Recently I took a rare tumble.. and went down pretty hard. I thought I just received a humbling reminder that horses are unpredictable (a schooler id been working with for 2 weeks prior uneventfully I might add) and a bruised bum π
but that then led to a delayed concussion which kicked in pretty heavy about 48hrs later.. and the nearly 2 weeks since has been spent doing the bare minimum trying to get the old brain back a bit happier π just one of the reasons why we have been so quiet on the media front lately!
Which got me thinking about the topic of HELMETS and SAFETY... out of all your tack this one peice of equipment is probably the most important!! Find the helmet that fits your head and spend as many $$ as your budget will allow to get the best protection. Do your research.. this is one area where you SHOULD NOT SKIMP! and don't be afraid to wear that beauty at home.. thats where most of our accidents happen. No point in investing good money in a top of the line helmet to only use at shows when it should be on your noggin everytime you sit on a horse. No matter what horse. No matter how good of a rider you think you are. (Biggest pet peave on social media is riders without helmets.. you are influencing so many people without realizing!!ππ€¦ββοΈ) I was wearing my trusty AntarΓ¨s Sellier and so glad I was!!
Accidents happen.. the best you can do is limit the potential damage done.. always ride with a helmet and make sure someone knows your riding. If they aren't with you watching make sure you check in with them before and after your ride.. and if your going on the roads - what route your taking.. it may be the difference between you receiving help or lying somewhere untill someone notices you missing π¬ If you do have a decent fall and knock your head get checked out by a Doctor and check your helmet for damage if it was a decent fall you'll likely need to replace it.
They say no hoof no horse.. well no head no human.. be safe everyone and look after those noggins π β€ hopefully we'll be up and running again fully in the near future, till then everything will be moving just a bit slower round here π
