William really doesn’t like people reaching for his collar, so I’ve been working with him on letting him choose to do a specific type of hand target that then signifies a collar grab is coming.
#cooperativecare
Matthew & William have been reacting to the neighbor’s antagonistic shepherd for months. They usually charge the fence and bark back and forth at each other. But today was different.
Today Matthew & William chose to play with their toys with me instead of fence fighting. I muted the video to save your ears, but the shepherd is barking up a storm at the fence line throughout this video - and these drivey herding boys chose to play anyway.
Dogs making great choices when they have the option to not to is one of my FAVORITE training victories!!
Proof that #PositiveReinforcement is more than just treats. 😉
Savvy was rocking her intro to stationing today! What a boss!

Working on “stand” and “back up” cues with a lovely group of pups today!
I love to teach “back up” to dogs that like to get a bit clingy when you’re moving around the house - everyone needs some extra breathing room now and then! It can also be helpful in close quarters, like if your dog sometimes ventures between furniture and the wall… and then gets stuck back there.
Just a little video of recently-adopted Nell & me figuring out how we can work together! She had substantial training when she was younger with her last mom, but we still have to dust off those old skills and become a team. 😊
Churro got his breakfast in a Kong Wobbler this morning - it took him about 15 minutes to roll all the kibble out of it, with lots of snuffling around the floor to find it all!
What’s your favorite enrichment feeding tool? (Store bought or DIY!)
Does your dog pay any attention to you around distractions? This is a new skill for Churro the cattle dog but he’s already getting better at it!
A key component to a solid “heel”: where is the dog’s attention?
