I hope everyone is staying safe and warm during this winter storm! Things to remember for the cold weather:

⭐️use coats on short haired dogs
⭐️booties for extended period of time or in areas that use salt
⭐️use dog safe salt at your own home
⭐️wipe paws after being outside
⭐️Dry your pup off once they come inside
⭐️find indoor games to keep your pup busy
⭐️create a plan in case you lose power

Many dogs love the snow and enjoy their time out in it. Remember some toys become harder or break easier in the freezing temps and can be hard on a dogs teeth/gums. Monitor your dogs while outside and remember that some dogs thrive in this weather. Just because you see a pup out in the snow for an extended period of time, doesn’t mean they are being neglected, they might be more comfortable than inside in the heat!

And as always as the snow starts to melt and you need help with your dog training/dog boarding needs reach out to me to get started in your dog training journey!

Teaching the “place” command in dog training is an essential taught in all basic packages offered at HerdK9. The ability for your dog to have a place to go and stay creates a calm and safe environment for everyone in the household.

Uses for “place” include:
-a safe place for your dog to go when answering the door
-a place out of the way while cleaning and vacuuming
-a safe place when having new people come over
-a safe place when young children and older adults are around
-somewhere for your dog to go while you are cooking and/or eating dinner
-a place to good for decompression time when coming home from a walk/training session.

The key to the “place” command is consistency and is for the benefit of both you, yours guests, and your dog and keeping everyone safe!

Reach out today to schedule a free 30 minute consultation and find out how we can train you and your dog to add this into your daily routine!
