Teaching the “place” command in dog training is an essential taught in all basic packages offered at HerdK9. The ability for your dog to have a place to go and stay creates a calm and safe environment for everyone in the household.

Uses for “place” include:
-a safe place for your dog to go when answering the door
-a place out of the way while cleaning and vacuuming
-a safe place when having new people come over
-a safe place when young children and older adults are around
-somewhere for your dog to go while you are cooking and/or eating dinner
-a place to good for decompression time when coming home from a walk/training session.

The key to the “place” command is consistency and is for the benefit of both you, yours guests, and your dog and keeping everyone safe!

Reach out today to schedule a free 30 minute consultation and find out how we can train you and your dog to add this into your daily routine!

The importance of a “place” or “climb” command is that when you have to work, your dogs know how to relax and behave. While Jynx, shows a great “place” command on top of the kennel she enjoys chewing on a bone and Tango prefers to lay in the kennel and enjoy a bone. Do you want your dogs to learn how to do this? Ask me how!

The reality behind holidays and fireworks are the number of people and dogs affected by them. The holidays are now over, the fireworks are on sale, and they are still going off. When working with dogs, there are processes in which you go by that help dogs work through the anxiety of them and even then, there are times that it is not a fixable behavior but rather finding a way to manage. Are they worth the risk? Here’s a picture of Jynx with extensive damage to her snout and teeth from attacking her kennel, which has been the only safe place for her during fireworks. Rubbing the majority of her snout raw, chipping two teeth. All of which while in an anxiety kennel where she is typically very comfortable. Please take into consideration of not just those pets being affected, but the wildlife, the property of others, and those suffering from ptsd when you go and buy those fireworks.
