We’re now booking rides during the week of Christmas & New Year’s (not on the holidays themselves). With gorgeous weather and peaceful scenery, it’s the perfect time for a relaxing horseback ride!

✨ Details:
• $75 per person
• 1-hour guided ride
• 250 lb weight limit
• Adults & children welcome
• No experience necessary
• Appointment only

Why Rolling Is Good for Horses

Rolling isn’t just playful behavior — it serves an important purpose for a horse’s physical and mental well-being. When horses roll, they are stretching their backs and spines, loosening muscles, relieving pressure, and scratching areas they can’t easily reach on their own. Rolling also helps redistribute natural oils in the coat and can provide relief from minor skin irritation.

Just as important, rolling is a sign of comfort. A horse that feels safe and relaxed in its environment is much more likely to roll.

Whether it’s winter or summer, we make sure our horses have a safe place to roll and reset. During the colder months, some enjoy rolling in indoor sand for a different feel, while others prefer the softness of straw outside — both provide valuable comfort and enrichment.

Snow doesn’t stop horses from being horses ❄️
Movement, forage, and herd life — from under 1 to almost 30.
Boys being boys… a little eating, a little resting, a little goofing off 🐎 They just love each other! 😭❤️
Though they should probably work on their rear — the mini and pony can get way higher haha.

Someone asked why four of our herd don’t wear blankets… here’s why!

We brought these baby Clydes & Drum horse in from their lovely pasture for this video—super thick, fluffy coats that keep them warm naturally, even in a snowstorm and temps as low as -30°F! ❄️💨

Unlimited hay + freedom to move + friends to play with = cozy, dry, happy horses 🐴💖

Our older or rideable horses get blankets to stay comfy and active. Every horse is cared for in the way that makes them happiest ❤️

Healthy, happy horses thrive with the right care!

We have bred and raised 16 foals of our own, here at Riverside Stables, most still used for Trail Rides, Riding Lessons, Horse Camp, Birthday Parties, Field Trips, etc. We have a marvelous 5 star horse facility. What ever your horsemanship needs, whether you are a first time rider looking for a scenic trail ride along the gorgeous Sangamon River, or a horse lover wanting to take lessons, or an experienced rider searching for a great place to board your horse, we are here to help. We also offer Canoe/Kayak Rentals. We have amazing facilities for any occasion, Private Parties, Family Reunions, Field Trips, Church Groups, Scouts, or whatever, looking for something new and exciting, we offer an excellent place for anyone to make exceptional memories.
