Ayres Animal Shelter provides a home between homes to dogs and cats who need to find a safe, loving place to land in Sprakers NY.

Ayres Memorial Animal Shelter operates as a "quality of life" shelter, and the devoted workers are committed to making sure that every animal in their care has exactly that. In addition, all animals receive all necessary shots, wormings, and other medical treatments. All would-be adoptive families are carefully screened before being allowed to take home any pet. In this way, each adopted animal is assured of a good and loving home.

Missing and not familiar with surroundings.

There was a fire to a vehicle on the NYS Thruway at MileMarker 206 East Bound this afternoon. All animals were able to get out, but one cat - Lily ran off the thruway into the fields.

It was Near Indian Castle Church and Bellinger Rd Fort Plain.

📢Rescues and shelters all over New York State and the entire country are operating in a crisis state with the number of animals in their care rising, and unfortunately not enough homes for them it seems.

It is a tricky time with a lot of stress on so many - especially the animals. Everyone needs to support one another, while at the same time, competing in a sense to get those dogs or cats in their own facilities into the limited homes that there are.

The price of everything is steadily climbing, and it makes it hard to support your own household - let alone donate to others. We understand, but have to admit that this is a year that we haven't seen in a long, long time. Animal numbers are up -usually increasing daily, length of stay numbers are going up even more, and donations of goods are low.

There's so many ways that our friends and supporters can help.
🐾Adopt.
🐾Volunteer.
🐾Foster.
🐾Advocate for current dogs and cats at Ayres.
🐾Come to fundraisers.
🐾Donate.
🐾Help educate about the importance of spay/neuter and adoption.
🐾Just be pawsitive. There's soo much negativity in the world. And a lot is aimed towards shelters. Just be positive. Tell someone what they are doing right. Burnout is real and animal care cannot lose any more dedicated people. Be nice to your vet staff. Be nice to those trying. ❤️

👇Below is a collage of Ringo - one of our long term dogs who is waiting patiently for his forever family. Ringo is good with most dogs, rides well in the car, is okay with dog savvy kids, loves to explore and is waiting for his own chair to curl up on. Ringo has a big bark, but he has an even bigger heart and an enormous love of kisses. Ringo is 3-4 years and has been at the shelter most of his life. He knows how loved he is, but he also knows there's more he's meant for in this life. ❤️

These two are 1 year old sisters who have always been together and we'd really love to keep it that way.

They are a little reserved at first, but with patience (and treaties) they will be won over quickly and become such an amazing part of their new family.

Meet Hugo! This guy is a complete ham! He loves people, is good with other cats and just loves to be loved.

Hugo is 1-2 years old and when he was brought to us after being found, he did have to be shaved down. But oh how great he must feel now. 😻

Hugo is a man after everyone's heart! As a bonus, he's a great listener, and he'll talk back. 😸

Queenie came to us after being found as a stray in need on July 26th. She was pregnant with what we thought was a big litter of kittens.

Queenie went right into one of our amazing fosters, but on July 31st, she was seen having unusual discharge. Thankfully she was able to get right into the vet where it was determined that she had very high white blood cells and a c-section needed to be performed as the best chance to save both her and her babies.

Luckily, Queenie made it out just fine from surgery and so did her beautiful babies, now known as Princess Diana and Miss Markle. These two are fighters, and they have a beautiful, caring and attentive mama who loves them so so much!

Sometimes when you're making a decision one way or another, you just have to make one with the knowledge you have and hope it's the best. We are so thankful that the babies are okay and thriving, however we also learned that Miss Queenie had Pyometra at the same time as trying to carry her babies to term. Pyometra is a serious and life-threatening infection in the uterus of cats or dogs that haven't been spayed or neutered.

A surgery like this isn't something we plan for in the day to day, but we are so thankful that because of donors and friends like you, we were able to get her what she needed to get back to feeling better. ♥

Rocky is sweet, silly, playful and cuddly!

This handsome guy is a rottie mix. He loves people, is good with some calmer dogs and really is a complete ham! He loves to be brushed, rides good in the car and loves walks. But he also loves to check in for a head scratching, too.

Rocky loves with all of his heart. He hasn't met a stranger yet. Everyone is a friend. Rocky was in the office yesterday for the entire afternoon, and was so clean and respectful. He helped customers coming in and helped keep staff motivated on a rainy day. 😍 Now if he doesn't sound like someone you need in your lives, then we just don't know what to say.

Rocky needs a home, he needs shares. Let's get his cute face out there. He's a pawsome dog looking for his forever family.

Two pigs have been spotted roaming freely in the area of Conway Road and Carlisle Road in the Town of Root since Sunday. We are currently trying to locate their owner. If you can describe the missing pigs, we will help accommodate the reunion.

Help us ensure these adventurous pigs get back home safely!

The MANY looks of Keanu. He's got eyes to steal your heart and a smile that will light up any gloomy day. And don't even get us started about those ears when he puts them up! 😍😍

Keanu is just over a year old. LOVES people! He'd chose pets over food any day of the week. Keanu is good with some dogs, he's good with kids, but he doesn't realize he's 60 pounds.

This handsome guy wants to kiss you all day long and 100% thinks he is a lap dog.

He's full of life and love and ready for a family to realize all he has to offer.

Zelda came in emaciated and on edge of what was going on. She quickly realized she would not have to go without, would make new human friends who loved her and even dog friends to pal around with. Zelda is still awaiting her spay, but she's ready to meet her new forever pawrents, too. Zelda is about 3 to 4 years old. Good with most dogs, seems okay with cats. She knows sit, shake and lay down. Zelda is a favorite around here - we know she could wiggle her way into your heart, too!

What do you do when you've been promoted to office manager on a Monday morning. Well you watch cat TV of course. Our new office manager, Ellie is purrfect! She knows how to keep a conversation. She can cuddle like the best of them and boy will She make you laugh! This little darling was born on 2/23/24. And she's ready to find her forever family. 😻

Panda has the best puppy dog eyes in the whole world. He knows one day soon he's going to win someone over with the look! Here he is last night when the snow was coming in. 😍 This handsome hunk of a man could be your adventure buddy and snuggle bug. ❤️

This past week, Ayres has taken in 9 bottle babies and 21 adult cats from a local condemned home. We are so thankful we were able to assist Fort Plain NY Police Department when they asked for help for these animals. But we couldn't have done what we did without the endless help from Fort Plain Animal Hospital. Everything from helping us catch cats, to boarding them and giving them much needed vet care. We couldn't have taken all these cats in on our own, but many many thanks to Amsterdam NY Kitten Adoptions for taking on four bottle babies, to All Creatures Big and Small Pet Rescue for taking five bottle babies and three adult cats and to Oswego County SPCA - OCAWL and Oswego County Humane Society for each taking three adult cats. It takes a village, and these cats and our team are thankful for you all! 😻 The cost of vetting that we have done for these animals have been racking up quickly. At Fort Plain Animal Hospital and with other core vaccines, testing, flea treatments and dewormings we are up to about $2,200. We are asking for our friends help! These babies will be available soon and have really proven to be resilient and sweet cats now that they're starting to feel better!
