We are very happy to announce that the recovery operation is going great. We are about 80% up and running. Our employees have been working very hard with no power trying to open for our customers as soon as possible. We would like to thank those that have volunteered to help with clean up, providing meals for our crew and prayers that you have said for us. We appreciate each and every one of you. That being said, we are now accepting reservations for kenneling, grooming and play time. If you have any questions please call the office at 281-350-3732

Well, it's a start. We are not out of the woods yet. Centerpoint Energy has come out to see what they'll be dealing with. Since we have trees and lines down, it will take some time but the guys are working hard on getting everything back to normal.

As of right now: We are not able to do any grooming such as baths and nails. If you are needing supplies, just give us a call and we'll be happy to assist you over the phone.

Any boarding or current reservations, please call the office for more information.

Stay safe everyone! 🐾

This is Nova, at no fault of her own, needs a new home ASAP. Her original owner had a new baby and Nova was pretty stressed out in the environment so they rehomed her. The couple she was rehomed to has another GSD and multiple cats, and was told that Nova did well with cats, but after bringing her home, it was clear Nova did not do well at all with the cats. She did amazing with their other dog though. The original owners refused to take her back, despite Nova being gone only a day. Ideally, she needs a home with no cats and older kids. She is 1 1/2 years old, spayed, kennel trained, house broken and knows her basics. She is a happy go lucky goof ball, that loves playing, swimming and going places with her family. If you are interested in Nova, you can message us here and we will get you in contact with the couple who has her.

PUPDATE:
Lucy has a new home!

Needing a new home!!! Lucy is a 3 1/2 year old female out of R***r and Fay Petra. She has gone through advanced formal training and is very well behaved. Completely house broken, kennel trained, up to date on her shots and has been spayed. She is shy and can be guarded around new people (typical aloof GSD behavior), especially men and children, but warms up pretty quickly. She is noise sensitive and gets anxiety around thunder and fireworks but does well kenneled during them. She loves her ball and has a super bubbly personality. She is very much loved and her human is devastated having to rehome her. Unfortunately, the owner was called to be the live in caretaker of an ill family member who has sever allergies. There will be a rehoming fee from the owner of 200.00. Lucy will come with her kennel, toys, bowl and preventative medications. Please message us for owners contact information and to set up a meet and greet if you would like.

Good afternoon everyone,

We are announcing the hard decision to retire and close Heidelberg Kennels. We are hoping to remain open through Christmas but as of now we really have no idea what our last day will be. We will notify you when we have a better time frame. That being said, Wayne has put the property up for sale and you may see a For Sale Sign in the front in the next few days.

We are going to begin the slow process of phasing out our facility. We will not be breeding dogs anymore but we will continue our boarding and bathing until we have to turn the property over if we get a buyer.

It has been an experience of a lifetime to breed German Shepherds and bring happiness and security to families in our great state of Texas, all over the United States and even foreign countries. Heidelberg has been a go to place for great temperament and great beauty and gentleness that our dogs possess.

We have had life long relationships and friendships with clients for the past 50 years. It has been a pleasure hearing stories that parents, children and grandchildren have with dogs that we have bred and loving the breed enough to be a multi generation dog family.

It is time to step away from Heidelberg and continue with the next phase of our lives such as traveling, being with our families and enjoying retirement.

Please stop in and visit with us this next few months. Our plan is to give one more Christmas and New Year to our clients and have time to meet and see you and tell you that we will miss every one of you.

With the upcoming high temperatures here is an article and some safety tips as well as what to look for.

Make sure that:
*You don’t leave any pets in an unattended vehicle in the afternoon, even with the windows wind down and under a shade.
*They have access to cool, clean water at all times.
*Your pets have access to shade.
*They are not muzzled for an extended period when outdoors. If need be, loosen the muzzle.
*Refrain from strenuous activities during the late morning, afternoon and late afternoon.
*You give them sufficient rest in between activities. It’s easy to forget that while everybody’s having fun.
*Older pets or pets with a health condition should be given exercise during cooler periods of the day.

Symptoms of heatstroke:
*Excessive panting and salivating
*Disorientation
*Bright red gums and tongue. Gums will turn pale as shock sets in.
*Vomiting
*Diarrhea
*Weakness
*High heart rate

Treatment:
*Move to a shady area.
*Spray your dog down with cool water. Do not use cold water as this will constrict blood vessels, slow down blood flow, reduce heat dissipation from the body, and can even cause shock to the system from the sudden change in body temperature.
*Wet towels and shirts and place them between their groin and neck. Constantly wipe their paws and ears with a cool, wet towel. These areas accumulate and dissipate heat the most.
*Allow the dog to drink cool water bit by bit. Do not force feed, do not allow your dog to gulp, nor should ice-cold water be fed.
*If the condition seems to be improving, dry them with a towel to prevent their temperature from falling further and seek veterinary assistance immediately. It’s easy for pets to suffer from shock even when your pet might seem fine.

Tick season has arrived.

Ticks hate the smell of lemon, orange, cinnamon, lavender, peppermint, and rose geranium, cedarwood thyme,so they'll avoid latching on to anything that smells of those items. Any of these or a combination can be used in DIY sprays or added to almond oil and rubbed on exposed.

1 oz Any carrier oil such as Witch Hazel, almond oil or lotion.
7 drops Geranium.
4 drops Peppermint.
4 drops Thyme.
4 drops Cedarwood or Lavender.

Eucalyptus Oil. Not only is eucalyptus oil a tick killer, but it also makes for an effective repellent as well, and it's naturally safe and effective on the body. Mix with carrier oil. NOTE: Eucalyptus is toxic for dogs and cats.
Use caution when using any essential oil around pets.

Pets, A homemade spray solution of one part vinegar and one part water helps keep ticks and fleas away from your pets. Pour the solution in a spray bottle and spray directly onto your pets, but be careful not to get it in their eyes.
