No one is feeling very picturesque in this nastiness so perfect time for another baby throwback. This time it’s Miss Cleo (Little Bee Prediction Lyk Cleo). Cleo is one of our Taco & Mila daughters and will be a first freshener this year, so I can’t wait to see if she keeps with the high expectations already set forth by her momma and big sister 💖

Legacy and Peach in their twinning era. They look so similar that from across the yard, I have a hard time telling them apart. Can you tell who is who? Definitely hoping that Peach's udder will be similar to Legacy's, her dam. Peach will start off our kidding season in less than 30 days and I'm so excited. We lost our power on Monday morning due to the storm and have no timeframe of when it may be restored. Our neighbors are generously letting us fill water buckets at their house, so we are getting by, but I cannot wait to get back to normal!!

“It’s a long game,” my sister keeps saying when I send the type of texts palpable with frustration. It’s not the first time she’s said this to me, not the first time I’ve said it to myself.

It’s not the first time for any type of waiting game, and I’ve played them all. Almost everyone who reaches middle age has crossed some bridges, and I turn 44 on Saturday.

So.

We waited out the process of leaving the city and building this farm. Waited out the process of starting a family. Then the process of building and opening the dairy. But this is the first time I’ve divided my heart, put half up for sale and pinned the other half to hopes far beyond my control.

Today I visited our recent projects; the event barn built 2 years ago, the cabins we opened over the past year for overnight guests and the pavilion we finished just months before Covid. So many spaces that have housed so many people and celebrations and joy and gatherings. It all feels like an echo while the future is suspended in uncertainty. Creating all that required energy for planning, and I’m fresh outta that, these days.

Normally I’d be planning spring things, but right now I don’t respond to wedding inquiries for 2024, don’t want to forge new partnerships and collabs for classes and events. Am sitting on my hands in general.

It’s an uncomfortable space with lots I wish could be shared. Maybe someday.

It takes a lot to manage both of our full-time jobs, run our antique business, as well as manage our herd.

There are days where we think about taking a day off: but everyday we choose to continue growing our business, moving forward and improving at our jobs, and building a better farm and herd. We love what we do - and when you love what you do, you don't need a vacation from your life.
