APL Petunias for Moms & Pets!

This Mother’s Day, give your mom (or yourself!) a gorgeous hanging basket of vibrant petunias from Wolf Creek Farms.

For just $15, you can brighten her day with a beautiful 10" hanging basket of Petunias or Petunia Wave flowers in a variety of stunning colors like blue, red, white, burgundy star, violet, yellow, evening scentsation, burgundy picotee, supreme raspberry ice, shock wave tie dye, and silver.

Not only will you be giving a beautiful gift, but you’ll also be helping the sick, injured and homeless dogs and cats in APL’s care with each purchase.

Pickup: Friday, May 9th & Saturday, May 10th from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the shelter (1001 Taintor Rd, Springfield, IL 62702).

Your order guarantees a basket of flowers, but not a color selection. Choose your basket at pickup. Come early for the best selection of colors!

To all of our amazing APL volunteers—thank you from the bottom of our paws! Whether you’re walking dogs, cuddling cats, folding laundry, making blankets, helping at events, or lending a hand wherever it’s needed, you are the heart of APL. Your time, energy, and love make a world of difference for the animals in our care, and we’re endlessly grateful for everything you do. We truly couldn’t do this without you, and we’re so lucky to have such a kind, dedicated, and downright awesome group of people on our team. You rock—and so do your fur-covered clothes!

At APL, we've lost dozens and dozens of cats to FIP over the years, and staff, fosters, volunteers, and adopters alike have shed countless tears over the felines we lost. Adult cats, kittens, and senior kitties were all victims of the heartbreaking disease. Thanks to recent advances in treatment, we now have an affordable, reliable treatment for the once-terminal condition. And Jenny is our first survivor! Way to go Jenny!

Help us thank the efforts of the 2024 Pawnee Prairie Days Queens who organized and held their own 5K walk for the animals at APL. They collected many food donations and raised nearly $300! Their efforts to support their community is to be celebrated! Great job young ladies!

Celebrate the spirit of Aloha and test your knowledge at APL’s Spring “Lilo & Stitch” Trivia Night, Friday, May 16th @ the Columbian Grand Hall ( 2200 S. Meadowbrook Rd., Springfield IL). Doors open at 6pm, and trivia starts at 7pm. Gather your hoaloha (friends) and ohana (family) to compete in 10 rounds of general trivia with one special round of trivia dedicated to the beloved film “Lilo & Stitch” and other classic Disney films. Each member of the winning table of the special round will receive a delectable basket courtesy of Pease’s at Bunn Gourmet. There will be a 50/50 drawing, and Silent Auction and Door Prizes. Each person in attendance will receive 3 free raffle tickets but if you bring dog/cat food you can earn up to 20 more tickets! Calling All Young Animal Lovers! Applications are NOW OPEN for APL’s 2025 Junior Volunteer Program!

If your child is 12–15 years old and passionate about helping animals, this is the perfect summer opportunity!

Program Dates: June 24 – July 18
Location: Animal Protective League, Springfield, IL
Volunteers attend 2 days/week (Tues–Fri, 8:30am–12:30pm)
Submit an art or essay project with your application!
$95 program fee (financial aid available!)
Application Deadline: May 1
Apply early—space is limited to 30–40 kids!

Lace up your running shoes or just a have a Mel-O-Cream donut in preparation of APAPL's Donuts and Dogs 5K Fun Runn Saturday, June 7th at Southwind Park!!!

The competitive 5K run ( dogs allowed!) starts at 10am, while the more leisurely Fun Run is at 11am.

There will be a Pet/Owner Costume contest with prizes at 9:30am. All ages are welcome!

Awards will given for the top male and female adult and youth runners as well as the top dog in the competitive 5K.

ALL participants will be fed free donuts from Mel-O-Cream!

Register by midnight, May 20th to receive your complimentary race t-shirt whether you are running in the 5K, walking in the Fun Run, or if you are a Cat Napper ( sit at home, but still supporting)!

Donation Drop Off Days for APL's Upscale Sale 2025 (May 2-4th) are as follows (all drop offs at 1774 Wabash sale location ONLY)

- Tuesday, April 29th 11am-6pm

This is the Chatham Square Shopping Center. Pull up to the door for drop offs. APL volunteers will assist you. Tax receipts are available upon request.

Please donate your good-quality items including, but not limited to: housewares, tools, sporting goods, jewelry, furniture, linens, toys, pet supplies, seasonal decor, flowers and baskets, antiques, crafts, beauty and medical, linens, and children clothes.

You probably know people have to train before running a 5K, but did you know dogs need to train, too? They may be great runners, but they still have to work on endurance and commands before entering an official race.
