HERO ALUM Update: Mr. Beau formerly Gator is doing great! 🥰🐾💙

His mama sent this update: “I have started him on some supplements to help with Cushing disease symptoms & they have helped immensely. He had a growth in his mouth removed 2 months ago, he did really well through the surgery and didn’t have to have any other teeth removed.

He is my alarm clock at 630 am, who wouldn’t want a baying beagle for an alarm clock??? 😍He bays at me when it’s time to eat or he feels he’s not getting enough attention.

Beau and Loretta sleep together every night, they have even started playing with one another and as soon as one of the bassets come over they stop, lol. Thank you for doing what you do to save all the animals.”

Our little Violet’s 🌸 surgery was a success last week & she is now ready to start her search for a forever home!

Last week, Violet had a tooth removed that was growing backwards into her sinuses due to a dog bite she sustained at 4 weeks. 💔 Her breathing continues to improve as she heals, but she may always breathe a little louder (prepare yourself for snoring cuteness).

Violet has been more like her puppy self every day, playing more, and eating normally. Violet is your stereotypical hound girl who loves to play with other pups and be with her people & pack.

Violet is currently 29lbs & almost 6 months old (her birthday is 12.20.23). She is crate trained (sleeps all night in her crate with no fussing or accident) & is almost completely house trained.

Max Update: Max’s bones had already started to heal, so instead of surgery Max will be using a splint for a month or two to ensure proper bone alignment as he heals 🥰🐾🙏

Max is back with his furever family…yes, you read that right, the temp foster who helped us save Max from Memphis just couldn’t bare to let him go and Max felt the same way…he knew he found his furever home!

Max will still need to undergo heartworm treatment to ensure he has the happiest of long beagle lives, but this boy went from death row to the beagle dream life in record time! 💙

HERO Alum Update on Benji to brighten your day 🥰🐾

Benji went on his first family vacation, staying on the shore of Lake Michigan. He seems to be excited to take in the new sounds and smells. He's afraid of the waves, but loves sniffing around the beach. Deer come right up to the house and he's doing a great job protecting his family from them 😂

Prayer Request & Good Vibes for Violet who is currently in surgery to remove a deformed canine that is growing into her sinuses. 🙏🐾💜

Violet is a 5 month old Treeing Walker Coonhound who sustained a nose injury as a puppy after living with her brother in a rabbit hutch. Her nose injury was not treated leading to difficulty breathing which surgery will correct.

Violet & her brother were saved from a dangerous situation after 3 adult dogs had already been killed. These are unfortunate realities for many hounds in the south…being killed or abandoned if they don’t perform as hunters, inadequate housing, lack of veterinary care & lack of food.

Violet will be up for adoption soon so if you know of anyone looking to add a sweet, playful, young hound girl to their family apply for her!

Trapper has been with his fosters Kathleen & Kevin for a few days & has figured out that dog beds are good places to decompress. 🥰🐾💙

We believe Trapper has been on his own for a while between his cauliflower ear from an untreated hematoma, to his tough skin, to the sticks & grass in his stool 🥺. He is still scared, but he is starting to use his nose to explore his surroundings & loves a good meal.

Losing Sammie hurts our hearts in unimaginable ways, but we have to believe Sammie wanted us to save his friend Trapper. To help Trapper grow & flourish in a home of his own full of love.

Sweet, tiny Max needed a hero after his adoption was declined due to him having 2 broken bones 🥺🙏🐾💙

At HERO, we know broken bones can be fixed, so we immediately started on a plan to make Max a HERO Hound! But we couldn't have done it so quickly without an amazing beagle loving mom, Cheri, who stepped up to foster him on such short notice. 🥰

In addition to a fractured ulna & radius, Max is heartworm positive 💔. Right now, the plan is to treat with broken bones (thank goodness for the best vets) to ensure he is not in pain and his bones can begin to heal correctly then we tackle the heartworms.

Daisy Duke (formerly Beth) & Norma Jean officially started their heartworm treatment yesterday. 🙏🐾💜💜

Heartworm preventatives are mandatory for keeping your pup healthy and happy! Preventatives are much cheaper than the treatment & cause no pain to your pup (in fact, most are flavored like treats).

Heartworm treatment on the other hand, is extremely painful (deep tissue shots) and takes months for your dog to fully recover. It also costs a ton of money.

With that being said, please consider donating to our rescue! Heartworm treatment will be about $700 each!

Mari is on her last leg to her new home at NE Ohio Greyhound Rescue, Inc. where she will enjoy sanctuary life with many hound siblings 🥰

Her amazing foster Kay said “Mari was a hard one to let go because I know she never had any love in her life previously and she just soaked in every drop. We know that she will continue to be loved, receive medical care and live an amazing life in the sanctuary but we are going to miss her terribly 💔”

We are incredibly thankful to Kim with NE Ohio Greyhound Rescue for taking Mari so she can get the long-term care and unconditional love she deserves every day 🥰🐾💜

Thank you to all the incredible transporters that helped her on her way! Mari is so thankful for all your kindness & love.

Newest senior gals Norma Jean & Beth (aka Ms. Nosey) saw the vet today 💜🐾💜

First the bad news, Norma Jean & Beth are heartworm positive, have been suffering from upset stomachs & are full of hookworms. 😢

The good news, they are both healthy enough to receive treatment for all their problems! 🥰 They have been given frontal for their hookworms & meds to help their tummies settle.

At about 7yrs old each, they are both healthy enough to undergo fast kill heartworm injections which should lessen the damage the heartworm can do on their hearts & give them longer lives.

Since Norma Jean & Beth are being fostered in Indiana, they are not being seen by our normal vet, so we could really use some help with their vet bills which will be higher than normal, but these girls are worth it! 🐾💜

Welcome s***ky, cute, busy boy Toby! 😍🐾💙

Toby is about 8-10 months old & is your typical high energy busy beagle full of energy & ready to play! We believe he would do best with another high energy playmate who will appreciate his s***k & who can continue to teach him how to assimilate to house life.

Toby was found on the side if the road, presumably dropped off or left behind by a hunter. He can be scared of people at first, but once he knows you are his person, he will stick to you like glue. At night, when he is finally tired of play, he loves to cuddle up on his fosters lap for some TV time.

Toby is doing great with potty training, but has had a few accidents, but always by the back door. His foster is working on leash training as well, but his busy body prefers to have free run in the backyard.

Toby will chase cats, but only to play with them (he is all play, all the time). He has not been around children, but we believe due to his energy level & nervousness around new people, older kids would be best.

The HERO House, my mom & all the pups are safe after yesterday's tornado (which hit about a mile from the home). Prayers to all our neighbors thar were not as lucky. 🙏❤️

Sweet senior Willow is officially adopted & living her best life with her beagle sis & family! 🎉🐾💜

Willow's new family reached out after losing one of their beloved beagles hoping Willow could help them heal & be a companion to their senior beagle girl. Willow also needed a companion to help her continue to grow and gain confidence, so it was a match! 🥰

Last summer, Willow came to HERO as a emaciated, skittish but s***ky girl. Willow is now healthy, but can still be skittish and weary of new things, but with her new sis & family she is growing her confidence & settling in well to the good life!

A special thank you to her foster Lauren for commiting to Willow while at the shelter, for loving her, getting her healthy & preparing her for an amazing home! 🥰

Mari (aka Marigold 🌼) went for her 1 month checkup on Monday and the vet was shocked by how well she is doing....She’s gained 11.5 pounds 😳🎉🐾💜

Mariwas healthy enough to get her vaccinations & in another month we will discuss her spay (No hurry on that since she is in heat on moving day 😫).

Mari also started slow kill heartworm treatment since it’ll be months before we can do fast kill and she has a heavy load 💔.

Despite all her healthy issues, Mari is a sweet, happy girl that follows her foster mama everywhere & if she doesn’t get her way, she’ll let you know about it... LOUDLY 😂. She also bays when sirens go by 🚨…a low, slow howl 🥰. Mostly, she likes to nap especially next to Hank or Lady and explore the backyard.
