Today’s reminder: dogs don’t need perfect vision to live perfectly joyful lives. 💛

Our team had an awesome Lunch & Learn with Erin Marion ( ), who shared her amazing expertise in supporting deaf and blind dogs through connection, touch, and trust-based communication.

This handsome guy (you’d never guess he’s blind!) was the perfect example of how training is about teamwork, not eyesight. 🐾💫

🎉 Exciting things are happening at Good Dog Enrichment & Training!

Through our Shelter Partnership Program, we’re proud to collaborate with three amazing local shelters to help set both dogs and their humans up for success. ❤️

Over the past few months, we’ve hosted a series of workshops for adopters and shelter staff, including:
🐶 Bringing Home a New Dog
👋 Body Language & Greetings
🍖 Resource Guarding
…and next up we’re tackling Reactivity! 🔥

Our goal? To build confident, connected relationships that keep dogs happy, safe, and thriving in their forever homes. 🏡💛

📅 Stay tuned for upcoming workshop dates, and follow along to see how we’re making a difference, one dog at a time.

What’s for breakfast? Cooperative care.
It’s not just about the food — it’s about trust, choice, and gentle teamwork.
Morning routines can include more than kibble or coffee. Sometimes it’s time for meds, a quick health check, or brushing those teeth! With cooperative care, we turn these moments into calm, positive experiences — asking for participation instead of forcing cooperation.
A soft “ready?” before giving a pill. A gentle touch before checking an ear. A treat and a smile for every brave moment.
Because care should feel safe, kind, and full of love — whether you have gray hair or puppy fluff. 💙☕️🐶☀️

🌟 Celebrating Women Who Lead the Pack 🌟

Over the past few weeks, we’ve had the privilege of hosting three incredible Lunch & Learn sessions led by powerhouse women in the dog training world, right here in STL! 🐾

While dog training is still a male-dominated field, with women representing less than 30% of certified trainers nationwide, we’re proud to spotlight three amazing women making major waves in our community:
💫 Jody Epstein - The only Certified Applied Animal Behaviorist in the state of Missouri. Jody brings science-based training and compassionate understanding to every dog she works with.
💫 Allison McCausland - A trailblazer in the shelter world, Allison continues to revolutionize animal welfare with her forward-thinking approaches that improve outcomes for both dogs and humans.
💫 Crystal Wing - The Director of Evolution Working Dog Club, one of the only working dog clubs in the country using positive reinforcement methods to train high-performance working dogs, and proving that kindness and results go hand in paw.

We’re endlessly inspired by these women who are leading with empathy, science, and strength. 💪🐶

Here’s to lifting up voices that make the dog world (and our world) a better place. ❤️

🎓 Guinness has officially dropped out of Canine Good Citizen school!
He says he’s taking a gap year to focus on what really matters in life… snacks, naps, and barking at delivery trucks 😅

The good news? That means we’ve got one last minute opening in our CGC class starting tomorrow, Friday at 5:30 PM, running for six weeks!

The Canine Good Citizen program is all about helping your dog take those basic skills and polish them up. We’ll work on calm greetings, loose leash walking, polite manners around other dogs and people, and all the confidence building that comes with earning that official AKC CGC title 🏅

It’s also a BIG step towards determining if your pup could do therapy, service dog work and beyond!

It’s fun, supportive, and totally no pressure, just a great way to help your dog become the best version of themselves (and give you some serious bragging rights).

📅 Fridays at 5:30 PM for 6 weeks

🐾 Our Dog Training Betrayal List

“ I tried positive training but it didn’t work ”
👉 Usually means someone used a treat once while their dog was overwhelmed. Timing, environment, and emotions matter.

Ignoring how underlying pain or discomfort can drive behavior
👉 A sore back, ear infection, or gut issue can look like “ stubborn ” or “ aggressive. ” Always rule out pain first.

“ We are alpha ”
👉 Dominance theory belongs in the past. Leadership isn’t about control, it’s about trust.

Force free means permissive
👉 Nope. It means we teach with clarity and compassion instead of fear. Boundaries still exist, they’re just kind.

Obedience over understanding
👉 A dog who listens because they trust you will always outshine one who “ obeys ” out of fear.

“ He finally submitted ”
👉 A shut down dog isn’t calm, they’ve just stopped believing they have a choice.

Reactive dog you worked weeks with shows up next day in a prong because “ the other trainer said it works faster ”
👉 Fast doesn’t mean fair. Real change takes patience, not pressure.

When do we stop using treats
👉 When do you stop saying thank you? Reinforcement keeps relationships strong.

“ Don’t treat your dog like a baby ”
👉 Connection and care aren’t weakness. Meeting emotional needs builds confidence, not dependency.

Vets still recommending alpha rolls
👉 We can do better. Fear based handling isn’t medical advice, it’s outdated.

✨ Force free isn’t the easy way out, it’s the ethical one.
We train because we care how dogs feel, not just how they act.

Want to learn what force free training could look like for your dog? Set up a free phone consult with our team and let’s talk about how to help your dog feel safe, confident, and understood.

Our Philosophy

We are Wandermutts. We adventure and explore every inch of nature alongside our dogs. We do so by using products that don’t punish our dogs for doing what they were meant to do, but reward them for adventuring instead. This means being picky about products and explaining how to use them appropriately. We’re striving to be nature’s best friend and helping you adventure safely and successfully.
