The clinic will be closing permanently Friday, December 1st. We were unable to find another veterinarian interested in taking over the practice and so we have to close our doors. I need to step away from practice in order to focus on the health of my family and myself. I greatly apologize for this huge inconvenience. If you need medications refilled prior to closure or need records transferred to another veterinary clinic, please email us or call us (although our phone lines are still screwy at the moment so please be patient with us). Thank you all for your support over these past 9 years. Becky, Jason and all past and present staff at Route 66 Pet Clinic

We are back from vacation! Yay! Construction has cut our phone line as of 730am this morning. Boo! If you are expecting a call back or trying to reach us please be patient. We are still available through our email at [email protected] in the mean time. We are sorry about this, but trust me, we are just as annoyed. Becky

From October 30th through November 3rd the clinic will be closed to allow employees to have a bit of down time/vacation.

Now moving forward... I (Dr. Becky) am planning on leaving the veterinary profession by the end of the year due to personal issues. I will still be hard at work at least through the end of the month, and may only be working limited hours until the end of the year. We are currently looking into keeping the clinic open to serve our clients' needs under someone else's direction, but with the veterinary shortage looming I am not sure that will be possible. If there are any medications that you would like to stock up on in the mean time please reach out and we will make sure we get them ordered for you. I greatly apologize for this huge inconvenience, and will keep you updated as to how things progress. I thank you all for making our little family clinic successful, and I am greatly sorry for needing to step down. Becky

Cracker Jack did great this weekend at the agility trial in Carthage! He earned fourth place his first time running in the Master standard (obstacle) course, and he earned the final leg of his Excellent title in the jumpers course, which puts him in the Masters category for both styles of courses moving forward. So proud of my little man! He definitely earned his chicken strips yesterday!

Well, we have a new crew in place going forward. Please be patient with us as our new employees get up to speed. I appreciate all the comments and suggestions as to our staffing dilemma. Everyone stay cool out there this week! Becky

Now on the more serious side of things:

The clinic is in crisis. Our 2 long term employees are seeking different employment opportunities elsewhere, and our part-timer is likely leaving for child-care purposes. We have until the end of the month to figure things out. That leaves us with no staff. And to top things off there is a veterinary assistant shortage in the job market making it very difficult to attract and hire good candidates. Any thoughts, suggestions or comments would be greatly appreciated. Dr. Becky

Nigel's comparison run. He took an off course jump right after the dog walk and dilly dallied around the table, both of which disqualify the run. But he was having fun.

07/10/2023

Cracker Jack had an excellent weekend, qualifying 3 out of 4 runs and earning his excellent title in the standard/obstacle courses. Nigel, a direct quote from my trainer, "lost his brain" and was 0 for 4. He was having fun though, although at my expense. I'm hoping with maturity I can get a handle on my fast but loose cannon.

The clinic will be closed next week on Tuesday, July 4th, and Friday, July 7th. That will be the last of our closures during usual business hours for quite some time. Again, we apologize in advance for the inconvenience, and hope everyone has a safe and happy 4th!

Nigel's "oops" in the weave poles.

06/26/2023

My fur kids did well this weekend. Nigel had a mishap in the poles (he hit the first pole too fast and threw him off balance and he popped out of the weaves before finishing). Cracker Jack was on fire for his first time out in the Excellent Jumpers course and got his first qualification in the higher class. All in all a good weekend, and we will be back at it the weekend of July 7th. Hope everyone had a good weekend!

My fur kids did well this weekend at the agility trial! Nigel earned his second qualifying score in the Excellent class, and Cracker Jack earned his hard fought Open title in Jumpers as well as received his first qualifying score in the Excellent class as well. The video below is of his Open run. Slow in the weaves due to trial anxiety and the poles being right next to the audience, and he had a stumble after one jump but he quickly recovered and my little guy powered through. Proud of my little furry dudes! Thanks again for your understanding of me taking some time off to have fun with my kiddos. Becky

My fur kids did well this weekend! Cracker Jack earned his Open (Intermediate) title in the Standard (obstacle) course with his perfect run. Still has a little trial stress, especially on the A-frame and through the weave poles, but otherwise he did great. Nigel earned his first Excellent Q in the Jumpers course with a perfect score at 29.87 seconds (42 second time limit; he was my little brown furry torpedo). We'll be back at it this coming weekend, so again the clinic will be closed on Friday so my fur kids can continue to kick butt in the ring :)

And again, I apologize in advance, the clinic will be closed several Fridays in the near future so I can take my fur kids to some local agility trials. The clinic will be closed the following Fridays: June 2nd, June 9th, June 23rd and July 7th. Thank you in advance for your patience and understanding! Dr. Becky

The clinic will be closed on Memorial Day, Monday, May 29th. For veterinary emergency cases during this time the Emergency Clinic of Southwest Missouri, located on 400 S. Glenstone, will be available 24 hours during the holiday weekend. Have a relaxing weekend everyone!

Nigel would have nailed this run except for the one dropped bar. Still proud of my little man for his first time running with the big kids.🥰

Thanks for understanding for us being closed this past Friday so that I could play with my poodles at an agility competition. Nigel (brown poodle) overall did well with his first showing in the Excellent class but alas no qualifications. Cracker Jack (white poodle) was much happier and confident in his runs, and he earned a Q in his class, with one fault (he bounced off the table). Overall was a good weekend, and will be back at it three weekends in June (again, sorry for the up and coming closures on Fridays). Becky

The clinic will be closed Friday, May 5th, so Dr. Becky and her poodle Nigel can compete in an agility competition that weekend. We will be back in business the following Monday (hopefully with additional ribbons added to the wall in the clinic...)

Dog agility season is in full swing, and I will apologize in advance that there will be a few Fridays in May, June and July where the clinic will be closed so that I can attend with my fur kids. This is a video of my poodle Cracker Jack this past weekend. We are working through his performance anxiety during trials. He needed to be coaxed through the weaves, and was about half his normal speed going over the jumps as he is in practice, but he did earn his first qualifying score in his class.

I had to say goodbye to my oldest poodle and first dog as an adult last night. Simon was 14 years old and started my obsession with the poodle breed. He was my sweetest boy. One of my favorite memories of him was when I volunteered him to help teach young kids how to approach and greet dogs at a safety for kids event when we lived in Illinois. As I finished my speech as to how to safely interact with a new dog I turned my back to talk to the person who was helping me at the event. Immediately a 6 year old kid ran up out of the audience and hugged him around the neck. Simon just looked up at me as if to say "was this part of the plan? What do I do now?" We sat the boy back down, went over the safety tips again. Simon took it in stride, but he was sure to sit behind me for the rest of the event to keep me as a barrier against other over enthusiastic children. I am absolutely heart broken at the loss of my ever faithful companion, so please bear with me in the coming days. Dr. Becky

My moyen poodle puppy YOLO completed his first obedience class last night at Precious K9s. Here he is demonstrating his good sit/stay. I highly recommend this training facility for all your training goals for your four-legged fur kid.
