Who is ready for a Maxie PUPdate??
Remember Maxie? The older Beagle gal with the 5.5 lb tumor protruding from her abdomen?? Look at her now!! Maxie is doing amazing!! Her wounds have healed and she has gotten rid of that horrible cone of shame! HERO Mama Sue said Maxie has really blossomed since the cone came off. We are pretty sure it scared her. But now look at her! She not only has the love of the foster humans, but also her foster siblings 🐾 She is finding love that she never even knew existed! Maxie will be moving on to a longer term foster soon where she can continue to learn to hunt the next refrigerator meal and hold the couch down! She will be available for adoption soon (in the coming months). We are still learning who she is, and SHE is still learning who she is!! Now that she is all healed and unrestricted, she continues to grow!! ❤️ 🐾

Featuring sweet Miss Daisy who would love a home of her own where she can get all the love & be someone constant companion 🥰🐾💜

Miss Daisy has a lot going for her, she adores kids and people (pulls the leash to get to anyone who might show her love 🥰). She loves the outdoors weather it is sunning outside or getting leash up for a walk.

Miss Daisy is good with dogs and is not bothered by critters in the yard, so cats are probably ok. Can get tested, if requested.

Her only negative: she is food protective/driven around other dogs 💔. She has NEVER been aggressive to a human over food just other pups.

When Miss Daisy came to us, she was about 45lbs (now 36ish) & had several large bladder stones from being fed a diet of hot dogs and human scraps. When her owner passed, the son threw her outside to fend for herself due to her being moody with food around his dog. She wandered around for food and love 💔.

As an only dog, Miss Daisy would be in heaven. She has the sweetest smile & her tail never stops going around like a helicopter! Her foster mama her Badonkadonk since her weight causes her to sway when she walks, it’s her cute swagger.

It’s officially dumping season, my least favorite time of the year. 💔 Right now, two horrible things happen daily:

1. “Hunters” who are done for the season, dump their no longer needed beagles & hounds to fend for themselves in the cold winter

2. People are abandon their older dog companions in order to trade them in for Christmas puppies. 💔🐾

This sucks and we hate to post it, but it is the truth that brings down spirit of the holidays every year for us in rescue. We want to save them all, but we have limited fosters and resources and adoptions are slow cause everyone wants Christmas puppies, not our amazing rescue pups.

Right now, we see your posts, tags, messages, but like all shelters & rescues we are beyond overwhelmed. All the photos below have been posted in the last week & are just a few of the ones we have been tagged in.

If you want to make a difference, go to your shelter or a local rescue to foster and/or adopt an amazing pups. I guarantee you the stress of rescuing a pup & training them to enjoy the good indoor life will be less than that of training a puppy. These pups will value your love in ways you won’t believe once they trust you & you will literally be a HERO when you save a life.

Maury County TN Residents & Neighbors: our amazing fosters Kay & James have their Christmas display officially on at 828 Academy Lane in Columbia, TN! 😍🎅🏻🎄.

Lights are on nightly from 6-10 weather permitting & they are raising donations for HERO Hound Rescue, so if possible please bring dog supplies to drop into our donation bin or they have signs with our Venmo ID.

Please do not block the road or the neighbors’ driveways. Columbia Academy has graciously agreed to allow parking in their lot directly across the street from the house.

Feel free to walk onto the lawn to see the lights but please stay behind the candy cane/tree border. The actual lawn is covered in cords and is very dangerous to walk through.

Giant thank you to Kay & James for always support HERO & fostering some of the most in need of rescue hounds..a lot of pups owe their lives to their generosity. 🙏🐾🥰

In less than a week, Maxie has realized cuddling in a warm bed at night is the best 🥰🐾💜

Maxie is still nervous about HERO Mama Sue, especially when she is up moving around, but she trusts the pack & is following their lead on most things like how to use the doggie door, where to go for meals & where to sleep 🥰

Maxie’s stitches might be coming out next Tuesday 🙏. We are hoping when the cone of shame comes off, the trust in Mama Sue will rise quickly. Maxie is one strong, smart & sweet girl, so we just know her future is bright!

Leroy is our longest foster being with HERO for 3 yrs in March & while we love him, we would love to see him have a home of his own 🙏🐾💙

Leroy is seriously one of the best beagles we have had, sweet, loving, goofy, gets along with everyone & every animal. We believe Leroy’s biggest obstacle to being adopted is that he need heart medicine due to prolonged exposure to heartworms. 🥺

Leroy came to us in March 2022 & we truly didn’t think he would make it, his heart was failing, he had pancreatitis, he was so weak, but we didn’t give up. It took nearly 2 yrs and 2 heartworm treatments to get him heartworm negative. He has gone from 3 meds, 2x a day to 2 meds, 1x a day (which we have an abundance of).

Leroy was in a foster-to-adopt home, but he didn’t adjust well to their home that was near a busy area & train tracks. We believe the noises of outside was too much causing him to have many accidents, so a home locating somewhere calm would be ideal.

Leroy is about 9-10 yrs old, but may be younger as we are basing his age on how advance is heartworms were 3 yards ago. Leroy has so much energy, loves to play with young beagles & puppies…he believes they are his chew toys 🙈

Another Leroy “issue” is he is food crazy & will eat anything. When rescued, he was skinny & couldn’t keep down food. Now that he is healthy, he will eat anything from lettuce to paper if he thinks it is food 😳. He is also super clingy & loves to be as close as possible to his people.

Who’s ready for a Maxie PUPdate?!??😍

Maxie has been discharged and has been doing great in the HERO House Right with HERO Gma (Thank you Mama Sue as I like to call her ❤️)

Maxie loves her new blankie from Della, Maddon & Julie with Fur Angel Blessing Blanketeers! She loves it so much she takes it with her everywhere she goes…. Literally! She may not look happy in the photos, but she is just ready to lose the cone of shame which will come off VERY soon 💜 🐾

Thank you to EVERYONE for your love and support for Maxie since this all began. Because of your kindness and willingness to help, we were able to move quickly on getting the medical help she needed so she could get the chance she SO deserved ❤️ And well, just look at her. HERO Alum Ruthie had ACL surgery last week & is healing well! 🙏🐾💜

Ruthie came to HERO in Sept 2020 when she stopped being able to use her back legs after a hunt. HERO had just started in July, we had $87 in the bank & her surgery was estimated to be between $4-5k! 😳

Ruthie began our now 5 year journey of taking on the biggest cases even when our resources said we should pass. HERO was Ruthie’s last hope, if a rescue wasn’t found her hunter was going to euthanize her within days.

Ruthie was diagnosed with IVDD, intervertebral disc disease, but with surgery & lots of rest, she recovered. As a hunting dog, the hardest part of her recovery was keeping her calm for months while she healed. We fought her urges to hunt by forcing her to be a lap dog & our bond grew.

Due to Ruthie’s likelihood of needing more surgeries in the future & her bond to her HERO mama, we decided to adopt her & make her part of the HERO House forever. She is spunky (hence the ACL tear), the tiny boss of our house, but the things we wouldn’t do for her! 🥰

Meet Koda a 10 month old beagle boy looking for his furever home. Koda is your typical energetic, goofy and loud beagle puppy who just wants to play most the day away then crash with his people.

Koda is about 20lbs, good with dogs, cats and kids as long as they can handle his crazy beagle playfulness. Koda is a loud player and just loves to hear his beagle voice, so will not be suitable for an apartment. Ideally, he needs a large yard to get those zoomies out.

Koda is working on housetraining and is doing well, but as a puppy will need someone to continue to work with him.

Koda is fully vetted and microchipped.

His ideal family would be one that wants a high energy playmate for another pup or maybe just some rambunctious kids. One that is prepared for puppy antics & loves of love.

Koda is currently in foster in Smyrna, TN, but transport can be arranged for the right home.

Sweet Maxie is eating & as in good of spirits as she can be for having such an extensive surgery 🥰🐾💜

Maxie's is so at the vet being monitored, but we should be bringing her home soon. S you can tell by all the blankets our vet staff is making sure Maxie is super comfortable while she heals! 🥰

We do have a few foster offers that we are coming through for Maxie at the moment, so a big thank you to this who have offered!

Maxie's our miracle girl: 5.5lbs of tumor removed, spayed, dental & heartworm negative! 🎉 🐾💜

Our vet gave Maxie a 50/50 chance, but said she not once tried to crash or was in danger. For now, Maxie will be recovering at the vet for a day or 2 until she is eating, walking, & feeling more herself.

Maxie's tumor weighed more than 20% of her body weight, so we know she has to be feeling better with it gone, but being so large, her incision is large making the healing process longer.

Sweet Maxie, I know the next few months are going to be confusing & maybe a little hard with a lot of changes, but you will be back to loving life soon! 🥰

So not the news we were hoping for, but Maxie has about a 50/50 chance of making it thru surgery which will be preformed tomorrow 🙏🐾💜

The tumor is very vascular and fast growing which makes it a challenge. The alternative is to simply let her go, but we believe in giving every pup a chance & in giving Maxie an end of life where she can be painfree.

We are partnering with Cuddly to raise the funds needed for Maxie. Cuddly has been an amazing partner many times & we thank them for their ongoing support of animals in need.

Meet Adoptable Macie! 😍🐾💜 Like most of HERO intakes Macie came to HERO needing a lot of medical care, but she is worth it!

Macie was surrendered after her kennel was struck by lightning killing her male kennel mate. To avoid the same happening to her, the owner started looking for a new home for Macie.

Due to her lack of care, Macie was heartworm positive, has a heart murmur which requires on going medicine and she had a corneal abrasion cause some vision issues in one eye but is much better since treatment.

Macie is about 15-20lbs, 8-9 yrs old, sweet little girl who likes a calmer home with people she can follow every where.

Macie is good with dogs her size & temperament, but she does need some time to warm up slowly to a new pack. Her playmate is her foster beagle brother who is loves to play but respects Macie when she tells him she is done playing.

Macie tolerates cats but doesn’t want them near her. She did fine with her foster’s 7-year-old niece, but we believe she would do better with older calmer children as we could see her being overwhelmed by small children.

Macie does take meds daily for a heart murmur but is very active and playful. She loves her stuffies and carries them around with her. Macie does companionship and we believe she would be great for a couple who is wanting an affectionate dog with a low-key lifestyle.

Macie’s adoption fee will be $300 like every other pup in our care, but her vetting has totaled a little more than $1,525 to date. Which is why HERO depends so much on our amazing donors & friends to save precious lives like Macie’s. 🙏
