I also specialize in starting colts with a solid foundation, that can then be taken in any direction and I tune-up horses for sale and train barrel horses. Alissa has been on a horse for over 30 years having grown up on a ranch in the mountains of Colorado where good horsemanship was a necessity. She began training client's horses in high school where she refined and added to her skill set. She ha

s trained horses in and/or competed in most western disciplines, hunter under saddle, cross country, jumping and racing. Colorado State University is where Alissa obtained her degree in Equine Science while continuing to train horses, compete in college rodeos, and participate in Air Force ROTC. Following college she commissioned into the United States Air Force where she served full time for 8 years. All the while, she continued to haul her string of horses around the country to compete in barrel racing and breed and raise new prospects. Now established in Spring Branch, TX, Alissa is back into the riding lesson and horse training business full time. Riding lessons are more than the student showing up to ride, they also include learning the basics of horse care to include catching, grooming, and tacking up. All students, from small children through adults, are expected to learn and continue to demonstrate these foundational skills. From there, it's dependent on the rider and their own abilities and desires to continue to advance their riding skills. Alissa believes that every horse is unique and there isn't one training model that is exactly the same for every horse. All colts are started with ground work in a round pen where they learn to yield to pressure. Their first ride is with a rope around their neck, they then move on to a bosal, followed by a D-ring snaffle bit. The end product is a horse that is responsive to seat, leg and hand movements and one that trusts its rider.

Rocket is an extremely well-bred 4 year old AQHA dark bay gelding, standing at almost 16 hands. Son of Zippy Zevi Dasher, a proven producer of multiple barrel race winners and money earners. He is futurity eligible.
Rocket was started as a 2 yr old but has been off to a slow start due to coming along right before I had my first two children and several moves around the country. Consequently, I do not have the time to really get him going and don’t want him to go to waste! He has a laid back personality and is mid to low in the pecking order. His training has consisted of 45 days of initial training and then off and on spurts of continued training since then, reminding him of the basics and slowly progressing to giving to seat and leg pressure. Learning to side pass and cross over. Weaves through cones at the trot easily. Very soft mouth. Takes the correct lead. Rides in or out of the arena. He is not yet patterned.

For your consideration. Available mid to late September. Gelded in 2020. Not yet patterned.
