If anyone happens to have any new or gently used towels, rags, or washcloths laying around they don't need, the Humane Society could definitely use them! We go through them so quickly with 300+ animals and are always in need of more. They just cannot have any holes or tears in them, as it is a safety hazard.

Donations can be dropped off at our shelter from 8am-6pm each day (8am-5pm on Sundays). We are located at 3161 W. Norton Rd, Springfield, MO 65803. Thank you so much to anyone who is able to help!

The adorable Indie, a 6-month-old Terrier mix, will be at our PetSmart in-store adoption event today at 2640 S Campbell Ave from 11am-3pm! We'll have some other small adoptable dogs there as well, so make sure to swing by if you're in the market to add a new canine friend to your household. 🐾

Indie is incredibly young with her whole life ahead of her, and she's searching for someone that will stick by her side through thick and thin! She is dog-friendly and we think she would be a good fit for kids of all ages. She's so sweet! She can be shy/nervous when meeting new people, but treats definitely help. If you're looking for a gentle and loving pal, Indie is the one for you. Come meet her yourself today - she's waiting!

** WOW! We have had such an amazing response to this fundraiser! We have already received requests for 80 drawings! We did not know what to expect with this fundraiser, so we are going to pause requests for a bit while Glendale High School catches up on the drawings! Thank you SO much to our community for supporting us! If there happen to be any other high school art classes that may want to help take on more of these drawings for us, please reach out! It would help us tremendously and continue to produce much needed funds for the shelter and pets in our care!**

We’ve partnered with Glendale High School to bring you quirky, fun, and unique pictures of your pets—all while supporting the Humane Society of Southwest Missouri!

How It Works:

Step 2: Send a photo of your pet (one pet per picture) to [email protected] after purchasing. Please include in your e-mail a picture of your pet(s), your phone number, and your name in case we need to contact you with any questions.
Step 3: The talented Glendale High School art students will create a fun, whimsical 5x7 drawing of your pet—each one will be unique!
Step 4: Pick up your completed artwork at the Humane Society of Southwest Missouri starting the week of March 10, 2025! (We will let you know the exact date the drawings have been delivered and are available for pickup)

It's Bear's 1st birthday today! 🎉

To celebrate, our staff sang to him and surprised him with some new toys! Bear joined our shelter family a few months back, and he's such a sweet boy. He's a Border Collie mix that loves people, being loved on, and has his whole life ahead of him! We've learned in his time with us so far that he isn't a huge fan of cats, so a cat-free home is ideal. He likes most other dogs but can be selective at times, so we recommend a slow introduction to any potential dog siblings he may have. He does great with older kids, as he's very playful and energetic. Border Collies are also known for their intelligence and affectionate nature, and Bear's ready to give love unconditionally. All he asks for in return is a forever home where he can shine! 🏡

🐾 Sit. Stay. Shake! 🐾

Did you know we offer monthly training classes at our shelter? We have new dog training classes beginning February 5 & 6, and we want you and your furry friend to join us! This is a great opportunity for dogs and their owners to not only bond but gain confidence in themselves and each other. 🐕🦮

On Wednesday nights, we offer Basic Obedience Training. On Thursday nights, we offer Trick Dog Training. Each training session lasts 4 weeks! All our training is done by Karen Kathka, a certified professional dog trainer that uses reward-based positive reinforcement methods. She has worked with dogs in puppy, adolescent, obedience, rally, trick, and agility classes.

➡️ Dogs must be at least 5 months of age and up-to-date on vaccines before participating in a training class. More information about each individual training class can be found at the link below. Spots are limited.

🐾 Cute Puppy Alert! 🐾

We have a new litter of Shiba Inu mix pups now available for adoption! They are 2 months old and vaccinated, spayed/neutered, and microchipped. All boys minus Topanga!

Our adoption center is open 12-6pm Monday-Saturday and 12-5pm Sunday. Anyone is welcome to drop in during those hours to view all of our adoptable dogs and cats. Our adoptions are first come, first served with an approved application.

These precious babies are awaiting their forever homes! 🏡 Will that be with you?

What you need to adopt:
✅ Adopters must be at least 18 years of age and possess a valid photo ID
✅ Any current animals in the home must be up-to-date on their rabies vaccine​

✨This year, at the S&H Christmas party, employees participated in a 50/50 raffle. The winning employee got to donate the ticket amount to the charity of their choice. This year's winner was Chris Prine!🎉 Chris chose the Humane Society of SWMO for his donation. Not only that, but Chris donated his winnings back to the charity for the full amount of $830.

Meet Milo, a 5-year-old Smooth Collie mix with an impressive resume! His intelligence shines through his ability to understand commands; he's already mastered 'sit' and working on more! Milo is also house-trained, walks well on a leash, and does great on car rides. 🚗

A playful spirit, Milo is a happy-go-lucky dog that wants to be your best friend! His loyalty is unmatched, and his sweet, friendly nature is sure to win over everyone he meets. He loves being pet and will come up to you when he is wanting attention! He's not shy at all, and Milo's gentle demeanor makes him a perfect companion for children. He's calm and very well-mannered. 🐾

Milo loves some canine friends he's encountered and isn't as fond of others, so we'd recommend a meet and greet with any dogs you already own just to ensure they'll be a good fit in their new home. Join us at 3161 W. Norton Road today from 9am-1pm for our low-cost vaccination and microchip clinic! Our clinic is designed for the public and is walk-in only. Spots are limited to 80 people, and it is first come, first served.

Here's how the clinic works:

🐾 Registration will begin at 9am. When you arrive, come inside without your pet(s) to receive a form. Once the form is filled out completely, return it to us to receive a number. This number is your spot in line. Then, all guests should be prepared to wait in their vehicle with their pet(s) until their number is called. Once your number is called, bring your pet(s) inside and our staff will take it from there!

🐾 For your pet's safety, all dogs must be on leashes and all cats must be in carriers during the entire duration of their visit to the shelter. If you are bringing multiple cats, please separate them and use an individual cat carrier for each cat.

🐾 The clinic will run until 80 people are registered or 1pm, whichever comes first. You can call us at 417-833-2526 anytime that day to check on the status of the clinic.

- Individual Vaccines: $12 each
- Dog Package (Bordetella, DHPP, Rabies): $30
- Cat Package (FVRCP, Rabies): $20
- Microchip: $25 each (Mini chips for your pet's comfort!)

Tiny Tim - Before & After!

After a battle with Panleukopenia, a very highly contagious and potentially fatal disease that attacks the blood cells, we are incredibly happy to report that Tiny Tim won his battle and is now living his best life in his forever home!! 🎉

If you remember his story, Tiny Tim's vitals were very touch and go. They even crashed at one point, resulting in him staying overnight at the Emergency Vet Clinic. Thankfully, the fight has been won! Despite everything he's been through, Tiny Tim is a happy boy and is now getting to relax in a home of his very own. This is why we do what we do!

Ruffles is picture perfect! 🤩

Ruffles is a young soul bursting with life! She's a 2-year-old, 54lb American Blue Heeler mix. Her playful nature is infectious, making every moment with her a joyous adventure. She's a sweet and friendly companion, always ready to shower you with love and affection. She loves to be spoiled, so she would really enjoy being your one and only pet!

Ruffles is highly active, so she's perfect for those who love to stay on the move. She hasn't been around kids much, but with her friendly personality, we think she would do well with them. If you're looking for a loyal friend who will keep you active and entertained, Ruffles is the one for you! 💖

🐾 Nikko's Day Out! 🐾

As a 2-year-old Catahoula mix, Nikko’s got lots of energy and will make a fun companion! He got to spend some time outside the shelter today on a field trip to Pet Supplies Plus and Doling Park. Nikko is incredibly sweet with the people he trusts and is a precious baby who leans into you, loves neck and chest scratches, and will look deep into your eyes. He's got a huge heart, and he's searching for someone willing to put in the work to win his heart! ❤

Nikko is very skeptical of strangers, which is why we are taking him out and socializing him more. After being abandoned on a doorstep as a young pup, we can see why he has reservations trusting new people. His day out included trusted staff members to help guide him, and he did great! He got to pick out some new toys, see some fish, and hang out on the playground. They also noted he did well in the car, loved to explore, and was very curious of everything around him!

We know there is a place for Nikko to reach his full potential and live his best life. He does great with other dogs and even joins in our play groups! He would do best in a home without kids, as he is already nervous with new people. He is very loyal to people he considers his and will make a wonderful dog for the person that wants to begin that adventure.
