Tomorrow marks our first-ever Five Acres Day of Giving. As your local hometown shelter, weβre asking our community to pledge their support on this special day to help us save lives. Will you be a hero to pets and join us?
Recently, we welcomed our largest transport of dogs in the history of our organization.
For the past few months weβve been diligently coordinating a transport of animals from a high-euthanasia area in rural Oklahoma. After weeks of preparation, we anxiously awaited the arrival of our 21 new canine friends - 10 puppies and 11 adult dogs - each getting a second chance at Five Acres.
After the van arrived, one by one, we would gather a dog from their crate, bring them safely inside to get their weight, and place them in a new collar that would help us identify them. They were escorted to a kennel that had been set up with blankets, toys, fresh water, and a sign with their name.
Our veterinarian spent the next few hours thoroughly examining each dog, checking nose to tail. She gave vital vaccinations, made notes of further medical needs like bad teeth and ear mites, and made sure to get lots of snuggles and kisses in.
Over the following week we made sure each dog was spayed and neutered, including a corgi who was sadly used as a lifelong breeding dog. We performed an important dental surgery on one, removing many rotten teeth that were causing pain and infection.
And today, we are proud to report that nearly all of these 21 dogs have found forever homes in our community.
Five Acres is committed to welcoming in dogs and cats who are in most critical need, including pets from overcrowded shelters and high-euthanasia areas. Support from our community powers this important work - we cannot do it without friends like you.
Please join our Day of Giving and join our mission to ensure every pet that walks through our doors receives the medical care, shelter, love - and most importantly - the family they deserve.

POV: Tiki grants you the honor of giving you a smooch. π
This gentle and sweet-natured 3-year-old girl has been content to chill in her kitty condo ever since her arrival. She welcomes any and all attention, quietly rubbing her head against your hand once you extend it. π₯Ή With her gorgeous markings and soulful eyes, she makes any visitor feel at home. β€οΈ
Due to her more subdued disposition, Tiki would prefer to be an only cat in her future household, so that she may relax wherever and whenever she pleases. πΊ She's happy to observe you as you do stuff around the house, and she's equally happy to lounge by your side and do nothing. (She prides herself on being a low-maintenance girlie.) But once in a while, she won't say no to playtime. π
If you'd like to stop by and meet Tiki for yourself, come in this weekend during our open hours, or submit an application online! π

Our dogs aren't the only residents enjoying the snow! Julius Sneezer, our now longest-resident cat, has been THRIVING in the winter wonderland that his catio has transformed into. βοΈπΊ
We've never met a cat that loves the snow just as much as this guy does. At 2 years old, Julius Sneezer lives each day to the fullest, whether it's building snowmen or playing with toys in his water tub. βοΈ He hasn't let his FeLV+ diagnosis slow him down one bit!
Other than the snow, treats and affection are two of Mr. Sneezer's most favorite things. He's always so happy to greet anyone who comes to visit him in his condo -- and he's even happier when they have a snack in hand! π He also loves to play so much that sometimes he can play a little rough, so supervising small children around him is recommended! β€οΈ
Julius Sneezer has been waiting to discover his forever home for 9+ months, and with his adoption fee now sponsored, we hope that that will help him find his family! πΎ For now, he's busy dipping his paws into some fresh snow banks, so stop on by for a visit during our open hours or submit an application today! π

Enjoy a time lapse of a very tiny kitten named Rudolph who's trying to resist a visit to the land of the Sugar Plum Fairy...but sometimes little reindeer need their rest too! ππ¦π¬
In fact, Santa's whole sleigh team is nesting up in our Kitty Cottage, including Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Donner, and Blitzen! π
π¦ Each of these kittens are about two months old, and are eager to fly off into their forever homes in time for the holidays. β€οΈ
Our Kitten Room is close to getting full, so stop on by and meet our crew soon -- these kittens will make sure you're automatically on Santa's "nice" list once you take them home! ππ (After they're done napping, of course.)
π¦ You can view all of our available kittens on our website through this link, as well!: https://www.fiveacresanimalshelter.org/adoptable-pets-st-charles-mo/adopt-a-pet/kitty-cottage/
A couple weeks ago, we posted about one very sleepy kitty named Lily, who just wanted to sleep in rather than pose for the camera. π΄
Flash forward to now, and it's safe to say that Lily has been sleeping happily ever since then. πΉ Has she moved at all? Good question. But she's perfectly content, and that's what matters. π
Legend has it that Lily will only awaken from her slumber when her destined forever family peers in to see her. She'll stir, stretch her tiny little paws, let out a little mew, and be whisked off to her new home, the prophecy fulfilled at last. πΎ
At 2 years old, Lily would thrive in a home with other cats, as they boost her confidence and happiness. πΊ She also adores treats, and will snack on them while watching birds on the television. ππ¦ (One of the few things she will sacrifice her precious nap sessions for.)
Her quiet and soft-spoken demeanor will undoubtedly make her a wonderful addition to any home searching for another feline friend. Until then, she'll be dozing in her comfy cat bed, snoozing until it's her turn to meet her family -- will the legend of the sleeping Lily come true with you? π Stop on by and see for yourself today! π

Look whoβs feeling so much better! β€οΈβπ©ΉThe Count has been undergoing treatment for FIP for about a week now and is responding phenomenally well. He has a good appetite, is getting up and around in his kennel, and is enthusiastically seeking chin scratches from anyone who walks by.
Our team has been keeping a close eye on him and he done a great job with administering the treatment. He still has a long road ahead, but we are thrilled with the progress heβs made.
Thank you to everyone who donated to support treatment for this special kitty! Keep an eye out on our social media for weekly Friday updates on the Count π€
βΌοΈπ We are searching for fosters for nursing mommas and puppies! πβΌοΈ
(Please note: the sweet mama and her (12!!!) puppies in this video have already found a foster through Gateway Pet Guardians and are doing well! β€οΈ)
We have received an influx of transfer requests from fellow shelters in our community to help take in expecting/nursing moms and their litters of adorable puppies. However, it is IMPERATIVE that s have a foster lined up to take them immediately upon arrival, as a shelter is no place for newborns to grow and thrive (or for mothers to relax). As a result, we are reaching out to our community to ask for anyone who has the time, space, and love (experience is also helpful!) to submit a foster application -- this way, we will be able to have safe spaces lined up for when future requests arrive to take in nursing litters.
This type of foster scenario is normally about a 6-8 week commitment, until the puppies are weaned and vaccinated and ready to be adopted. πΎ ALL supplies and medical needs are provided for free by Five Acres. (Bonus: foster families get first dibs on adoption! π)

With our longest resident cat, Julie, leaving the building last week, it's time to get our next-longest term cat adopted - Maxi!
Maxi was brought to us nearly a year ago affter being seen frequently off the side of a highway. She was taken in by City of St. Charles Animal Control and eventually transferred to Five Acres. Since she was living a chaotic life outdoors for quite some time, Maxi was understandably slow to open up and wary of new people and situations. But during her time with us she has come tremendously far, and now is open to chin scratches, pets, and the occasional play session with a crinkle ball!
Maxi will do best in a calmer home with someone who will give her the time and space she needs to open up. Maxi has experience in a foster home and has done beautifully! We think she could co-exist with other animals who respect her space.
Maxi is six years old and about seven pounds. Come meet her in our Kitty Cottage today! Let's get this girl outta here!
βΌοΈ LOOK WHO'S GOING HOME TODAY! π₯ΉβΌοΈ
Julie, our longest-resident cat, is being carried out of our doors and into her own forever, loving home today! We are so beyond happy and excited for her and her new family. π₯°π
#HappyTails, Julie! We'll miss your meows to be petted and your curious gaze, but we know you're going to create beautiful (and often humorous) memories with your own people. π₯Ή It's time to celebrate! ππΎ
If you didn't have any weekend plans already...we may have just made them for you. π
We recently welcomed in some new litters of kittens, who are ready to go home starting TODAY -- and yes, they're included in our Name Your Own Fee adoption special that's going on this weekend! π Could it get any better than this?! π»
Make sure to stop on by our Kitty Cottage this weekend to meet them (and our other available kitties!) -- we're open from 12pm-6pm today and tomorrow! πΊ
