🌴🧡🌴Meet Bella, a “Coconut Retriever” from the Humane Society of St. Thomas, USVI. Coconut retrievers are smart, energetic, and affectionate. They are loyal, highly trainable, and thrive on routines and consistency. There is no love like the love of an island dog! (Update: 7/12/24) 🥹 From now, flying on June 6th, to where things first began: How is it possible this darling hasn’t landed herself a forever home yet? Bella was dropped off at the Humane Society of St. Thomas as a stray with her (believed to be) 3 siblings. Bella was a great travel buddy, does well in the car, and enjoys adventures! She is fostered with various doggie friends of all sizes and loves their company! Bella is doing amazing with crate training, walks/basic leash training, and will continue to work on potty training. She is confident, agile, affectionate, has a big personality, and will make a great companion with continued praise/proper direction. Bella is well-socialized and has been exposed to kids, ages 8 and 10, other families, dogs, cats, and does well with different home settings. She is interested in the cat, wants to play, but has learned respect/boundaries. Island dogs have wonderful demeanors and are a good mix of loving, playful, calm, and do well with adjusting to their environments. ❣️Meet Doby, a “Sato dog” from Puerto Rico! A “Sato dog” refers to the small to medium-sized stray dogs in Puerto Rico. Island dogs are smart, loving, highly trainable, and make devoted companions. (1 week update- 2/12/24): Doby and his siblings were found as strays near a rain forest in Puerto Rico. Their mom was also rescued and seemed to be a medium sized, Shepherd Malinios (mix). Doby is sweet, joyful, outgoing, and full of love. He is a cuddle bug and more on the submissive side with his foster doggie friends. He projects his happiness with constant tail wags and tons of kisses, even for his furry friends! He is food and praise driven, independent, knows “sit”, and enjoys fetch/playtime. Doby LOVES toys, entertains himself easily, and is quite comical! He has adjusted with ease and thrives on consistency. He is crate trained and doing well with basic leash training and walks. He sleeps well, grasps routines/structure quickly, and is a good traveler. Doby is doing great with potty training, especially when remaining on a rhythm, and he even sometimes paws at the door to alert. (Unknown with kids/cats, but likely no issues as he is friendly and submissive). Doby will make a wonderful buddy and makes the “puppy stages” a breeze!
