Well, this year is about over and it's almost a new year. And boy has the last year been one for the books. Sadly, there are just SO MANY LIES & SCAMS, these days! And there are So Very Many BDM Bikes getting RUINED! I'm still hearing the same 'ol LIES & SCAMS in the BDM world, and even some "New" SCAMS too! Out of the same 'ol Con Artist, and even a couple of New ones, too!!! And the Drama is at an All Time High, too! I'm pretty sure that the time has come to EXPOSE all of these LIES & SCAMS to the BDM World and the "individuals" behind all of this crap & WHY, for exactly what & who they are. The LIES & SCAMS from the CON ARTIST!!! What are your thoughts on this idea?

We at Dead One Customs have been seeing all kinds of “FALSE & MISLEADING” posts on Facebook, regarding Operational Functionality, Dependability and other MIS-UNDERSTOOD information with the Dead One Customs “ESC Unit” (Electrical System Controller), We would simply like to clear up ALL of this “FALSE & MISLEADING” information ONCE AND FOR ALL

In 2004, BDM, LLC had started experiencing very many electrical failures with the motorcycles that they produced. These electrical failures were the root cause to many accidents, in which many operators were very seriously injured and some were even killed! Over many years of these electrical failures and the inability of BDM, LLC to correctly identify, locate and rectify the actual electrical problem(s); BDM, LLC was constantly dealing w/ accident and damage lawsuits, prior to their going out of business in 2010/2011.

In 2007, Dead One Customs was the “FIRST” to properly and fully identify the actual electrical fault(s) in the BDM electrical system and develop the “ONLY” bulletproof remedy for the infamous BDM Headlight Failure issue. We at Dead One Customs have seen where others in today’s world have tried to COPY our remedies in this area. SADLY, due to cost saving modifications and their lack of factual electrical knowledge, their remedy kits will fail, as well. So use caution!

In 2008, the Dead One Customs “ESC Unit” (Electrical System Controller) was the “SECOND” BDM replacement controller system to be introduced on the market. It was primarily designed as a TOTAL & PERMANENT RESOLUTION to ALL of the electrical faults/failures within the BDM Electrical System. It was the “FIRST” to be “100% Plug-N-Play”! The ESC Unit was “Far Superior” to its predecessor, the Wire-Plus System, a hard wired installation.

“After searching for an electrical problem on my K9 my ECH started smoking I decided to go with a new ESC unit. I first pulled out the screwed up BDM wiring harness and controller.
Installed the ESC unit in the same location as stock ECH. Plugged all connectors with dielectric grease. All wires with the new branch harnesses are labeled. A complete full colored wire diagram show what function each plug goes to, very simple.
Ran main harness through the backbone and plugged in all branch circuit connections with a dab of dielectric grease. The ESC comes with a completely new braided steel headlight wire with ceramic plug. It gets rid of that three feet of coiled up wire in the 08 K9 headlight bucket.
Used the included zip ties to bundle up the wire harness.
Zip tied the backbone harness and wrapped it up in the under tank cover on the backbone.
All stock functions work perfect. I did go with the electrical system monitor also. I haven't even had the dreaded starter clunk since.”

There seems to be much “false” mis-information being posted about the Dead One Customs ESC Unit. I wish to post some "factual" information to better help clear the air.

USE CAUTION! I just read a post on a different group page that is totally FALSE! The posting individual claims to have worked on many BDMs. Evidently from the info he posted, it's no where near what he claims, if any whatsoever. The following is what was posted: ....."A lot of the 117’s have 585 cams. S&S had a deal with big dog and built the engines a specific way for BD. So basically, the S&S engines in all CI’s were different from the stock every day engines comparable to the ones built for BD. you can go to a 600 cam without needing springs. You will need to do other things to the engine though" .....This information is INCORRECT! Please DO NOT be fooled by these FALSE claims. USE CAUTION!

MODELS: 1994 – 2004 Big Dog Motorcycles.

The 1994 –1998 Big Dog Motorcycles were individually “hand wired” per unit.

The 1999 –2002 Big Dog Motorcycles were more uniformly wired per unit. And the FIRST Electronic Harness Controllers (EHC) was introduced. The Electronic Harness Controllers (EHC) pictured below was manufactured by Thunder Heart Performance Products.

The 2003 Big Dog Motorcycles were more uniformly wired per unit. And the SECOND Electronic Harness Controllers (EHC) , BD4030-1B was introduced. The Electronic Harness Controllers (EHC) pictured below was manufactured for BDM by an outside contractor. Due to the ’03 EHC was such a close duplication to the previous Thunder Heart Controller. Big Dog Motorcycles was forced to stop the production of this unit due to an issue of possible copyright infringement.

The 2004 Big Dog Motorcycles were uniformly wired per unit model. And the THIRD Electronic Harness Controllers (EHC) , BD4030-04 that was the FIRST Micro Processor Based Controller was introduced 2004. Hard, black potting material: This EHC was used for 2005 and early 2006 models. Uses a round serial cable plug for diagnostic software and has thru-hole LED’s that protrude from the top of the potting material.

Soft, clear potting material: This EHC was used for 2006 K9 production. It was also used as warranty replacement for all 2005-2006 models prior to the use of 170-000010-00. Uses a round serial cable plug for diagnostic software and has thru-hole LED’s that protrude from the top of the potting material. This EHC, and only this EHC, is affected by recall 06V-305.

NOTE: Both styles of the 170-000001-00 EHC are Type 1.

EHC PART NUMBER IDENTIFICATION: 171-000019-00
Short, single-board EHC that functions the same as 171-000015-00 but has a semi-hard, clear potting material. This EHC was introduced in December 2006 for the 2007 model year. Uses a round serial cable plug for diagnostic software and has surface- mount LEDs that do not protrude from the top of the potting material.

NOTE: EHC 171-000019-00 EHC is Type 1.

Tall, dual-board EHC with semi-hard, black potting material and has a black case. Introduced for late 2008 model year production and for 2009 model carbureted bikes. Uses a USB plug for diagnostic software and has thru-hole LEDs that protrude from the top of the potting material.

NOTE: EHC 176-000007-00 EHC is Type 2.
