Puppy photos are coming!!

Between a wedding, baby shower, harvesting and my dog boarding facility I did fall behind on getting those done in time for today. I took a quick video of the kids being rambunctious this morning while waiting for breakfast.

All puppies are thriving and doing superior. We have their outdoor enclosure all set up and ready to go for them to experience outdoors for the first time next week!

We introduced new scent and sounds to them this week. Including the vacuum, loud bangs, TV, a vehicle and pheasant scent.

Next up is the outdoors, water play time, pheasant wings, gun shots and much more!

Thank you everyone for your patience and understanding while I play catch up.

Puppies are officially 3 weeks old. We have introduced puppy mash and started with litter box training. All eyes are open and they are up and walking around wonderfully. All puppies are doing well, including Trooper.

I will do my best to get individual photos this week and hopefully have them posted by Sunday.

6 males currently available.

Enjoy the pups eating their mash!

Trooper is killing these bottle feedings. We have been finally able to get him to latch on Mom today too. Will continue to supplement him to make sure he is getting enough food, but encourage him to feed on Mom also.

As a breeder, you can never fully prepare yourself for those "what if" situations. Last night was one of them.

Around 8pm after pottying dogs, Gracie was let in to feed her pups. When done she came out to rest with us in the livingroom. After 5 minutes I heard a gasping noise from the puppy room. Not something you would expect to hear. I rushed in there to find a puppy in distress. It was not able to breath and was gasping for air.

My first thought, is that it was choking on something. What? Who knows. We suctioned and only got blood/puss. Not usual when you suction. By this time, the puppy was turning white and loosing strength. We rushed to the ER vet and explained the situation.

After quick examination, the vet ruled the puppy to have a extremely large abscess in its throat. They were able to open the abscess and watch as a ton of gross stuff came out. The puppy gasped for breaths and was able to finally breath.

How does a 2 week old puppy get an abscess in its throat? There were no cuts, bites or lacerations to cause the Infection. The vet was confused and unsure of what caused it. He had never seen this type of abscess in a puppy this young.

As of right now, Mr. Trooper is resting under strict care by me. He is on antibiotics, bottle feeding and we have to make sure the abscess continues to drain.

I'm having a hard time understanding how I missed this when I spend so much time with these puppies. As a breeder. This has never happened to me before. I didn't have the tools in my arsenal to prepare myself for this scenario. I don't think one can prepare fully.

I'm grateful he is alive and on the mend. I'm also grateful for Dr. Jason in responding so quickly. The fear of loosing a puppy is so hard to comprehend. I didn't sleep at all last night to make sure he was doing well.

Being a breeder means sacrifice beyond understanding. I will do anything to make sure ALL puppies are happy and healthy.
