Why the goggles??

Asked a few times, even from other handlers- this is Medusa wearing Rex Specs for the second time in her life. We’re getting her used to it at her pace, it’s very beneficial for our working dogs to wear Rex specs.

Why do we?
To prevent things in their eyes, when on trails “fox tails” can easily get into their eyes and be bad for the dog and your wallet. In some cases, Myah and Medusa along with our future service dogs will also wear goggles for their safety. Helps keep people from poking them in the face and even helps with sun rays from harming the dogs eyes.

In the end we use Goggles for our dog’s safety, it’s a long process to get your dog used to the goggles and comfortable but when done right it’s just another safety measure.

Did you know, that as you’re socializing your puppy or dog they don’t have to say hi to every person or dog!

A properly solcialized dog is not gonna wanna interact with everyone and is actually gonna be neutral with their surroundings.

Pet dogs or working dogs need to be neutral with their surroundings to be well mannered dogs !

Two tasks we’ve been working on and why I need them

Video one: item retrieval
During a bad mobility day or when a migraine attack comes. I might need my service dog to retrieve an item that might be pain meds or a drink. This is helpful for many reasons and is a fun and semi easy thing to train
She needs more work on this one, but is doing good with the foundation of this task. The goal is to have her grab the item asked for then have her come right back and sit til I take the item and release her

Video two: holding item
This is a very helpful task, now yes I trained item holding at first just for pics of her holding things. But as things moved and she became my service dog she now is learning to hold items for longer periods while she walks. This is useful for it the item has a texture things for myself or if I’m overwhelmed (due to autism being overwhelmed I can feel my limbs too much so holding things can be difficult)
She’s doing wonderful with this task, but we’re working on duration of holding an item and on different items
