Salazar came to us when a small feral colony of cats was shot by an evil neighbor. Salazar was the only one of the colony that was not shot. He started off here as a feral boy, but when we moved him into the main area, he quickly socialized and is now very friendly. He loves to headbutt the other cats off the counter or out of the way so he can get to the people for attention.

Rose Tyler is a wibbly-wobbly girl who has moderate Cerebellar Hypoplasia. She came to us from a TNR situation. We fell in love with her indomitable spirit. She just turned 8 years old and is absolutely thriving. She lives in our bedroom where she gets tons of attention and is safe from falling down the stairs. Nothing slows her down though. She may fall over a lot, but she can climb a cat tree like crazy and actually backs herself down off of it so she doesn't fall! Cats are so smart!

Princess Peach had an owner who had her declawed. She suffers from residual pain in her feet after that traumatic experience. She started biting in defense, and her owner brought her to the vet to be euthanized. The vet reached out to us and asked if we would take her. We said absolutely and the owner signed her over. She is on pain medication twice daily and is doing well. She can still have a temper, but she doesn't break skin anymore.

Pico de Gato is mobility-challenged and terribly incontinent. He can mostly manage his bladder but his bowels leak constantly. He leaves a mess pretty much everywhere he goes. He hops like a bunny with his back legs. He is absolutely the friendliest boy here, however, greeting everyone who comes in the door.

Caduceus is one of our personal pets. He is an attention-loving, face-licking goofball of a cat! He loves to jump on your shoulder and ride around. I have to warn everyone who comes here because he will jump up on anyone!

Pete is a senior, FIV+ boy. We believe he also has the herpes virus since he has a constant runny eye. He is not much for attention, but does allow pets. He just doesn't ever seek people out. I believe he would blossom in a forever home. If you might be interested, please send me a message! FIV+ cats can live alongside FIV- cats with no issues.

It is almost impossible to get a photo of Sparky actually looking at the camera. I have to do it from a distance or he just looks away! Sparky is fully-mobile, but due to some sort of bite trauma as a kitten, he does not have full control over his bowels, and needs his bladder expressed regularly. He fits right in here at the Commune!

I posted about Minerva awhile back with an older photo. This is what she looks like now. Her right third eyelid is permanently exposed. If you look closely, you can see a little divot on the edge that we believe was due to trauma of some kind. It doesn't slow her down at all, it is just a bit unpleasant to look at.

Mr. Chibbs is an attention-loving senior boy! He came from a vet in New Braunfels who was going to put him down when he came up diabetic. By the time we got him, he had become normal again (something really cool that cats can do). He lives here now, but we would love for him to find his own home. If you might be interested, just message me!

OB1 was born in a feral colony that we were working to TNR. He and his siblings were so covered in fleas and anemic that we could not leave them where they were. We trapped the mama and let her raise the kittens here at the sanctuary. When they were weaned, she went back to her colony and the kittens stayed here. Unfortunately we were unable to handle them while she was raising them. She would lash out. All 3 grew up to be semi-feral. The other two have since passed on, but OB1 remains. He allows pets at times, when he is standing in one of two specific locations. Otherwise he runs from us. Like everyone else here, he gets to live life on his terms.

Nerissa came to us as part of a small feral colony of 6 that was well cared for in their neighborhood. Unfortunately, a neighbor did not like the cats, and Nerissa was one of the 5 that he shot. She lost her left front leg due to his cruelty. One of the 5 shot had to be euthanized, but all of the remaining cats came to live here. She is truly feral. She will not allow humans anywhere near her. That's okay here, though. They all get to live life on their own terms. She is safe and happy.

Copper's Cat Commune is a nonprofit cat sanctuary dedicated to the lifetime care of a limited population of ill, disabled, or otherwise adoption challenged cats as well as the promotion of TNR programs and feline behavioral therapy. Aries is a special boy who won so many hearts as he fought for life in 2015 when he was just 6 weeks old. His indomitable spirit and unceasing joy quickly made him the front man...er...cat of the Commune. His life was on the line again in 2018 and the #AriesArmy was born. We care for between 80 and 90 cats at any given time. Follow their stories, trials, and tribulations here and on Instagram @Copperscatcommune. Thank you for your support!!
