Consider adopting a black cat. Take photos of your black cat, too! Support your local shelters and volunteer. You can groom a black cat (or any cat for that matter), give him cuddles, and maybe even take one home. Got a black cat? Share a photo! ❤️
August 15th is National Check the Chip Day.
Today is a reminder to make sure your pet’s microchip is up-to-date. Microchips are the most reliable way to be reunited with a lost pet - but only if you keep it updated!
Most shelters, rescues, and vet clinics chip animals before adoption, so if you’ve adopted a pet and aren’t sure about a chip, check your paperwork. You can always have your pet scanned by a vet to locate the chip and confirm the chip number.
Your chip number grants you access to your chip’s registry.
An updated microchip could be the difference between never seeing your pet again and picking them up, safe and sound, from a good samaritan or vet. It’s worth a check.

Cool 4th of July frozen watermelon treats are super easy to make and your dogs will love them!
Toss in a cup of sliced seedless watermelon
And blend until smooth.
Pour into mold or ice cream tray.
Add a teaspoon of plain yogurt and freeze for 2 hours.
Watermelon’s great for skin, muscles and hydration
And yogurt’s good for your dog’s digestion.
The origin of dog tags: Putting collars on dogs is an ancient practice. It was so common that by the time American soldiers in World War I were issued ID tags, they reminded everyone so much of what dogs wore that they were humorously called “dog tags,” a term that sticks to this very day.
Becky’s Pet Care reminds you to always have an ID tag on your pets-both cats and dogs to ensure that they will have a better chance of making their way home should they get lost or runaway, especially for those who get scared during fireworks or thunder. Microchipping is another great option!
Heat stroke is a serious risk to dog’s health - in worst case scenarios, it can be fatal. You can prevent heat stroke by restricting your pet’s exercise during the hottest hours of the day (early morning or late evening are the best times for exercise during the summer), by making sure he is well hydrated, providing cool places for him to relax, providing opportunities to swim, cooling mats, and by never leaving your dog unattended in the car during summer heat.
Many dogs die annually in hot cars. Even if your windows are cracked or you park in the shade, heat can build quickly in a car in the summer, turning it into an oven. If it’s 95 degrees at noon and you leave your windows cracked, the temperature in your car may still rise as high as 113 degrees. This is a recipe for disaster for your dog.
If you must leave your dog in the car for any period of time, the air conditioning should stay on. Leaving a dog to die in a hot car is not just a health risk for your dog, but may be cause for animal cruelty charges in some area. The solution? Don’t leave your dog in a hot car. (Or any day 👍🐾❤️) This past weekend, Lost Dog and Cat Rescue teamed up with incredible partners—BISSELL Pet Foundation, National Mill Dog Rescue, and several Virginia shelters and rescues—to welcome 11 🐾 dogs from a group of over 190 🐕 commercial breeder surrenders. Though they were no longer wanted by their previous owners, everything changed when they arrived at the Rescue Care Center. The compassionate staff and volunteers have showered them with the love and care they deserve, and just look at them now! 💞☔️ Rainy days won’t slow down their journey to a happy home! Our pack could not get enough of these easy super healthy 3 ingredient pupsicles!Melt half a cup of organic coconut oil and pour into the bottom of silicone molds. Place in freezer. Meanwhile- mix half a cup of frozen blueberries with 3/4 cup of organic goat’s milk in a blender- Next, pour on top of frozen coconut oil and freeze for 2 or 3 hours.
