She's quite literally the ☹️ emoji, even though she's a happy and snuggly girl through and through! 🤭 Don't let the long face fool you -- Wren is primed and ready to be the best friend you could've ever wished for. ❤️

At one year old, Wren was discovered as a stray in Illinois, braving the cold all by herself. After being taken in, warmed up, and given a lot of TLC, she is now ready to spread her wings and fly to her forever home! With her cuddly, mushy, and affectionate personality, we have no doubt that she'll bring endless joy and snuggles to her future family. 🥹

Wren does like other dogs -- however, she likes to take the lead in play and would prefer a flexible doggy playmate that is ready for anything! 🐶 Wren also has a special love for kicking around her favorite tennis ball with her paws, especially in the snow. It’s her way of adding a little extra joy to those chilly winter days! 😆❄

With her gentle and doting demeanor, we believe that Wren would make a great companion for children, as well. ❤️ (We are unsure how she feels about cats at the moment -- as always, structured and slow introductions are encouraged.) She is housebroken, although changes in routine may cause her some confusion; once she settles in, she's eager to adapt to her new schedule!

Whether you're wanting to go on a brisk wintry walk or to cozy up on the couch by the crackling fire, Wren would be delighted to be your companion through it all. 🐾 Although she may look quite forlorn, her tail is always wagging and her paws are usually tippy-tapping to her next adventure. He's royally adorable and a dependable leader -- he's King Homie! 👑

At 2 years old, King Homie had a tough start to life, having been rescued from an abusive situation and then transferred here to us. Despite his unfair past, King Homie has been nothing but fair, affectionate, and kind during his time here with us. ❤️‍🩹

King Homie THRIVES around other dogs, and prefers to go to a home where he would have a doggy sibling to hang out with. 🐶 We are unsure how he feels about cats at this time, but we do know that King Homie would also do well with children -- though with his size and energy level, supervision is recommended for the smaller kiddos! ❤️ He can tend to be a little more shy and unsure of men at first (likely due to his previous living situation 😓), and may need a little more patience and love when meeting them.

King Homie has been lounging in the comforts of his foster castle (er, house) for the last few weeks, being the best boy for his foster family. He can't get enough of cuddles with his foster sibling, and we can't wait to see who his forever doggy sibling turns out to be! 🐾 King Homie is a reputable and polite royal, as he is completely housebroken and walks well on a leash. One of his favorite activities to do is play tug-of-war (he has yet to be defeated 👀), and he enjoys quality time with his stuffy toys -- but not so much as quality time with his humans. 🧸

Sweet little Lily is somehow still here with us, quietly awaiting her forever family. At nearly 3 years old, Lily is a shy but gentle girl who yearns to live with another cat or two, as her confidence is boosted by the presence of other felines. 😺

Lily came to us after being cared for by a good Samaritan when she was found with two of her sisters in their backyard. Ever since then, her sisters have been adopted, leaving Lily to wonder when it'll be her turn. ❤️‍🩹

Though Lily can be more quiet and timid at first, once she feels safe and loved, she's happy to blossom into the playful, inquisitive girl we have seen her be. 🥹 Having fellow cat siblings in the household will certainly help her feel more at home! (We are unsure how she would feel about dogs -- a quieter, low-energy dog would be recommended.)

Lily can usually be seen snoozing in her comfy cat towers in our Kitty Cottage, or watching the world go by from a high perch. 😺 She's eager to learn what her future home will be like, so stop on by during our open hours to meet her or submit an application today! 💌

Our sweet Sparky boy has been flourishing in his foster home during this snowy stretch! ❄️🥹

Being able to be in the routine of a home environment and outside of the stresses of shelter living has proven to be just what Sparky needed. He quickly opened right up and proved that he is housebroken, sleeps in his crate through the WHOLE night, and is irresistibly affectionate! 🙌 This 10-month-old pup knows how to strut his stuff, show off his smarts, and capture your heart. ❤️

Sparky is also eager to befriend any dog he meets, especially if they are closer to his size and love to play! 🐶 (Older dogs may not quite have as much enthusiasm as he does about life. 😆) At this point in time, we are unsure how he feels about cats -- he may just try to play with them, too! 🐾

This young student is eager to learn and please, as he is both food-motivated and toy-motivated! Snuggle time is always approved by him, too -- especially if it means dozing off on the couch. ❤️ As much as he loves to romp around, he enjoys unwinding just as much. 💤

❄️ SNOW DAY! ❄️

We have made the decision to close today, to keep the majority of our staff safe and off the roads.

Our animals will be well cared for, and we look forward to seeing adopters this weekend. We will be open Saturday and Sunday, noon-6pm.

🎶 "Hey there, Delilah, we know times can get hard, but just believe us, girl, one day you'll find your forever family, you'll have it good..." 🎶

At least, that's how 6-month-old Delilah sings the song in her head. 😉 With those precious puppy-dog eyes and the way she daintily crosses her paws whenever she lays down, we know that, indeed, her future family will definitely have it good with her. ❤️

Delilah has already been dealt a sad hand at her young age, having been dumped by her previous owner and not understanding why. We don't understand, either, for this little girl is full of nothing but love and longs for the soft, gentle touch of a human hand. She gets along with other pups, as well as cats -- though bigger dogs can make her a little nervous due to her tiny figure (only 24lbs!), so smaller dog siblings would likely make a better-suited fit. 🐶😺

Delilah has a gentle play style, and will honestly take snuggles over play any day. One of our favorite things to do is just cuddle up with her on her comfy bed -- she curls up against you and soaks in all the affection you give. 🥹 She's eager to please, and since she is still just a young pup, she's working hard on her potty training and making great strides.

Delilah is one of the purest souls you could meet, with a little bit of shyness and a whole lot of sweetness. She's been so patient in our Clubhouse watching her canine roommates go home with their own forever families, and we can't wait for the day when it's her turn. 🥹 Stop on by during our open hours or submit an adoption application for this sweetheart today! 💌

With a face as adorably happy as this one, who could ever resist? 😍

Meet Sandy, our lovable 1-year-old who is always ready to play and seize what life has to offer! She adores people and other dogs -- especially when they enjoy playtime as much as she does! 😆 At just 36lbs, Sandy is one of our more petite pups, but has a spirit that lights up any room. ☀️

Sandy came from a tough spot, having been found at an eviction site with scars all over her body. With medical attention and plenty of TLC, her skin has been doing wonders and Sandy has been nothing but the buoyant, zesty pup that everyone knows and loves. ❤️

This sweet girl is also housebroken, and is catching on quickly to leash-walking! She's always ready to go on a walk or on an adventure -- even if it just means a quick drive to Starbucks to get a pup cup (one of her favorite things). 🍦

Chiropractors everywhere love him and his questionable laying positions...meet Rocky! 😻

At about 3.5 years old, Rocky has officially claimed the "Cool Cat" status at our Kitty Cottage. This chill boy roams around and greets everyone he sees (or chooses the next weirdest spot to lay down and nap in 😹). He gets along amazingly with other cats and people of all ages, and wouldn't mind a multi-sibling household! ❤️

Rocky's affection knows no bounds -- he's just happy to love and be loved. While he's content to be zen and lay around, he also has a playful side to him that'll never say no to some toys. 🐾 With those handsome green eyes and incredibly boopable pink snoot, we know he'll soon charm his way into his future family's hearts (and offer plenty of meme-worthy photos in their phone galleries).

With the most adorable little snaggletooth and a recognizable blocky head, 3-year-old Chester is here to serve looks today! 🐶

Chester found his way to us after wandering into a Dollar General one day, hoping to buy a "forever home" (and possibly a treat). He was transferred to Five Acres to better his chances at finding just that! 🏠

So far, Chester has been thoroughly enjoying receiving all the love and attention that his puppy-dog eyes can muster. ❤️ Quality snuggle time is always a top priority on his to-do list, and there isn't a person who can resist Chester's cuddles. He's currently thriving in his foster home, taking frequent snuggle breaks on the couch and keeping his foster family in good company. 🐾

Chester is also mostly potty-trained, and catches on quickly to new routines! 🙌 While he hasn't minded meeting other dogs, he MUCH prefers his humans, and will choose people over dogs every time. (At this time, we are unsure what he thinks about felines!) He dreams of a home where he can love and be loved, and where his big heart (and head) is treasured, just as they should be. 🥹

Five Acres Animal Shelter will be open today, January 7th, from 1:00 - 4:00! This will allow us to place animals into their loving homes after being closed for a few days, while also giving our team plenty of time to take care of the animals and get home safely. Thank you for your understanding!

If you dropped off a pet for spay/neuter today, pick-up will occur as usual.

We'd like to introduce you to Shadow, a handsome and well-behaved boy who's looking to make his future forever family very happy! 🐾

At 4 years old, Shadow is here with us due to no fault of his own after his previous owner sadly passed away. Despite this abrupt lifestyle change, Shadow has shown off nothing but a loving heart and gentle spirit since his arrival. Shadow adores other dogs and children, and would make a fantastic playmate for any family. He is also housebroken, leash-trained, and crate-trained -- could he be any more perfect? 😍🙌

Shadow loves to run around and mutually chase other pups in our play yard during playtime, as well as take frequent breaks in between. If you have a dog who shares in Shadow's love for playing while also kicking back and relaxing as needed, then you've found a wonderful match! 🐶 (We are unsure how Shadow feels about cats -- given his personality, he would probably do fine with proper, structured introductions.)

Shadow also has this adorable quirk where he bounces and wiggles his butt whenever you give him back/booty scratches -- it's impossible to resist! 😂

There's only TEN tables left for our upcoming Tail Waggin' Trivia Night on January 25th! 😱🐾

Our theme this year is the '90s -- and trust us, you won't want to miss this! 👀 There will be dope table decorations and prizes for the flyest fits, so make sure to layer up on all the denim, use your poofiest scrunchies, and don your finest neon-colored attire. 😎 (The trivia will be general knowledge, so don't worry if you're not too beefed up in your '90s knowledge!)

Believe it or not, there's a whole day dedicated to cuddling...and today is it! ❤️ In our (completely unbiased) opinions, there's no better way to spend a snow day than cuddling up with your furbaby(ies), so talk about perfect timing. 🐾❄️

In honor of this special day, we're spotlighting several of our best cuddlers: Sage, Chester, King Homie, Molly, Ferb, and Misha! ❤️🐶 Each of these pups have the softest hearts and long for nothing more than a good snuggle session with you, whether in the morning, in the afternoon, in the evening, or anytime in between. 🥹 While most of these babies are enjoying cuddles in their foster homes, they can't wait to discover what cuddles with their own family in their forever home feels like!
