! Farming! Hoping to get space cleared for a whole 'nuther section for raspberries this next spring. Steve has some space all cleared off for some ever-bearing raspberries we're going to get in the ground this fall. And yet some more blueberries. The guys got a ton of landscape fabric down around the bushes this season. Steve and Brian didn't get all of the rows done, but over half the farm, which will make it much easier coming into next year when they will finish them off. Fighting the weeds has been a yearly nightmare and the landscape fabric will make it so much easier for all of us. I sure missed seeing everyone this year and looking forward to next year, that's for sure. I don't do 'house' very well. The only thing that kept me going was the puppies. We got a new Westie puppy named Marley and Riley had a few of her own that have kept me busy. Nothing like chasing puppies to keep me in shape. The puppies go to their new homes in a few weeks. One here and one in Alaska and then we're off to the races on the farm once again.

We are so sorry to inform everyone, but we are going to have to close for the season. Lauri is still undergoing long term PT so she can get back to farming, which we've been informed will be much more involved than normal PT. Her surgeon isn't letting her loose to let her do what she loves to do anytime soon for fear she'll end up back under his knife, and due to some natural forces beyond our control, we aren't seeing the berry production out in the fields this year we should have to keep our customers happy. The guys will spend the rest of the season getting the landscape fabric down in the rows so next season we won't have to continue to fight the weeds as much. As you know, we don't just say "Our berries are never sprayed", but we don't like to spray our fields at all for your health and the health of our environment. The plants absorb whatever is sprayed around them and we believe our customers deserve more than a marketing line. You deserve to know what's in the food you eat. Keep in touch and watch our page because we will be expanding some of our berry products also this summer as Lauri is slowly released for more activities. She's biting the bullet with ideas since she can't be out working. We apologize and will miss seeing everyone this season. You are the lifeblood of our farm and the reason we keep going every day.

Despite the heat, we had a great weekend. Thank you to everyone who braved the scorching sun to visit us. As we head into the week, we will be open all week from 8-5. Thank heaven it looks like Monday will be a bit cooler. If you need a different time than our posted hours, let us know. Look at the size of the berries that were picked out there this weekend!!

There are enough pickable blueberries out there that we can open. The berries will ripen more over the next week or so, especially in this heat. We will be open Saturday and Sunday 8-1:00 to start, and we will gauge our traffic and berry availability from there. Due to me being down since last fall, the guys aren't done prepping the fields. I apologize again in advance for the mess and for everything not being completely ready to go on opening day. This year we're punting, but it is what it is. The good news is the berries are huge. It should be easy picking. We have buckets to pick into, stools, butt pads and wagons. We're looking forward to seeing you!

We've had such a great response to people wanting raspberries, we're going to have to put the brakes on the rest of the week while more berries ripen. Thank you to all who have been out to pick so far. What great people we have in our community! Those of you already on the board, there are still berries out there. We just don't want people disappointed. We will post again as more raspberries come ripe. Next big announcement should be blueberries. We're thinking Thursday for any FB friends who can come, with Saturday being the big opening day. Whose onboard?!
