Update on little Gator.

He is now in a foster home!!

From foster mom-
I started fostering Gator on Saturday. He is doing fantastic!
I got him home and he was asleep on his new bed within 5 minutes.
Now this morning all he wants to do on this snowy day is play with all the toys!

This is Gators story-

This sweet little angel is Gator.
Gator has been suffering from severe leg malformation since birth, but he can still get around pretty well. Gator does need to be lifted into cars, tub, stairs, etc. He is a thick boy!

Finding a rescue who can help little Gator achieve his full potential is essential.

Special need pets still have love and devotion to give, and they can adapt to their new homes and lifestyles better than you might think.

Gator is around 1 year old
He loves people
He plays with toys
He is not in any pain
He deserves a chance
A chance to live a happy life full of love for as long as his body will allow

Gator will have to be adopted through a rescue.
He has had a X-ray and a medical.

Going through multiple procedures or surgeries may be too much for him. It would be amazing if we could find him a family that will love him just as he is.

They are being exposed to older kids, other dogs, rabbits, and a cat.

Feline Follow-Up! ☺️

Good morning!

I thought I would share an update on the 1 year gotcha day of our cat Ollie (formerly Donner). His fur has grow in fully and he looks majestic!
The discolor on his paws is completely gone. He's still a sweet and loving boy who enjoys lots of treats and pets! We're so lucky to have him! Attached are some pictures we think you'll enjoy.

Sunday Pupdate! ☺️

We will be celebrating Fiona's third Gotcha Day on 1-2-25.
She's blossomed from a scared pup to a loving family member.
This year's accomplishment was persuading her that chasing the neighbor's chickens was a bad idea. 😊
We love her, she loves us, and we dint know how we lived without her in our lives.

Please make sure your pets are safe!

There have been many dogs posted
on the lost pet pages. Please check fence and gates❗️

GO out into the fenced yard with with your dogs and keep watch to ensure they do not get out ❗️

Don't let dogs go out to potty "real quick" without a LEASH❗️

Your dog may not survive the brutal weather if it wanders away from home.

Adopted

Mercedes is a very sweet girl who ended up at animal control at 6 years of age due to being abandoned.

Buster came in as a stray.

Both are wonderful dogs and very nice to spend time with.

A nice family came in looking to add a new friend. They liked both these dogs so we did a meet and greet. All went well so tonight they both are in their brand new home.

Many, many thanks for getting these wonderful dogs out of the shelter life and into a loving home.

This cute boy hasn't been with us very long, which is a great!

While here at the shelter we found him to be a very sweet very shy boy.

Today a nice couple came in looking for a new best friend and when they met Bleu the knew he was the one.

Many, many thanks for getting the sweet boy out of the shelter life and into a loving home

Like so many this young dog came to animal control as a stray.

Shayla hasn't been with us long but like most young pups she is sweet, active, and energetic

Today a nice lady came in looking for a friend and when she met this cutie she knew she was the one.

Many, many thanks for getting this sweet girl out of the shelter life and into a loving home.

‼️SEVERE WEATHER ALERT ‼️

❗️SEVERE COLD TEMPERATURE❗️

Cats and dogs should be kept inside during cold weather. It's a common belief that dogs and cats are more resistant than people to cold weather because of their fur, but it's untrue. Like people, cats and dogs are susceptible to frostbite and hypothermia and generally should be kept inside.

If unable to bring into the house, you can put straw in the garage, or on an enclosed porch.

If there's no other choice but to have an animal stay outside, you must provide adequate shelter to keep them comfortable and alive!

For the best winter setup for an outside dog house, ensure it's located in a sheltered area NOT out in the open!

Outdoor doghouses should be
insulated and airtight!
Should be raised up off the ground at least a few inches and be equipped with a door flap to keep out drafts.

The bedding NEEDS to stay dry.
If you don't have a door flap make sure the opening is just big enough for the dog to get into and out of the house.

Also, make sure the doghouse always has dry bedding; a lot straw!

Plastic sheeting to surround the fence portion to block the wind.

If you see a dog without appropriate shelter, please contact your local police, the local animal control, or a local rescue.

Adopted

The sweet little girl came to animal control as
a stray back in October.

Deedee is a young energetic girl with a sweet personality.

Today a family came in looking for a dog and when they met DeeDee they thought she would be the one for their family, but first the family dog had to agree. So they did a meet and greet and everything went very well.

Tonight DeeDee gets to curl up on a soft bed in a loving home

Many, many thanks for getting this sweet girl out of the kennel life and into a loving home.

Shilo Update!

This is so much better to see than scared under a cot on the concrete. We are fostering this sweet beautiful husky, Shiloh until she finds her forever home. She is approximately 2, sits, shakes, plays ball, she loves other dogs, is interested in and barks at the cats (but isn’t mean to them). If you are able to give this girl a forever home, please reach out to Sangamon County Animal Control! If not, please share!!

Happy New Year! What could be better than a new best friend for the new year?

Meet Bogo our first Wet Nose Wednesday star for 2025! Bogo is about two years old and he loves to play ball and take walks. He loves his ball so much he carries it while he’s walking. Bogo has plenty of energy for playing and walks nicely on a leash. He’s a friendly, happy boy who loves being outside with his human friends. He’s pretty cute, too!

Sangamon County Animal Control and Adoption Center will be closed Wednesday January 1st but will be open regular business hours Thursday and Friday 10:30-4:15 and Saturday 9:00-1:00. Come on out and meet all of the adoptable dogs!

Is there anyone who would consider fostering sweet Shilo until she finds a forever home?

This beautiful girl out of the kennel-She is so incredibly sweet! She knows sit, shake, and loves to play ball! Very nice dog and usually pretty easy to walk. Likes attention and playing ball.

Inside the kennel- she is terrified and hides under her bed. It's so heartbreaking to have to take her back inside and put her into the kennel.

She came in as a stray so we do not know how she is with kids, cats, or other dogs.

We are happy to do a meet & greet with any family dog.

The many expressions of Mia at the off-site event.☺️

Mia is a sweet, silly, playful girl!
Many people met Mia, and they all fell in love! ❤️

She's only one year-old so she's still quite young and will need a little guidance in a new home.

However, she is in a foster home now so she's got a great start on her manners.

If you're looking for a young Lab, who would make an excellent family dog, please ask about Mia!

Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night Adorable Gin Gin is still looking for her forever family.

Who remembers this little guy? There was a very sad story on the Lost Pet pages about him. A little boy was out walking around asking someone to please help and take his dog. He had been told the dog couldn't stay at his house anymore. It was heartbreaking. Many people commented saying they would take the dog. Where are all those people? Here he is !! Kane spent Thanksgiving at the Sangamon County Animal Control and it looks like he'll be spending Christmas here too. As you can see in the video Kane is a good boy . So if any of those people who commented really want to help this little guy he would be very grateful to see you. we absolutely want to see all of our wonderful dogs find a home. However, we do want to remind everybody that during the holidays, new dogs in a home can become overwhelmed around a large group of people. Please keep their safety and your safety in mind during the holidays. The dogs won't mind at all if they're not included in the festivities.
