Every year we find new creatures we haven’t seen in the 13 years we’ve been here. This year we have seen more amphibians than before - toads and frogs for the first time. A very good sign that healing is taking place.

Cornelian cherries are great this year. If you eat these before they are ripe, they are pretty unpalatable. But when you see that deep red and a little wrinkling at the stem, you know it’s time. They remind me of Christmas bulbs when hanging on the tree. This plant is in the dogwood family and if you look at the leaves, you can see the signature dogwood leaves.

Lots of stuff happening in May! Fruit is starting to form on our young apple trees. We split our rhubarb to let it grow in a few places. Our blueberries are coming along. Lots of mulch to help make new beds for more food plants.
