Dog “tip” Tuesday: today I wanted to talk about deafness in pets! It is estimated that between 5-10% of dogs in the US alone struggle with deafness, regardless of age. Deafness can come from trauma, chronic infections, or some dogs are simply born that way. Regardless of the cause, deafness does not prevent a pet from leading a happy, fulfilling life!
Several dogs came through our local Humane Society with deafness and were adopted to homes willing to work with them. They are incredibly trainable and devoted to their owners; and you don’t have to worry about noise related anxiety, such as fireworks.

I would like to take a moment to discuss something near and dear to me: August 17th is International Homeless Animals Day as well as Clear the Shelters Day! Coming from a background of animal welfare means I have seen firsthand how animal control and humane societies operate; it takes courageous people with huge hearts to do what they do to get as many dogs (cats, rabbits and other animals, too!) into loving homes and foster programs to save as many lives as possible, despite the obstacles stacked against them such as backyard breeders and limited funding. ❤️

If you are considering adding a new member to your family, I STRONGLY ENCOURAGE you to adopt, not shop. It’s astounding how many wonderful pets end up in shelters through no fault of their own and get overlooked because of circumstances outside of their control. 🐾

Dog “trivia” Tuesday: did you know there are approximately 360 different recognized breeds of dog across the world? The chihuahua takes the cake as the smallest on average with Great Danes and Irish Wolfhounds leading the pack in terms of height. Several distinct breeds of mastiff take the lead in terms of weight!

Happy “work with me” Wednesday! We had to put some straw down to combat the mud recent weather has brought us… but Jax and Figgy were more than happy to help us break it in! 😊

We keep our number of dogs low so that we can give them the time they deserve.

Just having some fun in the pool!! Lovely Lady is new to LOL Dog Sitting and quickly fit right in.

We keep our inside spaces open so that it’s optimal for playtime! Sitka is a regular and will play with almost any other doggo that so ready to go.

When new friends get you going the full on zoomies! Sully and Zane were fast friends.
