Enteroliths are mineral masses that form in the colon of a horse. They are also known as intestinal stones or calculi. Usually these stones build up in thin layers around a bit of foreign matter (a small piece of wood, wire, hair, or other material) that the horse has swallowed. A horse may have one...

🐴 The Rider's Neutral Pelvis Position

This drawing shows three different possible positions of the dressage rider's pelvis. The imaginary bucket of water in your pelvis should help you to see the effects of the different angles of the rider's pelvis. You can see how the change of the angle of the pelvis shifts the rider's center of gravity, and therefore tips the bucket.

"Take Time to Look", aka "Koda", had a successful day at the SMHJA Missouri State University Hunter/Jumper Show on July 29th, 2023. Ridden by Taylor Salts, Koda took home the Adult Crossrail Hunter Championship and gave Taylor competitive rounds in her Equitation division. Later in the day, Koda won the Intermediate Hunter Division Championship, ridden by Tricia Hartwig, and came back to help Tricia earn the Intermediate Equitation Championship.
Congrats to Koda and his gals! Fun day, great rides!

PSA... Over the past couple weeks of horseshows, I’ve spent a lot of time ringside. It is CRAZY how tight people are girthing up just before they go into the ring. An over-tightened girth may pinch and bruise the muscles - in particular the pectorals, trapezius, serratus ventralis muscles and latissimus dorsi (see red areas in diagram bleow). This muscle group (also known as part of the thoracic sling) is crucial for movement. Besides soft tissue, an over tightened girth may also cause bruising of the ribs, the intercostal muscles between the ribs, And increase the overall pressure of the saddle on the back muscles. Check your girth underneath their chest, NOT on the side. You will be surprised the difference one hole can make, and quite literally give your horse some breathing room.

What a great show at Hope Acres this weekend. Thank you Amanda Houp and crew for another well run event. Stonegate is sincerely proud of all our riders including Amanda McGinty and "Baelfire" who had great rounds in the Adult Amateur Crossrail Division and are rapidly professing in performance in just their second outing of the season. Congrats go out to Taylor Salts and "Take Time to Look" for earning the Adult Amateur Crossrail Hunter Championship and winning the Crossrail Equitation over fences class. "Take Time to Look" came back to win the 2'3" Intermediate Hunter Division with owner Tricia Hartwig and the pair had a stellar ride in the over fences section of the 2'3" Intermediate Equitation Division.
The Friday night .80 Meter Jumper Division Championship was won by none other than Mia Epperson and her "Liberty Flashy Doll" who have moved up a division and still wow spectators with "hold your breath" time saving jump offs. "Beyond the Sea", piloted by owner Kristin Deily rode handily to the .85-.95 Meter Jumper Reserve Championship. Congratulations all!

Congratulations go out to Tricia Hartwig for a successful day at the Flying Fox Horse Show at the NEC in St. Louis. Tricia won both the flat and over fences classes in the Long Stirrup Adult/Masters Equitation Division on Saturday. On the same day, she rode her lovely horse "Take Time to Look" in the Long Stirrup Adult/Masters Hunter classes winning one over fences class and earning a second and a third in the other two. Sounds like a big start to a great show season! Way to go Tricia!
