Our reptile team just welcomed SIX eyelash pit viper hatchings for the first time since 2014! These tiny hatchlings may be small now, but they can grow up to about 2 feet in length.

Wondering how they got their name? Look closely, and you’ll spot the unique “eyelash” scales just above their eyes!

We’re thrilled to announce the hatching of FOUR adorable West Indian whistling ducklings – for the first time at the Dallas Zoo! These fluffballs hatched earlier in September and have been busy growing and thriving behind the scenes as they prepare to explore their habitat at the Flamingo Pond in ZooNorth.

West Indian whistling ducks are among the rarest ducks in the Americas, known for their unique calls that range from distinctive high-pitched shrills to clear, squeaky whistles. This successful hatching marks a significant milestone in our commitment to protecting this near-threatened species.

HEADS UP: It’s that time of year again! On November 1 and 2, parts of the Zoo will be closed as we gear up for our biggest event of the year, our annual Zoo To Do fundraiser.

Wilds of Africa and the Gregg Hudson Giants of the Savanna will be closed to guests on both days. You can still visit our penguins and all our animals over at ZooNorth for discounted admission! Admission will be just $9 on Friday, November 1, and $10 on Saturday, November 2. We apologize for the disruption, but it is quite a... "to do!"

When you see it... 👀

We’re excited to share that our Texas horned lizards have successfully made their way into the wild! 116 of our little lizards joined forces with others from the Fort Worth Zoo and Fossil Rim Wildlife Center totaling an incredible 285 lizards released into the Mason Mountain Wildlife Management Area. Some of the lizards were fitted with lightweight, flexible tags to help researchers and conservationists at Texas Parks & Wildlife monitor their journey for the next few weeks.

Our Texas horned lizard conservation program is a collaborative effort with the Texas Parks and Wildlife, Rolling Plains Quail Research Foundation, and several of our dedicated zoo partners.

HOOT HOOT! 👀 Have you spotted our adorable owlets yet? Our spectacled owl duo, Rio and Isla, welcomed two adorable chicks in August. The proud parents have done an amazing job raising their little ones, who have now officially spread their wings and fledged! With their soft white fluff and signature ‘spectacles,’ these charming owlets are hard to miss. Keep your eyes peeled for these fluffy cuties on your next visit to the Zoo!
