We’re hard at work preparing for our next free veterinary clinic the week of April 15th-18th and our big 50 cat flight April 23rd! We’re so grateful for all of the community support both on and off island and the amazing work of our veterinary team.
Each clinic we’ve had more patients than the previous clinic as we build momentum and trust in the community and we’re so happy to be going back soon!
Our new challenge coins featuring some of the other GTMO animals have arrived! We’re raising money for our next clinic in April where we’re looking forward to helping a few hundred more animals, and the humans who love them! They’re $25 each, pickup on base or we can ship.
Take a relaxing purring kitten break! Little Gitmo is such a cuddly boy and we wanted to keep sharing his progress! It’s taken this guy awhile to really come around but he’s now one of the cuddliest lap kittens we’ve ever fostered! He LOVES other cats and dogs, sleeps on the bed with everyone, and wants to cuddle up with the other pets. We’re still working with him, he can try to use his mouth sometimes as seen here, but he’s easily redirected with toys, and we plan to make him available for adoption during the holiday season.
We hope everyone enjoys this adorable and humorous little 18 second break from the stress. Little Gitmo was rescued by the Coast Guard a few months ago and we’ve been working with him on his social skills. Today he was not only initiating cuddling on the bed, but with one of the dogs there too! We’re very proud of how far he’s come!
Beanie Baby wanted to tell you she’s quite a fighter too!!! After several days of not eating on her own last night she finally came through and her doctors say she’s eating like a champ! Both Beanie Baby and Polly Pocket will require extended ongoing care at home to continue to recover and grow stronger. They’re not 100% out of the woods yet but they’re both doing well! Polly is back at home and every 4 hours we wake up to feed the kittens. It’ll be a long few weeks nursing the girls back to health, but they’re the sweetest little babies who are so appreciative for all the work we’ve done to get them better.
Habanero is the spiciest kitten we’ve fostered so far! Rescued by our friends Middleburg Humane Foundation she was not doing well in the shelter and needed an experienced socializer to get into shape. We love making angry kittens happy pets and Habanero is finally coming around after about 2 weeks of kitten boot camp being cuddled and out in a purrito so she’s forced to interact with and love the humans who just want to save her. We’ll keep snuggling her til she’s ready to be listed for adoption through MHF!
Tiny tabby tongue
When you ate too much and can’t do anything but lay there with your bloated belly wondering why you went back for thirds AND dessert!
A week and a half in Penny’s kittens are growing like weeds, Penny is overwhelmed, and seeking a diversion!
Penny and her 6 kittens are all doing well! The babies are gaining weight and nursing well, and Penny is a great mom. There’s one tiny tabby in the bunch and everyone else looks solid black for now. We’ll see if anyone turns out fluffy like their mom!
Penny With Her Newborns
Last night was the night for Penny, and now we’d like to welcome 5 new baby kittens! Penny is a GREAT mom, she thoroughly cleaned all her babies and started nursing them right away. As you can hear she was purring loudly nonstop and rolling around showing off her belly and her kittens! There were only 3 during this video and we thought she was done but half an hour later we got 2 more. For now they’re tiny, blind, deaf, and need constant warmth and food from their mom. We have no doubt Penny will take excellent care of what is the last litter of kittens she’ll ever have. Once the kittens are weaned Penny will be spayed and available for adoption! All she wants is love and attention and she’ll follow her humans around like a dog!
Penny’s Kittens Kicking in the Womb
Thank everyone so much for all of your donations today! We wanted to post an adorable update on Penny. As we await their arrival her kittens are already making themselves known. Look to the left in the video and you’ll see one of the kittens is kicking in the womb! We can’t wait to meet these little ones!
Pistol Pete wanted to thank everyone for their generous donations! We truly appreciate your support that allows us to keep helping cats both at GTMO and in the DC area. Pete is currently showing off how happy he is to be rescued, now spoiled and rolling around on a big fuzzy blanket inside and not out in the cold hissing at everyone. He’s a total ham for the camera!
