Mud was kinda deep around the edges so stuck to just doing riding work in the middle today. He did get lunged through it...

Mud was kinda deep around the edges so stuck to just doing riding work in the middle today. He did get lunged through it though lol. A normal sized horse I’d have rode them through it but Oscar is a short pony. And while I’m not too big for him he’s still young (just pushing 3 based off teeth) and has only had a handful of rides and is still learning to balance a rider so didn’t push that today.

Thankful for the round pen large ❤️

Here’s a good example of a horse who is not cold in the snow.

We don’t have a blanket to fit him but that’s okay because Oscar is nice and warm….how can we tell? He has no snow melting on his body and it just keeps collecting. If the snow wasn’t sticking and staying and it was melting away it would mean he was losing body heat through his coat and in that case we would stall him instead of allowing free access to his pen too.

Of course he has open access to a warm stall with shavings a heated water bucket and his hay should he choose to go on outta this. But as long as he stays holding his body heat he won’t have to be stalled.

It may be cold but horses still need their feet trimmed 🙂 We have room on the farrier books to add a few more people who...

Oscar pony had his first ground driving session and he did really good! Started in the round pen and then moved out to the riding area. He was calm and turned so soft (we’ve done LOTS of flexing lol). He weaved the poles and did figure 8s and his stop is okay but needs a little work.

He’s a smart pony and should get to ride soon. We like to ground drive for a bit and work groundwork a few weeks so they are prepared for everything (turning stopping backing) when they finally take a rider.

Well yesterday was eventful for our client pony Oscar lol. Goes to show you can prepare them all you can to move out with a saddle and they can still buck. However he did very good the second time around. He is very smart and you can see the wheels turning in his noggin. He is nowhere near ready to ride yet as he needs much more ground work under saddle but I truly don’t see him doing any of this again

Oscar got his first session in lifting and cleaning feet with me this evening and he did really well

Epona is off on a new adventure with a very dear friend of ours…they are leasing her and may in time buy her. They own a boarding and lesson barn an hour from us and were looking for another lesson and show horse. Epona fit the bill! This is 5min after an hr long trailer ride and first time ridden English. She will be showing, jumping, and giving kids lessons! Shes such a good mare!
