Happy 4th of July from all of us at the barn — including Rocky, who’s proudly painted in red, white, and blue.

We’re thankful for our freedom and feel truly blessed to do what we love every day, surrounded by horses and an incredible community.

Tonight, we’ll be watching the fireworks pasture-side with our herd — a peaceful way to end a day full of gratitude. ❤️🤍💙

Looking for a fun way to enjoy the holiday week? We’ve got a few trail ride spots open—perfect for beginners, families, and first-timers!

📅 (tomorrow) Wednesday, July 2nd at 12PM
📅 Saturday, July 5th at 9AM & 11AM

• Slow-paced, walking-only rides
• Weight limit: 250 lbs
• $75 per rider
• Riders aged 9 & under will ride double or be tethered with a guide

🐴 Our kind, well-cared-for horses make the experience extra special.

Our rides are beginner-friendly, slow-paced, and perfect for all ages. Whether it’s your first time or you’ve been riding for years, we’ll make sure you’re confident and ready before we head out

Looking for a peaceful start to your Saturday? We’ve got a few spots left for trail rides at 9AM and 11AM—come enjoy the fresh air and countryside before the heat sets in!

Never ridden before? No problem.
Our rides are slow-paced, beginner-friendly, and led by kind, gentle horses. Whether you’re brand new or just haven’t ridden in a while, we’ll get you comfortable in the saddle before we head out.

Around here, our horses come first—they’re well loved, well cared for, and truly the heart of what we do.

☀️Session 3 - Horse Camp Highlights! ☀️
What a week! We had such a fun, joyful group of campers—many returning faces and a few brand-new ones. It’s always a joy to watch our students grow in knowledge, confidence, and connection with the horses they love.

Just look at these smiles! The happiness and pure enjoyment shine through in every photo.

We also want to give a special shoutout to the real stars of camp—our incredible horses. Some of them have been teaching and loving kids here for decades! 💛 Classy is 29 this year, Faith is 28, Millie is 25, Nile is 22, and sweet Spice is 23 - just to name a few! Many of these trusted horses are second-generation, raised right here at our barn. We’re so proud of their legacy and the heart they bring to every lesson.

👢🐴 Farrier Day at Camp! 🐴👢

Today was a special day—our farrier came out to trim and check all of our horses! We keep everyone on a 5-week schedule to make sure their hooves stay balanced, healthy, and sound—from our tiniest Mini to our biggest Draft, playful foals to wise retirees.

Most of our horses go barefoot with regular trims, but some do require corrective or supportive shoeing—and we’re so thankful to have Steve Sermersheim caring for them with such skill and experience.

It’s just as important to have a great sports medicine vet working hand-in-hand with our farrier. With the help of X-rays and expert evaluations, we make sure our horses stay as comfortable and sound as possible, especially those with special needs or unique hoof challenges.

It was also a learning day for our campers! They got to watch, ask questions, and learn more about how we care for our horses from the ground up—literally!

🧲 Farrier Facts:
• A horse’s hoof grows about 1/4 inch per month.
• Just like fingernails, hooves need regular trimming to stay healthy.
• Balanced hooves help horses move comfortably and prevent injuries.
• Our farrier checks for thrush, cracks, and imbalances at every visit.
• Proper trimming or shoeing can improve posture, comfort, and movement.

We’re so grateful for the amazing care our herd receives—and proud of our campers for jumping in and learning right alongside us!

~ Welcome to Horse Camp 2025! ~
We kicked off the summer with a fantastic group of eager young riders—and what an incredible first week it’s been! Campers had fun, learned so much, and experienced the unique peace and joy that only time with horses can bring.

We couldn’t do it without our amazing horses—our true teachers and partners in every session. Most of these beloved animals have been part of our Riverside family for over 20 years, patiently guiding new generations of horse lovers.

A huge thank-you also goes out to our incredible staff. Many of them grew up here at Riverside, and their deep connection to this place shines through in everything they do. We’re so lucky to have such a devoted, caring team leading the way. Their passion, experience, and heart make this camp such a special place.

*Separate Adult and Youth classes*

We’re thrilled to welcome new students to our upcoming 12-week group lesson session, beginning next week!

This program offers a well-rounded introduction to horsemanship in a supportive group setting, with a focus on:
- Groundwork
- Riding skills
- Horse care and barn responsibilities

It’s a great opportunity to build confidence, knowledge, and hands-on experience with horses in a fun, encouraging environment.

The weather forecast is lookin’ fantastic for tomorrow, and there’s no better way to enjoy it than on horseback.
We’ve got guided trail rides going out this Saturday—and a few spots still open!

Never ridden before? No problem. Our trail rides are beginner-friendly, family-friendly, and just plain fun. You’ll get a quick intro before we head out for a peaceful one-hour ride through some of the prettiest trails in Springfield.

Here’s what you need to know:
