Just went to the park and found it closed due to the accident on I-94. Be advised!

The water has been shut off at the dog park in preparation for the next phase of improvements. Be advised to bgring water with you when you come.

I found a nice pair of Woman's Ray-Ban sunglasses on the ground this AM. I put them in the shed. so if you lost them, get 'em!

I just returned from a vacation to Petoskey and I'm happy to say that compared to several dog parks I visited along the way, ours is the tops! Thank you to the patrons that picked up after their dogs while I was away. Thanks to the Gunga-Dins that watered the areas that needed it. I ran into the Macomb Animal Control guy this afternoon and he's back in the area and watching the park again. He will write you up if your dog isn't leashed entering and leaving the dog park. It's about a $175.00 fine so consider yourself warned. Let's have a great summer.

The water has been turned on at the dog park.

Sunday a member came to the park carrying a baby. It is against the rules to do such a thing so please, refrain from doing so. This is for the safety of everyone at the dog park

Parks & Rec just informed me that on April 8th the dog park will be closed for maintenance work for most of the day. When work is completed, it will re-open. Keep your eye on the camera that day for updates.

03/31/2022

Just a reminder to everyone that today is the day when key fobs that haven't been renewed will expire. Mine didn't work today but I resolved it by calling Parks & Rec. from the dog park. You may want to make sure that yours is active before you go. You can call them at 445-5350.

I recently requested a tally as to how many members we have at the dog park. After adding in the new members from Saturday's class, we currently have 480 members. That's probably well over 500 dogs. FYI! Thanks to everyone for keeping their dogs in check and making every day an enjoyable experience for all the creatures who use the park.

I've got a few observations I'd like to share. It was reported to me that a member was observed eating in the park. That's a no-no, and it's in the bylaws that are signed by each member upon joining the park. Also on a more personal note, I go in every morning and pick up the dog p**p left behind by inattentive owners. Please watch your dogs and make an effort to clean up after them. If you observe a dog doing its business and it's not yours, seek out the owner and tell them. Some dogs like to eat it, others like to roll in it, and if it's there you'll eventually step in it. Rat's like it too, ergo the bait boxes along the fence. Lastly, the tools in the shed are donated for everyone's use at the park. Recently our shovel and rake have disappeared so donations would be appreciated to replace them, or the borrower could just bring them back. That is all, have fun!

Happy New Year! I hope that in your resolutions you all included watching your dogs at the park and cleaning up after them. I make it a daily routine to walk the park and scout for p**p, and I can tell you that I never have an empty shovel when I'm through. Some days are lighter than others, but on average, I usually find 6-8 piles. Think of them as rat-bait and it may inspire your efforts.

It was nice to see Angie Smith, Ginger and Elvis back at the dog park today. We sat in the small park and talked about her encounter with Winter and the aftermath. We both agreed that things could have been handled better and I assured her that we will address her concerns at our next board meeting.

09/04/2020

The latest incident at the dog park involving Ginger and Winter reminds us of the importance of getting information when the incident occurs and relaying it to Parks and Recreation. The easiest way to do that is to note the time of the incident. Each time a member scans a key fob it gets recorded at P & R and they can review it and see which dogs and owners were there at that time. We finally came up with a name and gave it to P & R and Winter's owner will be notified. Our main goal is and has always been keeping the dog park safe for everyone.

It was just brought to my attention that people are upset and not using the dog park due to the fact that members are interacting with dogs that don't belong to them. As hard as it is, could you please refrain from doing this. I know certain dogs won't let you do this (Mickey, Rumor, etc.) So it's up to us to control ourselves. Use the entire park and try to keep your distance. We'll get through this, keep the faith!

01/16/2020

Due to the resignation of a board member we currently have an opening on the dog park committee. If you're interested you can apply at city hall, SCS residents only please. We'd appreciate someone who is a current member of the dog park and someone who wants to keep our park safe for all members big and small. We meet @ 7 times a year beginning in April (1st Thursday of the month) and usually discuss upcoming planned events, problems that arise, and general things to improve the park. I'd like to say the pay is $100 per meeting but it's entirely voluntary! If you'd like to volunteer, please consider.

12/21/2019

Happiest of Holidays to all our members big and small! I'd like to remind everyone that key fobs expire New Year's Day so please take some time this week to renew your memberships. Same rules apply: proof of license, shot records and $ will be needed.

I received an email today from Tom at P&R about an incident at the park. I'd just like to remind everyone that keeping an eye on your dog is essential to keeping the park safe. Many situations can be foreseen and diverted if you're watching your dogs or if you're aware of your dog's behavior or tendencies. Let's all commit ourselves to making our park the best in the state by looking out for our best friends and the ones that we've made and adore at the park. We've got a board meeting next week and if you have any input you'd like to give me, please do!

I was informed today of an incident at the dog park on Saturday that involved a nasty exchange between patrons. I have to remind everyone that the rules of the park apply to everyone and we go by the rules to keep everyone safe. The small dog park area is for small dogs. We allow large dogs to use it but they must vacate the area at the request of small dog owners. It is the right of a small dog owner to deny a large dog from entering that area. I know that at times you may see both small and large dogs there but those times are by mutual agreement. Our primary goal is to make the dog park safe for our dogs. Please people let's try to be kind and civil to each other, and we apologize to those who bore the brunt of this latest encounter.

Everyone's going to ask so here we go. Pool Party 1.0 by the numbers: 55 paid patrons, 0 drownings. 60+ happy dogs, 0 complaints. 3 mishaps in the kiddie pool but that's a rumor (or was it Rumor)? All and all it was a splendid afternoon and everyone seemed to enjoy it. Please check Karen and Janet's page for some nice pictures of wet dogs. I'm extending our heartfelt thanks to the Parks and Recreation Department for allowing us the use of the pool and hopefully to possibly making this an added annual event. Their cooperation in providing a crew to watch over us was truly amazing!

To the gentleman who took Lori Seely's retracting dog leash from near the entrance this morning please return it to her.

06/27/2019

Thank you Susan for the updated welcome board at the gate. It's nice to have it in the 21st Century!

06/26/2019

Items found in the dog park are usually placed in the shed. Sometimes they will be pinned to the lost and found board. If you're missing anything please have a look. Currently there's a set of car keys with sets for 2 different cars!

06/17/2019

I've been notified by Parks & Rec. that Lulu is no longer allowed in the dog park until such a time that she completes and passes an obidience training course.

05/20/2019

This is just a reminder that if your dog is involved in an incident at the dog park you need to file an incident report at Parks and Rec. in order for us to review and take action on it. It's usually an emotional time but any information you have identifying the dog involved would help, even if it's only a description of the dog or the time the incident happened. We need to keep the park safe for all our little buddies.
