1. Keep candy out of reach – chocolate and xylitol are toxic!
2. Be cautious with costumes – only if they’re comfy and safe!
3. Limit outdoor time to avoid stress.
4. Secure decorations – avoid candles and cords within reach.
5. Provide a quiet space to retreat from doorbell chaos.

🇺🇸 In remembrance of all who lost their lives on 9/11/2001, and in honor of the first responders and rescuers—both human and animal—who selflessly gave their time, and in some cases, their lives, to help others.
This is just one story of a local hero dog, who served in the aftermath of 9/11.

Bretagne was a Golden Retriever and one of the heroic search and rescue dogs who worked tirelessly at Ground Zero following the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. She was deployed as part of Texas Task Force 1, a Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) task force, along with her handler, Denise Corliss. Bretagne was just two years old at the time of the 9/11 attacks, and it was her first deployment as a search and rescue dog.

For ten days, Bretagne searched through the rubble of the World Trade Center, working to locate survivors and human remains. While the recovery efforts were physically and emotionally exhausting, Bretagne’s presence also brought comfort to first responders, many of whom took solace in petting her during their breaks.

After her work at Ground Zero, Bretagne continued to serve in search and rescue missions during natural disasters, such as Hurricane Katrina, Hurricane Rita, and Hurricane Ivan. She retired from active duty at the age of nine but continued to serve her community in Cypress, Texas as a therapy dog, visiting schools and helping children learn to read.

Bretagne passed away in 2016 at the age of 16. Her passing was marked with a special tribute, where she was given a hero’s farewell, including a salute from firefighters as she entered the veterinarian’s office for the last time. Bretagne is remembered as one of the last surviving 9/11 search and rescue dogs and a symbol of dedication, courage, and service. 🇺🇸🐾

Veterinary Myth: It’s often said that dogs' mouths are cleaner than ours, but the truth is they have their own share of bacteria, just like we do. Over time, this can lead to serious dental issues. This sweet pup came in with a lot of buildup and dental disease, but after a thorough cleaning and a few extractions, he's feeling so much better! 🐾 We love helping your pets live healthier, happier lives. Give us a call to schedule your pet's exam and discuss their dental health! 🦷🐶🩺

“I was born in the Philippines but grew up in Wichita, KS. My love for animals started at a young age, and I've had many pets throughout my life. This passion led me to become an advocate for animals who cannot advocate for themselves.

I attended Kansas State University—go Wildcats! My enthusiasm for surgery played a significant role in making it through vet school.

Currently, I have a diverse group of pets: three cats named Bastet, Freyja, and Lucifer; a leopard gecko named Mikasa; a chameleon named Matcha; and a tarantula named Gwen.

Traveling is a favorite hobby of mine, primarily because I enjoy trying different kinds of foods from various places—I'm a foodie at heart, with sights being a secondary interest. An interesting fact about me, I can solve a Rubik's cube in an average of 25 seconds, with my fastest solve being 12 seconds.”
