Event Details: TJO staff and volunteers (some may be big local celebrities!) are going to make FABULOUS (and not so fabulous, but super funny) portraits of your pets.
YOU vote on your favorite and the winner will be displayed (with the original picture) at the TJO shelter for a year! Everyone who submits a photo will get their portrait at the end of the fundraiser!
What do you need to do??
1. Make a $25 donation by using the "tickets" link above. $25 per picture entry.
2. EMAIL your pet photo to [email protected].
3. Look for drawn photos to be posted here on September 13th and start voting for your favorites (through 9/21)! Every “like” is a vote, but if you stop by TJO before September 27th, you can vote IN PERSON (which counts as 2)!

You may get a masterpiece or something more comparable to a toddler’s stick-figure drawing, but we guarantee it will be timeless and make you laugh-and laughter is something everyone needs! Everyone will be able to take their drawing home with them at the after party or you can pick it up at TJO!

Mark your calendar for September 18-20, when our friends from Outside The Box Gift Shop/It Makes Scents in Springfield host a fundraising event for TJO from 11am-3pm each day! Raffle prizes, and popcorn to snack on while you shop! Drop off items from the shelter wish list (see flyer) OR a cash donation, and get 3 free raffle tickets to be used during the event! Proceeds go to the Foundation for TJO Animals to benefit the animals in need at the Thomas J. O'Connor Animal Control & Adoption Center.

Certain kitties have waived adoption fees this week!!! Check some out on Thomas J. O'Connor Animal Control and Adoption Center fb page or their website!!

The time has come for Onyx (1 year old female) to find her forever home!

Onyx is participating in our fee waived adoption event until 9/1, however she is in a foster home so please contact the shelter if you are interested in adopting her. Can't adopt? Then please SHARE!

After months in foster care, she is now a happy, healthy, sweet, and sassy kitty! She has some food sensitivities and needs a certain diet. It is not prescription food and the variety of foods (Reveal, Evolve, Kirkland chicken) she tolerates is very affordable! While she is very healthy currently, we do not have a crystal ball to say what the future holds medically for her. Her adopter will need to have a strong relationship with their vet just in case she needs more than average vet care later on down the road. Onyx can be a bit shy at first, but once she opens up she is a sweetheart. She isn't much of a lap cat, but she loves to be around her people getting love and attention. She tolerates dogs very well and is very curious of other kitties. She is overall a quiet girl, but does have her moments of spaz kitty energy.

She must be indoor only and her adopter must commit to keeping up with yearly vet care. She is spayed, up to date on vaccines, microchiped, given flea meds, dewormed, and given an overall vet checkup before going to her new home. An adoption fee of $90 would typically apply, but she is participating in our fee waived adoption event until 9/1!

MEET THE FOUNDATION:

Good Morning! We are the Foundation for TJO Animals – a 501C3 nonprofit that raises money for the Thomas J O’Connor Animal Control and Adoption Center. We are the fundraising arm for the shelter and work to raise funds for the medical care and treatment of animals that come into TJO. We also use fundraising dollars for special life-saving procedures and surgeries as needed and enrichment upgrades at the shelter.

The Foundation is made up of an executive director, marketing & communications manager and foundation admin assistant, plus a volunteer board of directors.

We thought it was about time we properly introduced ourselves by featuring a member of the team every month or so! We will kick things off with:

Board member name: Sarah Murphy
Years on the board: 7 years
Nonprofit or animal welfare experience ( # of years): 7 years
Do you have any animals? Yes, I have an orange tabby named Cleo that I adopted as a kitten from TJO in October 2021.
Why TJO? Starting my career in western MA, I knew I wanted to give back to the community, especially to the animals who enrich our lives. Having grown up adopting pets from TJO, reaching out to the foundation felt like a natural homecoming. While volunteering at events initially appealed to me, my interview sparked a desire for deeper involvement. After all, let's be honest, animals tend to win my heart over people any day!

HUGE THANK YOU to all the folks that came out to support our fundraiser event for the on Saturday. With the generous donations of all our participants, athletes, volunteers, and we were able to raise $1038 to donate to the Foundation for TJO Animals to aid in costly veterinary and medical bills for shelter animals. Thank you all so much for making this event a success! 🙏💙💕

Today is International Cat Day… It was established in 2002 by The International fund for animal welfare. The purpose being to increase awareness of cats and their needs as well as to advocate for their welfare.

This years theme is: “feeling lucky to have cats — and celebrating what they bring to our lives as owners and admirers. “

This year’s International # is: add it to your kitties pic!!!

Show us your feline BFF and share a bit about what they have added to your life.

How you can celebrate: make your kitties their annual vet appointment, get your kitty a new breakaway cat collar and don’t forget get those all important ID’s, extra snuggle time of course, oh and extra treats, get your kitty microchipped, make a donation in their honor to your fave feline shelter/rescue! Maybe go to your local shelter/rescue and adopt a kitty!

There are only 17 days until our Community Workout at . Join us on August 17th in the morning for a fun, fit time. Register early or on the day of the event at the door.

All net proceeds raised will go to the Foundation for TJO Animals which is a foundation dedicated to funding medical, shelter, food, and emotional needs of homeless animals at the TJO Adoption Center. The money raised will go to assisting

The workout is infinitely scalable and can be done by anyone regardless of CrossFit background or fitness level. So, bring your friends and family along for the day as well!

The Foundation is excited to kick off our new DONOR OF THE MONTH highlight program. Each month a random donor will be chosen and featured on our FB page.

The Foundation for TJO Animals is proud to celebrate Karen Davis as our inaugural Donor of the Month. She is a nurse and longtime volunteer/foster for local animal shelters. Karen started with the MSPCA about 20 years ago, then went to TJO and, finally, to Dakin Humane about 14 years ago. She has fostered hundreds of cats and kittens and has become a bit of a specialist with pregnant moms and babies. Pictured here with Karen is her main foster helper, Thomas, who is amazing at teaching all the babies that come into her care.

"I donate to (the Foundation For TJO Animals) because, not only did I volunteer there in the past, but I know what great work is being done there. The staff is amazing and does so much with limited funding. If everyone gave even a little bit on a regular basis, there would be so much more that could be done for local animals, especially now with the increase in surrenders and confiscations. I would love to see everyone support the incredible resource that is TJO."

Please join us in thanking our friends Jesse Bartosz & his mom Lindsey LaBelle for holding the 2nd Jesse's Lemonade Stand fundraising event at GGInks. Jesse's love of animals is incredible, and with the help of some great supporters, Jesse raised $5,105 for the TJO animals!! They also collected lots of toys, food, treats and other wish list items for the critters. Special thanks to GG Inks for hosting the event, Rock 102 & Lazer 99.3 & 98.5 for promoting the event, Jesse's family and friends, and all those in the community who contributed to this amazing event! TJO pup Reyna, and TJO kitten Olive were happy to share in the photo fun!
