Great News!!! Kirby has been adopted! Thank you to Kirby’s new family.
Available for Adoption: KIRBY
(See more photos at https://www.gpamo.org/greyhounds.html )
From Alane Shultz, Founder of GPAMO: Kirby (MV Kirby), DOB 3/11/18, is a black cat-safe female. She was originally adopted in July 2021 from Mid-South Greyhound Adoption at the West Memphis AR Greyhound track. That track closed on Dec. 31, 2022. Kirby was surrendered to our adoption group on Oct. 12, 2024. She did live with an indoor cat. She is fostered now with my husband and I, as well as female and male Greyhounds. We are retired and home a lot. She gets along great with our Greyhounds. We do muzzle our Greyhounds when they go out into the back fenced yard. She would be good with a submissive male Greyhound or other medium to large submissive male dogs. She is not overly dominant at all but would probably be the dominant dog with another dog. She is of course spayed and will get some medical updates on Oct. 30. She will get shots, a heartworm test, bloodwork and a dental. She has been taking Heartgard Plus and Nexgard. Kirby is very friendly and affectionate. She is a good walker and rides well in a car. She has great sleeping habits, potty habits, and is a good eater.
***Kirby needs a home with a strong, experienced Greyhound-knowledgeable person. That would be a current or former Greyhound owner, someone who has had multiple Greyhounds over the years. It would also be someone who is home a lot, a homebody type person, and preferably someone who likes to take a daily walk of 1 to 2 miles when weather allows. Someone who is only gone a couple of hours at a time. After the first six months to a year of adjustment you could probably increase that time. Kirby needs a consistent daily routine, stability, and a more quiet home. She needs a fenced yard outside an exterior door of your house that goes directly into the fenced yard area. It doesn’t have to be a huge yard by any means. She needs love and attention. No sleeping in the humans' beds. She sleeps on an extra large and extra deep dog bed next to me at night.
Kirby’s adoption fee will be $250. She has high quality dog coats that would be sent with her and much much more that came with her. You will not need to purchase much for Kirby.
We will consider adopting to someone outside the Springfield MO area.
