St. Louis Veterinary Center

St. Louis Veterinary Center Located in the heart of South City, St. Louis Veterinary Center provides for all of your pet’s needs. So, here we are!

Our Story

Dr. Philip started his journey that led him to his own clinic by helping with shelters in the area, both in the city and in the county, and working with the animal protective association of Missouri. He worked with many rescue groups and piloted his own spay/neuter project. While working with all these shelters, he noticed that there was not a veterinarian located on Grand, which was a busy area that many pet owners lived in. He opened at the very end of 1991/beginning of 1992.

Teamwork makes the dream work ✨
Here at STL Vet Center our goal is to make sure our patients are comfortable during examinations and treatments. For our patient Finn, he was most comfortable with this approach for his blood draw, all while enjoying lots of peanut butter! Every patient is different, and our team is equipped to assess how each patient prefers to be handled and make changes when necessary. We strive to ensure all our patients have a great experience at our clinic! ❤️

Happy “what is it?” Wednesday! 🩺
When a patient presents with symptoms of dehydration, a common treatment is to give subcutaneous fluids.💧They are also given on occasion to reduce fevers or to help with hydration in pets with chronic renal disease. SQ fluids are similar to human IV fluids, however we administer the fluids under our patients skin. We are able to do this since cats and dogs have a larger and more flexible subcutaneous space underneath their skin!
When patients are given SQ fluids, they may have a large “hump” on their back for 24-72 hours after receiving SQ fluids. This hump is normal, and occurs because the patients body takes time to absorb the fluids given. The hump may also migrate to the armpit or lower areas of some patients due to gravity, which is normal as well. Overall, SQ fluids are a quick and safe way to keep our patients hydrated! 🌊
