Finally, with the holidays over, I can reflect on the amazing morning (Sunday, December 20, 20) when Angel was rescued.
I could not have had a more ideal group than the eight people who attended, the 10-12 others who helped in various ways leading up to the 20th and to Pam Garthe who initially told me in October about this lone goose left at a lake.
She had been living at the location noted here on Angel’s page. She was unable to join her migrating flock due to developing an angel wing. For details on that-see comments.
The rescue itself only took 15 minutes but the period just before lasted about 30 min—and was so vital to successfully catching her. It took weeks to locate a home for her—and I spoke to persons in the complex network from California to Ohio to find SOMEwhere for her to live. Obtaining enough volunteers at the same time on the same day—OH so fortunate! And the weather was just perfect. The ice seen two days before was gone, and the neighbors were supportive— not bothered. All things were truly aligned!
Thanks to Megan McCarron and Tori Jean for bringing in Rachel and her parents for semi-professional help! Angie Wahlig-Hulshoff and husband Dave for saying yes and for bringing kayaks and to BillyandKathy Audrain for being there too—Billy helped find Angel who had left the area and was difficult to locate—Kathy also took the photos...PL Pardo welcomed Angel who is now settling in well.
Below are just a few photos from the rescue and afterward. One photo shows Angel with Wally the goat—one of Angel’s first friends.
Angel is a gentle, non-aggressive water bird (we are leaning towards a female) who would have been euthanized by the wildlife rescue center if we didn’t have a sanctuary in which to bring her.
Updates will follow on her progress....
