Poor sportsmanship has become a issue, unfortunately, in the agility community. So what is it? For our sport I believe it has several components. 1. Being disrespectful to the judge, trial committee and other competitors. Verbally disagreeing with a judges call. When you agree to compete, you need to accept that for the event you are competing in, the judge has the final word, period. Accept and move on.
Complaining how a trial is managed. This is so detrimental to those that have volunteered to take the responsibility and the tasks to have agility trials. If you cannot help but complain do not go. It is so easy to find fault be kind.
Competitors that complain about another competitor celebrating their run. Yep I’ve seen it. Competitors that admonish the workers in the ring, that’s not your job, don’t do it. Again, be kind.
2. Blaming your dog or the judge for you not Qing. When you walk the course you know what the challenges that are going to confront you. Do your best and don’t blame the judge or your dog. You trained your dog so blame yourself. You either did not train it long enough or correctly. NEVER blame the dog, look in the mirror. The judge is human! They are doing their best to be fair and accurate. Again, be kind and respectful!
There are other examples but these are the ones that stand out for me.
