Oscar came into our lives on Christmas Eve 2020 after being at the shelter for a month. The Shelter Staff took amazing care of him before coming to us.
The purpose of this page is to highlight adopting shelter animals and showcasing those available.

The Liberty Animal Shelter had 24 adoptions in December and went into the new year with only a few animals left at the Shelter. THANK YOU to all of the December adopters who are providing new, loving homes for our sweet friends.
We had so many adoptions this month, we couldn't fit them all here -- two were even adopted before staff could take photos of them at all!

Planning a trip with your pet? Yesterday was National Pet Travel Safety Day and the Liberty Animal Shelter has a few tips and tricks to keeping your furry friend safe during stressful travel times.
Have a pet that doesn't travel well? You know your pet best! Boarding or pet sitting programs are good alternatives if your pet can't make the trip.

On Christmas Eve 2020, Mom and Dad took me home and I've had the bestest life! My friends would like this chance too!

The next feature of our "12 Days of Adoptions" series is Abbey! This sweet girl is a part of the half-price "Home for the Paw-lidays" adoption special and will have a half price adoption fee through Dec. 31.
For Christmas this year Abbey would like a new cat bed, some more cat nip and a puzzle feeder. But above all she would LOVE to find her forever home!

The Liberty Animal Shelter was recently recognized as a "No-Kill Shelter" for 2022 by Best Friends Animal Society, an animal welfare organization. The classification of "No-Kill Shelter" requires a 90% live release rate and the Liberty Animal Shelter has achieved this rate for several years.
An important thing to recognize is that as a municipal government facility, the Liberty Animal Shelter has to accept all animals surrendered by Liberty residents, where private open admission shelters can turn away new intakes for a variety of reasons. The Animal Control Division also works through the Municipal Court proceedings of bite cases, which sometimes results in court mandated euthanasias; and there are instances when aggressive animals are too dangerous to release for public safety and liability reasons.
We have a fantastic staff and group of volunteers who work to care for the animals at the Shelter and to find homes for as many as possible.

He's not quite ready for adoption yet, so for now he's getting all the snuggles from the Animal Shelter staff. Stay tuned for an update! We'll compile all the name suggestions and post the top few for you to cast a final vote to pick his name.
