Hound dog lovers, look no further! Our beautiful 6-year-old Hound mix, Bunny, has been at the shelter since June 2022. She has gained so much confidence while here at the shelter, and we know she is ready to take on a forever family! Bunny is super sweet and playful, and she absolutely loves running around in the backyard and interacting with staff. She adores attention and will never turn down a pet! Bunny would do best in a child-free home, because children make her nervous.

Bunny is great with adults and is so loving, always wanting affection from her people. She would also love to be your one and only pet. Bunny is ready to take on life outside of our shelter walls. Please share this post so we can make that a reality for Bunny this holiday season! 🎄

We want to give a HUGE shoutout to the Krek family for surprising our staff and the pets in our care with an awesome Christmas delivery today! They brought us lunch, goodie bags, treats, and more! Our staff was so excited!
The last couple of days we've also had homemade soup and homemade fudge delivered by some amazing people, too!
Thank you for being the best community we could ask for!

It's the LAST weekend of our Empty the Shelters Reduced Fee Adoption Event! Through December 17, all dogs ages 6 months and older have a $25 adoption fee and all cats ages 6 months and older have a $10 adoption fee thanks to BISSELL Pet Foundation! Up-to-date vaccinations, spay/neuter surgery, and a microchip are all included within the reduced adoption fees. ✅ Hank, the adorable dog pictured, is included - learn more about him below!

Hello there, I'm Hank! I'm a curious soul, always to explore my surroundings and sniff out new adventures. As a 4-year-old 42lb Hound mix, my energy is infectious and I've got lots of it! I enjoy playing fetch, however, my version of fetch is grabbing the ball and keeping it. Who needs to bring it back?! I love being pet, but I'm a bit body sensitive, so I need gentle hands and a calmer environment. Kids ages 13+ would be a great fit for me, and I'd love to be the star of the show as the only pet. I have a collection of squeaky toys (they're my favorite!) that I'll show off if you come visit me. I'm just a happy-go-lucky boy that is ready for a home of my very own! 🏠

Join us at 3161 W. Norton Road TODAY from 9am-1pm for our low-cost vaccination and microchip clinic! Our clinic is designed for the public and is walk-in only. Spots are limited to 80 people, and it is first come, first served.

Exciting news! The new Tail Wagon Treat Truck from Howliday Inn Pet Resort will be on-site from 9am-1pm as well with delicious treats you can purchase for your pets during this event! 🧁

Here's how the clinic works:

🐾 Registration will begin at 9am. When you arrive, come inside without your pet(s) to receive a form. Once the form is filled out completely, return it to us to receive a number. This number is your spot in line. Then, all guests should be prepared to wait in their vehicle with their pet(s) until their number is called. Once your number is called, bring your pet(s) inside and our staff will take it from there!

🐾 For your pet's safety, all dogs must be on leashes and all cats must be in carriers during the entire duration of their visit to the shelter. If you are bringing multiple cats, please separate them and use an individual cat carrier for each cat.

🐾 The clinic will run until 80 people are registered or 1pm, whichever comes first. You can call us at 417-833-2526 anytime that day to check on the status of the clinic.

- Individual Vaccines: $12 each
- Dog Package (Bordetella, DHPP, Rabies): $30
- Cat Package (FVRCP, Rabies): $20
- Microchip: $25 each (Mini chips for your pet's comfort!)

🐾 Sit. Stay. Shake! 🐾

Did you know we offer monthly training classes at our shelter? We have new dog training classes beginning in January 2025, and we want you and your furry friend to join us! This is a great opportunity for dogs and their owners to not only bond but gain confidence in themselves and each other. 🐕🦮

On Wednesday nights, we offer Basic Obedience Training. On Thursday nights, we offer Trick Dog Training. Each training session lasts 4 weeks! All our training is done by Karen Kathka, a certified professional dog trainer that uses reward-based positive reinforcement methods. She has worked with dogs in puppy, adolescent, obedience, rally, trick, and agility classes.

➡️ Dogs must be at least 5 months of age and up-to-date on vaccines before participating in a training class. More information about each individual training class can be found at the links below. Spots are limited.

We have had many people in need of our Pet Food Pantry services, but we are running low on pet food again! We accept any brand of dog or cat food - wet or dry.

Specifically, we are really in need of dog food donations at this time! 🐕🐩🦮

If you have any pet food lying around that is opened, we can still take it! We just ask that we know the type of food, expiration date, and that it is not prescription.

Besties 🥰 We love catching precious moments like this! This is Lilly (gray cat) and Shaylee. They're both cat-friendly and currently sharing a room, but they are not bonded. Lilly is 6 years old, and Shaylee is 8 years old. They're both searching for a home to call their own!

🌟 Meet Ryder, a 1-year-old American Blue Heeler mix! 🌟

Ryder had the chance to take some photos with Santa this past weekend, and it was too cute not to share! Ryder loves running around, exploring new places, and sniffing out fun adventures. ✨ He's more on the independent side, so he doesn't need constant attention. However, Ryder loves to play and will happily join in on a game of fetch or tug! 🦴 He's not the biggest fan of sharing his toys or space, so his ideal forever home would be one without other pets or kids where he can be the star of the show. 🎬 Don't worry though, Ryder has enough love to fill a house all by himself! Ryder's ready to be your loyal companion, exercise partner, and best friend. If you're looking for an athletic, sweet, and fun dog, then Ryder's your guy! ❤️

How cute is Bonsai? Bonsai is a 1-year-old Domestic Shorthair mix looking for a furrr-ever home! She was found as a stray, and we have since discovered she is cat-friendly. 🐈 She's currently sharing a group room with some other cats, and her favorite spot is at the top of a cat condo. Bonsai tends to keep to herself, likes playing with feather toys, and enjoys people watching. She's ready to meet her match! 🥰

We have a full house, so if you're looking for a pet, stop on by the Humane Society soon! Our adoptions begin at noon every day, no appointment needed.

Update: Walker has been promoted to FOREVER HOME! He's already been adopted!

Walker's first day as Front Desk Manager! He's mainly supervising snack breaks and taking naps, but we'll let it slide this time. He's got great manners and people skills, although treats somehow seem to keep disappearing. 🤔

Meet Zane, a young, sweet, and adorable feline who's bursting with personality! ✨ As an 8-month-old Domestic Shorthair mix, his goofy antics are sure to bring laughter into your home. He's a sport when it comes to dress-up, never fussing about a bow tie or a sweater. Zane is a true fashionista! He gets along great with other cats, always ready to mingle with fellow felines in the shelter, however, Zane's ready for a place to call home! 🏠

Update: Thank you SO much for all of your donations! We have plenty of rice and socks now thanks to our wonderful community!

Help! We're all out of tube socks and rice!

You may ask, what do you need tube socks and rice for? We use the rice to make heating pads for pets during surgery, and our kittens wear the socks after surgery so they can't access the wound and can heal properly. Times have been tough and expenses have gone up, so anyone able and willing is welcome to drop off adult-size tube socks or rice (white rice or any kind is fine!) at our shelter any day of the week between 8am-5pm (or order online and ship to 3161 W Norton Rd, Springfield, MO, 65803) - it's much appreciated!
