The Reality of 30 Days of Training With Horses:

After 30 days of training: The horse is well-settled into a work routine that includes standing tied calmly, grooming, bathing/farrier, being saddled, loading and unloading, being bridled and being ridden at all three gaits (walk, trot and canter), BUT the horse is still VERY green, could be waspy/jumpy (not always if you have a very good minded horse that is naturally chill), and may still require manual steering (direct reining).

In our program we expose all our clients horse to everything we can and do what we can to set them up to be safe when they go home to be finished by their owners. But we also know and the owner should know that 30 days isn’t a LOT and they should remain consistent with their horse once it goes home. We also welcome the owners out anytime during training to be involved. We encourage it but understand not everybody has the time and that is a-okay ❤️ we provide plenty of updates for those who can’t come participate. A good trainer will keep you updated on EVERYTHING with your horse. Good or bad. We also provide help from afar if we can, say you get your horse home from our program and feel stuck…message us anytime! We will get on a video call and help you work through it!

A lot of people hire a trainer for 30 days with the expectation that when they pick their horse back up that they will have a one hand broke reiner that side passes, neck reins, spins a hole in the ground, is bomb proof, and won’t ever potentially act out. The reality is 30 days isn’t much, especially if you bring a horse in that has barely ever worn a saddle. We have to spend time on preparing them to carry a rider and we want EVERYONE safe….the horse and their rider/handler.

Now if you’re bringing in a super flighty, hard to catch horse with ill manners….those expectations definitely need to be set a bit lower. Because most of that 30 days will be spend on ground work and less with any kind of riding. With our program we never just “buck one out” and climb on. All our training is ethical and we never use harsh methods. And some horses no matter how hard you try, still are reactive even after 30 days, but that’s not from lack of daily work. Some horses are just a bit more challenging. Just like with people, each horse is different ☺️

Now I understand that 30 days is all people can afford sometimes and that is perfectly fine. Just know hiring your trainer for only 30 days you can’t expect a miracle. But your trainer will do their best ❤️

From ripping his feet out of your hand and skedaddling away without cares of running someone over (myself and my husband have been ran over by him at least once)….to standing patiently to have all 4 feet trimmed up ❤️

Still working through some nervousness. He’s been here a few weeks and has indeed been a little challenging lol. He is a little better about being caught. He doesn’t run as much and will face up to you now and lets you catch him easier than before.

He’s just a shy nervous boy who needs a gentle but firm hand and lots of one on one. He enjoys when you just spend time with him in his space. He has very good owners who I know will give him what he needs when he goes back home to keep making progress. Until then we will continue the daily handling and catch/release game.

I’m not a HUGE one on treats but they definitely win him over lol. We use them with him so he has started associating good things with the halter when he sees it. He touches the halter with his nose he gets it put on and gets an alfalfa cube. Walk him around a bit and let him go. ❤️

Hey yall!

We have a very kind client who is retired and needing to place his sweet babies. Both seniors. The paint gelding is broke to ride but hasn’t been rode in awhile. The mule is also broke but can’t be ridden anymore due to a foot issue. He has to be trimmed every 6wks a certain way or he’s lame.

We are helping him place them in only the best home. He’d prefer to keep them together as they are bonded. They are located in Springer.

❤️ If interested reach out to me and I can get you in contact. No traders or flippers. This is a forever home type situation. ❤️

Epona and I had a really great ride yesterday evening ❤️ getting her back into shape. She enjoyed doing a little walk/trot pole bending and we worked on neck reining (she had started to learn it before she left us last time) and also standing stopped. She stops good but doesn’t like staying stopped haha. I think she will make a great barrel and pole bending horse in time

I’m so incredibly happy we had the opportunity to get her back.

We switched alfalfa cube dealers and as much as we liked McCracken, we’d noticed their quality and smell has gone down the last couple loads. And for us that’s a big deal as we feed the best we can find to our clients horses as well as our personal.

The new cubes are on the left the old on the right. We noticed right away the smell was way better as was the color and how they broke apart.

We now buy from SG Equine Services in Purcell ❤️ they are such friendly people and we really enjoyed chatting after loading up our pallet load. We will definitely keep buying from them!

Epona (Aye Fancey) is filling out so nicely! She got a bath this evening too (last 2 pics she’s all clean) ❤️

Poor girl sweats so much when it’s so hot or humid so she’s bathed weekly to prevent any skin irritations caused by the sweat dirt and fly spray

Mr “Horse” our client Adam’s horse is doing really good with his feet now. Still doesn’t like being caught but we’re working on it. This evening he was a punk and ran from me lol. So he got to move his feet then when he let me catch him he got his feet cleaned out and messed with and spent some time tied while I did waters and got him more hay

Do you ever feel like you’re being watched? 😂

Good evening everyone! We truly dislike having to make posts like this, but:

It’s been brought to our attention by several people that they have recently been receiving messages and comments defaming and slandering our business and personal character. We currently are working with proper authorities regarding this matter and have been for a bit and are saddened that somebody would stoop to those levels.

If you are a current or prospective client and receive these messages please be sure to research the source in which it comes from. A name search on fb can reveal a lot.

We will ALWAYS maintain a high level of professionalism and kindness. And as always we are very grateful to all our clients for trusting us with your horses ❤️

This gelding is making good progress. We couldn’t even trim his back feet at his last appointment, which is why his owners hired us lol. He was very anxious and would charge forward when his back feet were touched or he’d dart sideways and pull away hard and run. This was after an hour of gentle work with his back feet. He’s loosely tied as I had no one available to hold him. So he is also learning to stand good without needing a handler. I love the smart ones ❤️

This dude and I had a good morning today. Worked on lunging, some desensitizing and his front feet. His back feet will be a project as he’s VERY nervous around his back legs with hands, you can touch all over them with a flag or lunge whip (using it as an extension of my arm) but when a person goes back to lift them he panics. He’s a very good boy though.

Unlike humans, horses are designed to run on a full stomach. Feeding your horse 2-3L of chaff or a biscuit of hay prior to exercise has two benefits :
1️⃣ The chaff will form a ball of feed in the stomach, which will help prevent acid from splashing up from the lower part of the stomach to cause gastric ulcers.
2️⃣ Blood is normally diverted away from the stomach during exercise, which reduces some of its normal protective mechanisms. Research has shown that feeding your horse before exercise actually reduces the amount of blood that is shunted away from the stomach and also increases the amount of blood delivered to the skeletal muscles and muscles of the chest. So not only are you helping to protect the stomach, you also might be improving your horse’s performance.
