There’s beauty even in death! (And in mummification😉) Immediately after death, specific changes occur in the body, leading to the total dissolution of the soft tissues and internal organs. In some cases, when in suitable conditions, the decomposition process could stop and be displaced by mummification.

Natural mummification is unique because it's an unintentional process that occurs when a body is exposed to environmental factors that prevent decay (extreme cold/very dry conditions)

Better late than never 🦇🩷
To start off I’d like to introduce myself! My name is Mikayla Kerley and I’m the owner and creator of Ethereal art & Oddities. I started my business at the end of August 2021 with the hopes of providing unique products and services for other like minded people. Since 2021, it has evolved into so much more than I ever imagined it could be.

In 2021, I started dabbling in “bone preparation” and wet specimen curation. I was later given the opportunity to take part of several start up vendor events in Central Texas(where I started)

In 2022 I successfully opened and managed a brick and mortar shop with the help of my brother in Elko Nevada. We made a number of customized insect displays and offered memorial preservation services to those in Elko NV. During this time I was able to create a safe space for those around me and in our small community. We sadly had to shut our store front down in may of 2023 and had to revert all business back to an online platform- where I originated.❤️

With this change I’ve been able to focus more on my preservation services which ranges from bug preservation/restoration to pet preservation and more. My services are now available to virtually all of the United States.

At the end of the day I hope to change someone else’s life for the better

Considering offering a Butterfly Pinning Workshop!

Is there anyone local that would be interested in this? 🦋 trying to gauge interest!

I’d love to teach others about the scientific and creative aspects that come with pinning & preserving butterflies!

Ever wondered about the real-world use of wet specimens? 🧪 In the medical industry preserved biological samples hold valuable insights into diseases and treatments and allows for study of tissues down to a cellular level.

Over time its applications have been used for private collections, artistic applications, and even more so for educational tools.
