Codependency is the maladaptive narrative in our heads that tells us we are selfish for setting a boundary or wrong for being angry at someone who crossed a boundary or implies that it is best we seek approval and busy ourselves to the bones, taking care of others, even at the expense of ourselves.
Codependency is the result of growing up in a home that was unpredictable, chaotic, and emotionally oppressive and required submission. Codependents are known as the peacekeepers, those who die sacrificing their wants, needs, dreams, and goals for the sake of keeping others happy. We cry in silence and then feel ashamed of ourselves for wishing we could speak up or have a friend who genuinely cared about how we felt.
Codependents will compromise their values to keep others happy, calm, or out of trouble. We will also compromise ourselves to keep someone in our lives, even if this person is not someone we should be entertaining.
Until we awaken, and heal the lies we hear our subconscious mind telling us, we remain stuck on this wheel of karma, repeating our childhood survival patterns in adulthood, self sabotoging our chances of authenticity and sadly, unaware we are doing so at all.
