Meet Athena, our newest hero! 🐾 This gorgeous girl just completed her first blood donation at the Animal Blood Bank of Arkansas, and she went above and beyond!

Thanks to her incredible donation, Athena provided two bags of 125mL of packed red blood cells (PRBCs) and 120 mL of plasma. These lifesaving components will help pets in critical need, giving them a second chance.

Advanced liver disease can affect both dogs and cats, reducing their ability to produce vital proteins and clotting factors, which can lead to bleeding issues and low protein levels. Plasma transfusions offer critical support by providing:
• Clotting Factors 🩸 to reduce bleeding risks in both felines and canines.
• Protein Support 💪 to help stabilize blood pressure and fluid balance.
• Temporary Liver Support 🛠️ to assist with recovery until other treatments take effect.

Zivah was an absolute superstar during her donation today! She generously gave 458ml of whole blood, which was expertly separated into 350ml of packed red blood cells (PRBCs) and 280ml of fresh frozen plasma (FFP). Just one donation like this can go on to help up to five pets in need—a true gift of life!

Each donor receives their very own hero card to showcase their superpowers, just like Myles & Crabie. These heroes make a difference in the lives of pets across our community, and they deserve to be celebrated! ❤️

Think your pet has what it takes to be a hero? We’re always looking for new blood donors to join our mission! If your pet meets the donor requirements, they could become part of our life-saving team. Here’s what our pet donors receive:

Did you know that cats have two primary blood types, A and B? While type A is more common, type B is incredibly rare—especially in our area! This makes finding type B blood products a challenging task.

We’re so grateful for our newest blood donor, Tolstoy, and his owner Zoe for their invaluable contribution to our blood bank program. Without Tolstoy’s donation, we wouldn’t have had the necessary blood available for a critically ill cat in need.

Please help us by encouraging cat owners to participate in this life-saving program. If your cat qualifies, there are many benefits, including free yearly screenings and preventatives. Let’s work together to save more lives! ❤️
