UPDATE- Thank you all so much! Shaman has sold to one of our students & will stay right here!!

🌟Registered Paint Gelding – 18 Years Young 🌟

Offered for your consideration: our homebred, family-raised 18-year-old registered Paint gelding. He has been with us since the day he was born, sound, sane, and in great shape. Currently worked 3–5 days a week, he has always been healthy and well cared for.

✔️ Experience: He’s a steady, reliable mount who takes part in our public trail rides each week and has been a cornerstone in our lesson & camp program. Safe on the trail for any rider—he’ll lead, follow, or be the caboose with complete beginners without fuss. Absolutely no buck, rear, kick, or bolting.

✔️ Training: Neck reins, moves off the leg, picks up his leads. He also had 90 days with a professional reining training about 6 years ago and has been consistently handled and ridden by our family and students since.

✔️ Best Match: While he’s beginner-safe on the trails, he does appreciate a fair, soft-handed rider in the arena. He’s sensitive and willing but won’t thrive with someone heavy-handed or confusing. Again no meanness to him at all!

✔️ Care: UTD on all vet/farrier/dental. Regular chiropractic when needed. Barefoot and trimmed every 6 weeks. He has been leased and adored by several students over the years but shines most when he has one person to dote on him.

We are simply reducing our numbers and searching for the right partner who will enjoy and love him as much as we do. The best fit for him is most important to us and references will be required.

Why Herd Living Matters for Horses

Horses are herd animals by nature. Their physical health, mental well-being, and emotional balance all improve when they are allowed to live in a group setting.

Key benefits of herd living:
• Safety & Security – In a herd, horses share the responsibility of watching for danger. This lowers stress levels and helps them feel safe.
• Social Development – Young horses learn important skills such as respect, communication, and boundaries by interacting with older, more experienced horses.
• Emotional Health – Horses are deeply social beings. Companionship prevents loneliness, lowers stress, and even reduces behavioral problems.
• Natural Movement – Herd living encourages daily exercise, play, and freedom of choice, which supports joint health, digestion, and overall fitness.

One of the most remarkable aspects of herd life is the lifelong bond between mares and their foals. Even as foals grow into adulthood, many mares maintain a special relationship with them. Watching a mare and her grown foal still share affection and companionship is a powerful reminder: horses have emotional connections every bit as real as our own.

Family owned since 1958, in a Beautiful location near the Sangamon River. Tom & Connie Mulcahy have built a wonderful place to relax and watch nature, and enjoy the great outdoors. We have bred and raised 16 foals of our own, here at Riverside Stables, most still used for Trail Rides, Riding Lessons, Horse Camp, Birthday Parties, Field Trips, etc. We have a marvelous 5 star horse facility. What ever your horsemanship needs, whether you are a first time rider looking for a scenic trail ride along the gorgeous Sangamon River, or a horse lover wanting to take lessons, or an experienced rider searching for a great place to board your horse, we are here to help. We also offer Canoe/Kayak Rentals. We have amazing facilities for any occasion, Private Parties, Family Reunions, Field Trips, Church Groups, Scouts, or whatever, looking for something new and exciting, we offer an excellent place for anyone to make exceptional memories.
