Holiday hazards for your pets
Holiday decorations and trees can be dangerous for you pet. Ribbon, yarns and string can catch the eye of your pet. The shiny tinsel on your tree is very attractive to pets and if ingested it can cause blockages. Tree needles can be toxic and cause mouth and stomach irritation. Even needles and the wire of artificial trees could pose a problem. Be sure your pet is not chewing on branches or eating fallen needles. If you have a live tree try to be careful of the water. The water in the tree stand often harbors potentially harmful bacteria. Fertilizers, insecticides, or flame retardants that were used on the tree may also get into the water. Cover the stand with a tree skirt or use other means to prevent access to the water.Additionally, there are common holiday and household plants that are dangerous and poisonous for your pet. The poinsettia plant, mistletoe, holly, lilies and daffodils are all toxic for your furry friend. Monitor your pet's interest in theses plants. Super easy and healthy 3 ingredient pupsicles!Melt half a cup of organic coconut oil and pour into the bottom of silicone molds. Place in freezer. Meanwhile- mix half a cup of blueberries with 3/4 cup of organic goat’s milk in a blender-Pour on top of frozen coconut oil and freeze for 2 or 3 hours. Here’s how you can make a delicious inexpensive treat that your dogs will absolutely love! First pour some bone broth into a pan. Heat your stove on medium.Add your carrots. You can cut them up or just put them in whole.Cook for about 5 to 10minutes depending on the size of your carrots and stir occasionally. You want the carrots a little soft, but not overcooked. It’s Find A Home Friday and Dash has been waiting for a family for nearly 400 days … more than ONE WHOLE YEAR IN THE SHELTER. 💔 Please help us find him the right family -- share, share, share!Dash is a great dog. And we know he can thrive in the right environment. Dash is housetrained, crate trained, clicker trained, and walks incredibly well on a leash. He loves to play with toys and will nudge you to get you to engage in tug-of-war. He’s cuddly, cute and charismatic. So why has he been here so long? Dash needs to be an only dog and is dog reactive, which can be harder to manage in a population dense area like the DMV. He would not thrive in an apartment, condo or townhouse. He would be most comfortable in a single-family home where he can go on walks without running into tons of dogs. His reactivity can be managed, and our Behavior and Training team has worked diligently with him to reduce it. We also think he would do best with older kids or no kids in the home. Dash’s new family will receive ongoing support from our Behavior and Training team, a year’s supply of free food and a shopping spree courtesy Pampered Pet Boutique Barkery, a $250 gift card to Sniffspots (for private dog parks where Dash can run), and a standard behavior modification coaching package (valued at $750) with a local positive reinforcement dog trainer. His adoption fee has also been waived.
